Watch the interviews with Austin Butler. He studied hard. He had been on stage with Densel Washington in Iceman. Denzel actually called Baz Lurhman before Austin even sent a tape and told him this was the kid he wanted. Austin was nervous when Priscilla told him he had some really big shoes to fill. Then after she saw it she was so astounded that she told Baz that if Elvis had seen it he would have told Austin, "you are me".

If you are an Elvis fan, you'll love the film! If you're not an Elvis fan, you'll love the film! Austin Butler gave the performance of a lifetime, the two hours plus felt like ninety minutes. Fabulous stuff. A new star has been born.

the same with me, I entered this not an Elvis fan but left an Elvis fan. I'm obsessed with Elvis now and can't get him out of my head. the film was exhilarating and melancholic at the same time. i watched all the traditional elvis biopics and other musical biopics and I love how original this is. this film and amadeus are my favorite biopics and this elvis film is 1 of my favorite films of all time. and yes, a second viewing elevated this film even more. a truly theatre and cinematic experience!

This was my feelings exactly!!!! Your positivity!!!!! Your discussion was immense!!!! Iv loved ELVIS my whole life and seen it 6 times already…. I love to hear this discussion! It’s so powerful to have ELVIS shown as the real man he was! A beautiful human being but with an insane talent xxxxx Austin Butler for the Oscar!!! Tom hanks too…. He was sooooo good!!! (ELVIS didn’t drink alcohol… had to add that) He was a revolutionary entertainer and deserves his place in history!!!! Old ELVIS…. He was only 42! Worth remembering. He was so young.

I went to see this last night , I’m big elvis fan and I’ve read lots of books about him since I was a kid. I have to say this is the best film I’ve seen in a very long time , as you say the editing and direction is just staggering I absolutely loved it and I cried at the end when they put the original shot of him singing at the piano because you felt his pain it was so emotional. I want to see it again now.

Col Parker's treatment of Elvis reminded me of what they did to Judy Garland. She was 47 and he was 42 when they died. I have watched a lot of reviews and I like yours the best.
@actualkarenokboomer31582 жыл бұрын
Tom Hanks said there was not one scene that he didn't make Austin redo it many times. Austin said it would let him see things he didn't think he did well. The first scene they filmed was the 1968 comeback special and Tom Hanks said every time Austin did it he felt like he was going back in time. Tom said, at his age Elvis was a kind of bad movie start and finished. Austin said his mother died when he was 23 and Elvis' mother died when he was 23. He said he spent a lot of time with his grandmother who graduated high school in 1956 and was a huge Elvis fan. He said he had not seen much of Elvis, but he had heard him a lot from the early days. He watched every Elvis ever did or said.

The movie had SO MUCH ACCURACY. Baz did more research than any other movie or show dedicated to EP did. It successfully covers Elvis in the back of the blues and jazz clubs... He was RESPECTED on Beale Street, the birthplace of Rock n Roll and Sun Studios. And the gospel and blues legends all played there and hung out there. BB King. Big Mamma Thorton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Little Richard. The BIGGEST names in black music, and white and black stars in country and R&B and Rockabilty played there too. Thats why its considered the birthplace of Rock and Elvis CAME BEFORE Chuck Berry and Little Richard and they both LOVED ELVIS. Watch Sam Bell's interview with Baz. The earliest parts of the first half of the movie came from his account. Sam was one of Elvis' BEST FRIENDS and he was black. And sadly he died right after this interview.

No it didn't, loads of facts were wrong in the film , but still a great movie.
@depper2 жыл бұрын
@@HappyRareGrooveMan Most of it was true down to the locations and clothing swatches because Baz had access to the vast Graceland archives and spoke to people that were there, even his childhood friend Sam Bell. They told a brilliant story which today's generation can understand in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Every movie takes some artistic license -- you need to to tell a story especially one that condenses 42 years into a few hours ;)
@HappyRareGrooveMan2 жыл бұрын
Young Elvis no evidence anywhere he wore a flash , never met the Colonel on a ferris wheel , Kennedy wasn't shot during the comeback special, no evidence Elvis was a very close friend of BB King , the date in the film is wrong about the Lisa Marie plane , also the Hilton venue. A stunning visual movie but it wasnt aimed for the Elvis purists , yes it's great the film helps the younger generation have an insight to Elvis .
@johanley2292 жыл бұрын
@@HappyRareGrooveMan I think you're missing the artistic licence and referencing to the actual events it's a great movie time stamps out if sync we know Elvis loved comic heroes the reference wearing the lightning bolt , we know they didn't meet on a ferris wheel again a reference to Parker being a carni promoter etc etc I could go on

@@HappyRareGrooveMan actually it is very accurate on many things, the inaccuracies are minor and were there to compress the film and for artistic license

Do you realise Baz has 4 hours on cutting room floor. USA is so litigious EPE especially had Baz over a hurdle. I loved it. Shot on Gold Coast in Australia. Mark, Mahalia Jackson was the black Blues Gospel singer you were referring to. Years of black segregation was bought into the brilliant editing. 97-100 ...Oscar nominees goes to Cast & Crew 🌟

Everyone should watch the interview that Baz Lurhman did with a few of his childhood friends. Sam Bell explains that there were only 4 houses designated for white people in the Tupelo black community. He talks about Elvis going to the church and always participating, even to going on stage. He also said Elvis' mom wouldn't let him take the guitar outside and he used a broom for a guitar. He said Elvis kept his broom in their tree house. He said he absolutely thought Elvis' sound was what he grew up with and not something he hijacked. He said they only sang religious music and Elvis' favorite song was "I'll Fly Away". Just like a black child couldn't go to a white school, Elvis couldn't have been allowed to go to the black school by the Mississippi state. He was accused of teaching kids integration. I grew up in Houston, TX and white people could be arrested. An attorney was tarred and feathered in Houston in the 30s, not for representing black people, but for eating in black restaurants with them.

Comparing The Sex Pistols` impact with Elvis` is a farce. Furthermore, if I understood you correctly, you are criticizing the scenes with Elvis` love attachment to Priscilla. (If I misunderstood you, I apologize.) Elvis and Priscilla loved each other till the end. They both managed to provide a safe haven for Lisa Marie and I`m very glad that a little piece of this love was presented in this film.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE !! I am not a particular Elvis nor Baz fan, But you MUST see Austin’s portrayal; I have seen it Eight times, and the last movie I had gone to prior was, Little Women, Christmas 2019. Every time I see this extravaganza, I learn or see something new. Do see it in Dolby or IMAX to get the best sound. Austin sings throughout with Elvis only blended at certain moments in the later years, but Austin is never not singing, and h3 is really good for not having sung in public before. However, it is his dramatic acting skills that floored me.
