Hello Jonas. My take is that he compensates the weight/swingweight loss which occurs from decreasing the string gauge, in order to have the exact same strung racquet specs, when he both uses 130 and 135. In fact, a thicker poly string can add few points of swingweight, few grams, and slightly change the balance. That's why he said in a Spanish interview that he had to "change all his racquet back to normal" because they were customized for the 130/16G rpm and he finaly chose to play RG with his trusty 135/15LG rpm.

I wonder if the heavier AO spec would help him when it's humid at the french? Of course it would be more difficult for him to swing as well but he would get added power.

bumping up sw helps massively in handling heavy balls and also your strokes become a lot more better. I have tried set up with adding weight at the tip. You should increase SW as much as your body allows you to do it

But the racket you weighted and messured is an old racket from 06-07 not even close to the specs of today. His SW is around 360-363. Weight 342-343.

Interesting to know the tweak in specs by the "King of Clay" for RG so thanks for the post. I believe RG is the most difficult of all the slams to win so for Rafa to only lose 3 times in all the years he's played @ RG truly defines pure dominance & his record @ RG will never be close to being broken imo. Congrat's to the "King of Clay" on #14 @ RG as tennis could not ask for a better person for kids to look up to and model themselves after imo.
@eiseneuter2034

Why should RG be the most difficult?furthermore Rafas playing style is ideal for clay. It's the easiest for him to play.
@TrollMagic1987
@TrollMagic1987 2 жыл бұрын
@@eiseneuter2034 It is the most difficult slam to win. Many experts and pro tennis players have said it. The surface (clay) and the BO5 makes it really hard to win becuase of the stamina you need to finish points and the weird bounces it makes. If you compare the 4 slams, this is by far the most difficult one to win (not for Rafa, for anybody).
@vnishpt7036
@vnishpt7036 2 жыл бұрын
@@TrollMagic1987 Could not have said it better myself. Completely agree with your reply. The physicality needed to win on clay @ RG is unmatched by any of the other slams imo.

@vnishpt7036 2 жыл бұрын
@@eiseneuter2034 Yeah, go ahead & make it sound like it's somehow easy to win 14 slams on the clay @ RG. Whatever.... It's the physicality needed to be able to grind out points & win matches on the slow clay surface @ RG that's more difficult than the faster surfaces imo.
@eiseneuter2034
@eiseneuter2034 2 жыл бұрын
Ask the players please, the hardest grand slam is by far the Australian Open, or do you see players collapse at other grand slams? The temperatures are insane there. And once more, Nadal playing style is ideal for clay.

Funny how some on YT thought Rune might go all the way. My thought was that Ruud was much more likely. Nonetheless, Ruud had never played Rafa, and that’s not a good match for anyone. The F.O. this year was a bit of a downer for me. It wasn’t that I didn’t want Rafa to win, I wanted someone to beat him, isn’t that different? Felix and Sascha had the best efforts. I thought Novak was somehow trying to bluff the win, if so, it didn’t work. Like here we go, I’ll get in Roger’s head on grass, and Rafa’s on clay. Rafa is ferocious on clay, we knew that.

@tennnis498
@tennnis498 2 жыл бұрын
Not really. He has gotten older. Zverev, for example, could have an advantage. But yeah, the whole thing is strange when you consider how unique he is on clay at RG. But yeah, he went down in power for RG, and up for AO, makes sense. He puts so much work on the ball, it’s plenty on clay. He can make his opponents look silly trying to get the ball back! More power at AO makes sense too - wants faster ball speed on hard court.
@pro71
@pro71 2 жыл бұрын
@@tennnis498 what doesnt make sense to me is that he increases the swing weight at the same time as he goes down in string gauge. Why not just increase sw and keep same string? You could see in the ao final that he was was holding back some of his strokes especially on short balls which I’ve never seen him do before.
@tennnis498
@tennnis498 2 жыл бұрын
@@pro71 Good observation. I didn’t notice. I agree it’s like adding power and losing control, 2X. Perhaps he knew he would be getting tired yet really still needed to move the ball quickly. It’s amazing the insight that’s been shared. I think Wawri beat him there once, Nadal was injured badly yet kept playing. As tennis players, we look for magic to come from the racket - apparently even at the highest levels. In the past, it was Nadal that kept everything the same all the time. 55 lbs, 15g Blast, all conditions…
