How to properly check transmission fluid on a NAG1 transmission. Will require a dipstick and OBD reader (I used a Veepeak dongle and Jscan app).

Interesting. I never knew about the fluid chart /correlation with temp and measurement. It makes a lot of sense. Sir I appreciate the video. It has added to the plethora of knowledge consumers can use. Be blessed!

Hi. The fluid fill chart in the video has been revised. Look for '3.0L Turbo Diesel (WH/XH) NAG1 Transmission Oil Fill Curve' (Revised).

Good call. Best to look it up yourself. Update: mine is still driving well using the chart in the video, so take that for what it's worth.

What was wrong with the red lock cap and dip stick like Chevy done?

Seems ridiculous not too have a transmission dip stick 🤷🏻♂️ Can I wipe off the oil stick and use that to check the transmission oil??? Just too make sure there is some in there? The engine light stays on so I just want to make sure!!

Some people have grabbed dipsticks from the wrecker out of a different vehicle. I think a full size van would work well because the tranny dipsticks are nice and long. You'd still need to add some level marks to it

@@trialspro Thank you for your reply, just to let you know I will be using a tranny dipstick from a 2019 Dodge Caravan. Like I stated in my first question it’s only to check and see if there is any tranny fluid in there, hoping to get even a small reading so I can further check it out with a mechanic. . Thanks again 👍🏼

@@trialspro The convenience of the ruler will help with that I would think.

Yes

Hi, you get that level readings without adding more fluid since the transmission fluid change video ? Or you add more fluid to get that level ? btw nice video and thanks for the info. Cheers from Chile

I didn't need to add any. The "no special tools" method got it within spec. Just need to measure what you drain out as accurately as possible. I only did this to double check it.

Did you ever get oem dipstick for your jeep?
@Sonny23443 жыл бұрын
No let me tell you what I used I had a very narrow 6 foot measuring metal tape and it fit into the transmission tube. I slowly slid the tape measure down the tube until it stopped at 3feet which is pretty normal for a regular dip stick to travel. The normal reading on a dip stick is between 1-1/2 to 2 inches that’s the safe spot. I slowly pulled it up and I got no reading at all. It made me nervous it was my granddaughters car so I took it to a mechanic and he put a special dip stick in about the same length, when he pulled it up he got no reading. Proving there was no transmission fluid in the tranny casing . Unbelievable!!! It wound up taking 4 to 5 quarts, yikes !!! my granddaughter was very lucky that the tranny didn’t seize up.

@@Sonny2344 That is very suspicious, as when an automatic transmission runs out of fluid, the transmission has no hydraulic pressure to engage. The car would not be drivable without any fluid.

W5A580 transmissions aren’t in the diesels ? W5j400 are . There’s a totally different chart for those
@trialspro3 ай бұрын
I believe the North American diesels got the w5a580s but obviously do your own research. Fwiw my jeep is still driving fine years after this and using that chart
