That’s exactly how you go pro today in a games currently. You have to get into the highest rank no questions asked. Then within the highest rank start building relationships with the pros be good enough that when they get online you’re one of the guy that’s invited into the lobby. It would be very very hard to start from scratch at 22. Most pros got established in their teens when they had all the free time in the world to hone their skills, and thats only half the battle, then you have to get a bit lucky to get noticed by top players. When you enter your 20s, real life kicks in, so I would say no unless you're on SSI.

Let's get real , there is one single common shared thing qhen it comes to most pros in all games , supportive parents , if you don't start early then you're usually screwed. I tried to go to tournaments in Halo 3 when I was 13 , I was really really good . Thought I'd try , I begged my dad to go to tournaments , and he told me I wasn't good enough and I should give up . He took away my console and forced me to play baseball. If you have shitty parents from the get go, you're screwed , it's a cruel world but it's the way it is.

I hear that. It's a weird time for gaming right now, moreso a couple years ago, because before Twitch and battle royale games gaming was a very niche thing. Now you have 18 year olds that own property in Miami for playing Fortnite and AI that can make 30 sec TikTok clips for you to get yourself out there. Before it was all about getting yourself in tourney's.

I think the takeaway from this is pretty spot on from Nade. Most competitive players you see were already well established in the scene in their 20s. Unfortunately for most people in their 20s you aren’t going to have the same free time and lack of responsibilities that you had when you were younger to throw hours and hours into the game. Nothing is impossible but definitely gotta be realistic about priorities and setting yourself up for long term future success

I just turned 22 and my passion is playing rust , the gym & stock trading. I got into stock trading when i was 19 and loved it so much ever since and i have had my ups and downs but i had a job that i really hated with a passion so i spent alooot of money trying to " get rich quick". I buckled up at 21, got a new job that after my apprenticeship i will be making a secured amount of money and doing something with valuable people. I am now starting to pick stocks back up after alot of reflecting and making sure my diet is right & consistent with my gym gains that i am pretty comfortable where i am at and i am in no rush to get out of my position. The key is to always have a main job & side passions that you can also turn into an income so you will be happy either way without feeling like you're missing out.

It’s possible, but only if you dedicate your life to it-and even then, the odds are slim. Like in professional sports, top-tier talent is extremely rare. On top of that, there are political factors and a lot of luck involved in being successful and winning tournaments. It’s smart to have a solid career path, but keep gaming as your main hobby and see where it takes you.

During the golden years of CSGO I wanted to go pro really bad so I would play for about 10 hours a day but the majority of that was aim training with bots or scrims on ESEA. Sure, I got to A+ on ESEA but it only made me realize that no matter how good you are, there's someone that's 10x better than you. I would queue with friends who were G and one who was S, I could barely get a kill in any match we played, I would just get dunked on repeatedly until I just either went to MM or scrimmed my rank. Unless you can devote a stupid amount of time to it, have the right mindset as well as strategy with clear goals to visualize progression, it's so fucking hard. Semi-pro, possibly, pro, .01% chance. Pick a realistic life path and just follow it. I understand hopes and dreams, but too many people want to go pro in video games or be popular on KZbin for the money which will never put you in the right mindset to succeed.

Upper 20s early 30s. Pro life is gone. He’s pretty spot on. If you truly love the game and wanna make money off it. Content creator is pretty much only route left. I’m 32. Hit irri in warzone rank. Have a 2kd. Going pro would never cross my mind I would get destroyed. Plus the amount of time I just don’t have with my job and I have way more time than the average 9-5 worker and make way more money. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible at 22 but he’s not wrong at that age you should have already layed the foundation for your life ie college or whatever. Just thinking going pro cause you played a while if you haven’t done any tournaments or wagers is kinda moot. My advice would b, work on a realistic goal, game on the side. Dabble in content creation if you really have a passion and see where it goes. Pro thing starting late and using most of your 20s to possibly fail isn’t really worth it from a probability stand point.

At 22 his career time is basically washed anyways unless he ascends to the pro ranks in 6 months to a year and then if he’s not playing on a minimum contract he’ll need to win tourneys to stay financially viable. Perhaps a really hot take here; but a LOT of kids have played games since they were 10. Over the past 10+ years, the gaming industry, streaming industry and esports scene has had a massive impact on pop culture. 4 years ago when the pandemic started, kids coming out of high school were locked in their homes watching twitch and stuff. That kid would have been 18 at the time. Gaming has become such a huge space during that downtime that it's hard to stand out compared to 2012 when there was UMG and game battles. Esports was just taking really taking off. Twitch and Tourneys might have been a big influence on these kids who had nothing else to do, but it's not a reliable career path to dedicate your time to. It's just naive and if you're 22~, just go to school. 6-7 years before you're 30 and considered 'old' in the gaming scene then are forced to retire or your game just dies is really not worth that commitment.

There are pros or people who have the potential to go pro at 30+ in a fuckton of esports, I don't think age is as huge as people make it out to be. It gets harder when you aren't establishing yourself in high school or college when you hypothetically have more free time, but it isn't impossible if your life is fortunate enough to be structured in such a way that you can begin the steps of prioritizing growth and networking. The toughest part about esports really is the networking thing. I'm sure there are dozens of goated players that didn't have the ability to do so because they just weren't in the right place at the right time.

Networking is a small part of it.. Local tournaments are held all the time all over the world for all sorts of games.. Number one is actually turning up and proving yourself.. Even then the chances of you actually being good enough to make a living out of pro gaming are next none.

You dont need to go pro. If you like a game just play and enjoy it. The odds of making an actual career out of gaming where you can live comfortably are so slim its not worth it unless you are still in your teen years with no responsibilities and plenty of spare time to try and make a name for yourself in that scene. And even then you should still be focusing on your education and future on the side.

The boom of e-sports is relatively new, so people think that age is just as relevant in e-sports as they are in physical sports. It's not. Reflexes slow 2-6ms per decade on average. That decrease is minimal; negligible, even. Just check the fighting game scene, as an example. Tokido, Daigo are in late 30's/early 40's, and still outplay pros in their early twenties. Some Counter Strike pros are in their early 30's, too. Whoever brings up "age" as a skill barrier for someone to become a pro gamer is mistaken.

It's a bit of a silly question to ask with no context or information other than "I'm 22 and been playing for x years..." Unless you're well on your way to becoming pro at 22, it's probably not gonna happen. Most pro gamers retire by 25 because your reaction time starts to diminish.
