Hey I watched the nail brush video you did and loved it! I did nails in the 90's for over 15 years and even then no one knew how to file by hand and that was before all the efiles hit the market!!! I happened to excel in filing and it's what kept my books full! Thanks for the video! You do a great video.

Ive been using a new file on each client for the last year and the state that I live now require to toss and not sanitize/disinfect ... it does make a nice improvement and clients do notice when you toss the stuff away in front of them ... loving these lessons tutorials that you are doing think it helps new techs and the old timers per say lol

I even appreciate the advice you gave about including the files into the cost of a service as a result of excellent qualities nails. Currently my customers have their own set of files (I don't share between clients) however I was still paranoid about whether I had cleaned them enough. Guilty of those notches and I can see now the correct position for sidewalls. I’d love to see how you file different shapes. The one I struggle with mostly is almond shape. the variability in the abrasion from nail files of the same grit is a notable consideration, and indeed a factor would be the brand or manufacturer. I regard the color of the nail file abrasive as a significant aspect of the implementation of a particular filing method. The color (e.g. white, black, gray/zebra) is actually a property of the abrasive material on the nail file, and thus an indication, typically, of the hardness and durability. I'm pleased about your weekly videos. I can credit you with engraining some concepts in me over the past years, from your channel and podcast. I now use my metal implement on the edges of new files, rather than a less durable, bulky cushion nail file. Thanks for the knowledge.

1. Grit : texture on filer or buffer 2. Disinctible : 3. Emery board Files : Thinner called emery board. Made of wood. One time use. Used to reach tight areas as they are thin. Spongy foarmy material. More flexible. Netween buffer and emery board. Moon file: same as spongy one. Better to do curve surfaces around cuticle areas. Diamond files : same amery board but thicker. Buffer : Block buffer and etc. 180 is standard grit number.

I do agree to use a new file for each service but why are clients so reluctant to pay the right value of a service? I tend to see that people do want gorgeous nails but they're not willing to pay the right price.. and files are not that cheap in the end..

Throwing away a nail file maybe costs $0.85/service so it shouldn't drastically effect your overall service price. I will be doing some pricing videos soon. :)
@shirleybridge7027
@shirleybridge7027 4 жыл бұрын
Your so right about reluctant clients . But once your clients dont question your pricing I find. Those are the clients that appreciate a good quality set of nails. Those gaggles are always looking for a bargain. Education in this field is not cheap nor is the passion we instill in our work . Stay positive. Our work speaks for our education and quality of service we give. ...Remember theres always room for improvement in nails hust as Liz shows us in everyone of her videos. Love her to peace.

My regular, and favorite manicurust of all time, (I moved to another state and had to stop going to her😔) had each client purchase a kit that was kept at the salon, with our names on the case, and in a locker. I Loved knowing that my nippers, files, etc hadn't been used on other clients, and were safe. She even disinfected them, and returned them to our cases, while we were still in the salon drying our nails. We just paid for replacements as needed. I think that all salons should implement this way of handling tools, if their clientele is that which would support the initial investment. Try that.

Dear Liz, I've just watched your videos on the basics of gel application. Thank you so much, I am new to the nail industry and with lockdown being the reality right now, attending a nail school is not an option. Your lesson was very specific and super informative! Would you have any interest in putting together a lesson about the basics and best practices for creating press on nails? With my limited knowledge, I can already imagine that there will be a few differences between gel application on real nails vs full cover tips. All the best!

Well, no wonder I've been cutting my side wall when filing my nails! I now know for my next new file. I also wondered why I was getting those notches on my natural nails, so now I know. This was a really helpful video! Files are more complicated than I ever imagined. You didn't cover what a Zebra file is though, and I see that mentioned a lot on nail supply websites. Just as a little FYI, the moon shape is widely called the harbour bridge shape in Australia (they have the same shape as Sydeny Harbour Bridge). I buy all my files from Aussie shops so I honestly didn't know it was called the moon shape.

You look so much like Jo from Grey's Anatomy. It's crazy. Thank you so much for the tutorials. I've been diy'ing my nails, but they are soft and flat, and I'm struggling with lifting. I never have to soak them off because they just pop off after a few days, sometimes less. I have watched so many videos that I think have maybe given bad info, and I love you're explaining why you should and shouldn't do certain things. I have also been using Sally products, and I'm thinking maybe it's not the best option for my nails. Interestingly enough, their prep is blue, also. It says it's just alcohol and blue coloring. Why would they do that? So I'm going to try some of your products you recommended.

When filing the natural nails, I’ve heard some conflicting information from KZbinrs that aren’t professionals. Do you need to file in a single direction or file toward the middle of the nail to prevent fraying? Also, what are the opinions on ceramic and glass files for natural nails?

Aslynn Wetzel: not all glass files are equal. Use etched crystal like Germanikure. They are a game changer. Most are sprayed with sand and extremely poor quality. Germanikure will last you for life if you don't drop them.
