Compared to now it's one of the slower hot hatches. 2.0lt turbo are a lot more powerful these days and significantly lighter but most sound crap. Speed isnt everything, often sound is more impressive to onlookers and R32 cant be beat on that.

9mpg... wtf... I have had my Golf Mk 5 R32 since new in 2008. Its now done 93,000 one owner and I get 20mpg when driven in anger and almost 30 when you stick to the speed limits.. I'll agree it has a wonderful exhaust note. Even Clarkson said it was one of the best sounding cars ever made.. Something seriously wrong with your set-up though. When a prospective buyer is told he will only get 9mpg .. they might think twice...

That’s the best spec R32 I’ve seen 🔥 sounds nuts too. I’d keep it for a while and enjoy it because they won’t go down in value now anyway. Fuel bill will be a lot though 🤣 especially when tempted to always put your foot down and listen to that soundtrack

Deleting the cat, res, backbox on any car makes it ridiculously loud. I've got a 1.4 a3, 2.25in cat back, it doesn't go anywhere, but it screams 😂 And it doesn't drink fuel, have had 2 under 30 mpg fill ups within a year, and I drive like I stole it.

It’s a wicked car but the road tax and fuel is just too much to daily drive even though they are going up slightly in value you kind of lose the money gained in the £580 road tax per year! I think it’s a car that’s good to tick off your list and you’ve experienced it for 6 months so leaving it up for sale is the wiser decision because these older cars get expensive in the long run 👍🏼 and when you end up in something faster and cheaper to run you won’t look back 😂
