Shimabuku shinshi was a student of Chibana Chosin, later Higa Yuchoku, now Tokashiki Iken. He's 85 years old, and looking better than ever. Naihanchi is done with both open & closed hand on Okinawa. The bunkai are not exactly the same, but related. Variations on a theme. He's a wonderful karateka, and everyone I encounter on Okinawa speaks well of him. I have the privilege of training with him Sunday mornings, and treasure the opportunity. A wonderful representative of the birthplace of karate.

I can tell hes been at this forever. Hes completely put himself into the naifanchi kata. You see he knows where and when hes issuing force. This is very high level performance

This is the brightest representacion of the Naihanchi's katas. Movements and breathing. Is a beautiful and pure representation of Kata External + Kata Internal.

Judging from the fact that it appears to come from VHS I'd guess that the footage is more than 10 years old so he likely was not in his 80s when it was shot. The discussion here seems to focus on use of open hands but personally I'm am much more fascinated by the shimeru and breathing method. I hope to learn more about those aspects. I suspect there is some real depth there...

Actual Karate! So refreshing and invigorating to watch. Sadly, the public sees mostly Hollywood and Mcdojo demonstrations and doesn't seem to appreciate the difference.

This dude's body movement is next level for a karate practitioner. I haven't seen anything performed that retains so much of the chinese influence. I'm curious if that's his add from experience or continued from what he learned originally.

Compared to the Tekki Shotokan version I practiced this suddenly looks like a 'real' Kata with original intended flow, motion and form. Fantastic to see just how much the original versions have been cannibalised.
Lo conocí en un evento de nuestro estilo, Shorin Ryu, en 1996 en Naha, donde ejecutó este kata en continuado de la serie de los Nahianchi

I wonder if this version of the Naihanchi kata is the Choki Motobu's "Naihanchis katas as one" I've red about or an older form telling us something about the original chinese version
@andresvallelisboa55116 жыл бұрын
This must be the original because of its openhand techniques

Impressive performance, all tekki kata in One, a very high level Control, breath and movement in One. First time i see or ear about this kata, naihanchi Ju.
@areitomusic3 жыл бұрын
Naihanchi is the real name of the kata you practice in Shotokan called Tekki. The "ju" part means soft, as he is doing some open hand sequences. The word Naihanchi, some people say it means "stealth" or "clandestine". This idea leads to the movements being hidden due to coming from embusen moving sideways, almost like a crab walking.
@alexanderren1097 Жыл бұрын
You have the order reversed. The tekki kata were all created hundreds of years later and are all shorter simplified versions of this original kata which predates them

Actually, it is a good performance showing the muscle usage in Naifanchi kata. I would have compared yours with this version. Oh, you haven't anything posted on your channel so we cannot confirm your level of knowledge, only an opinion by an anonymous person.

These Naihanchi katas are strongly influenced by Goju ryu.

....Goju-ryu's representative kata is Sanchin, it has nothing to do with Naifanchi.
@andresvallelisboa55116 жыл бұрын
No they not. Goju ryu comes from Nahate. This kata is from Shurite and Tomarite

Shorin ryu way would be swift relaxed movement with emphasis on chinkuchi.
@samueldickenson20624 жыл бұрын
Any similarity would be due to the shared Chinese roots of both Naha-te and Shuri-te. These Kata have long been found in Shuri-Te and are considered to be very important (somewhat equivalent to Sanchin). While there is a lot of uncertainty around earlier Katas like this, to say it is "influenced" by Goju is certainly incorrect.
