If you have an Egyptian friend, you are in luck! they can guide you on the technique to make your accordion play quarter tones. If you are doing it yourself using a computer, try to get 50 cents(anything between 45 & 55 is excellent)!

Hi Mr. Nader, could you please tell which notes to change tuning? E,B, what other notes? thank you

Is it pre-configured with fixed quarters (C and B in this case)? Or it can be dynamically changed to support more Maqams (e.g. Bayati with quarter-tone on G)?

The tuning is accomplished by the application of (a small amount of) beeswax to the resonators to change their resonant frequencies. So a retuning is something that can be done in an afternoon, but not something that can be done dynamically between songs in a set.

In this video i see him play a Paolo Soprani, they are a company from Castelfidardo, Italy, and they make great Instruments. In Italy we play different styles depends on the region. This is the style in my region, but played with diationic organetto kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpLMnpt5j696l7s 🙂

You would need to get an accordion technician to do a custom tuning on it.

But HOW DID HE GET the 1/4 tomes?? He didn’t do anything… it just played different. Ohhhh it’s all Bellows Direction. Ah Ha.

Yes, there are two sets of reeds, one for bellows in and one for bellows out. Normally both sets of reeds are identical. In this case, one set is specially tuned by applying beeswax to make the tines resonate ever so much more slowly, dropping them a quarter tone.
