Liz, I'm a regular nail polish fan and I like changing my nails twice a week, but I'm learning how to use gel for my mum who works retail/is big into gardening and needs a long lasting manicure. Your videos have been absolutely invaluable. Your level of detail and your explanation of why you're doing what you're doing is unparalleled. Thank you so much for these informative videos.

OMG I was struggling with what to do with the inhibition layer of my base coat, do I wipe it off, do I leave it on. I left it on and it caused a muddling effect with my color coat and you hit the nail right on the head. But when I wiped it off, it was dull and some what tacky because I didn't wipe if all the way off. Thank you thank you so much for covering that. I swear I learn so much from you.

I’ve learned so much from this video . I’ve been doing my own builder gel for a year (self-taught , planning on going to school for it ) and never knew that I should clean off the inhibition layer when I use different products . I literally do it in this order : sanitize the hands and nails with 90% alcohol , follow up with acetone on a paper towel and scrub the nails , primer , base coat , add whatever builder I want to use on top of the base coat , file and buff , then add color or just top coat . I’m going to start cleaning off the inhibition layer whenever I am mixing systems . I feel like that would just help everything adhere better . Thank you for making this video .

Great new series❣️❣️ I’ve been talking to lots of fellow techs who agree that the basics is a huge part of nail education that needs to be (re)addressed along with safe product use/application. Safety is at the top of my list. Over exposure has also become a big problem with more and more nail techs getting contact dermatitis from incorrect use of products. I try to learn something new ever time I take a class or watch KZbin videos. This series is very much needed. Can you add nail safety (wearing gloves/ over exposure etc) to your videos? I’ve seen hugely experienced/popular techs use their arms/fingers as pallets. As someone who now has an allergy, I learned the hard way to work safely. Great tips here. I’ll be watching all future videos. Thank you❣️

Your Gel Fundamentals series (I know it's two years old, but I just found it lol) is answering all the questions I've had as I ventured from gel polish to builder gel. I do my own nails at home and have been for about 1.5 years. I have everything, just like u have at the nail salon. I do the dip and fill with the dip, also. I have also used the poly gel. I love the gel/shellac polish because my nails look great and don't chip or come off. I started to do my own at home because they don't do them up to my standards/ preferences at the nail salon and it saves a lot of money. I have watched a lot of nail application videos, fill videos and just nail educational videos within this last week and I have learned a few techniques that I think that I can cut down on the time I spend doing my nails. Thanks!

I can't thank you enough for explaining this so thoroughly. I'm in tech school right now and they all neglect so much of this information. could you expand more on what situations non acid/acid primer or protein bond are used? and when youre using all these different kinds of bases, which ones do you layer? Like if you're using non acid primer, can you still apply a clear base coat as well? You are the sweetest, T H A N K Y O U!

Thank you so much for this video. At the 23 min mark you talk about mixing products and removing the tacky layer before applying a different brand of color; this has been an issue I have had with Gelish foundation and DND color and then Gelish top coat gel. The nails would peel and have a goopy layer in between. I thought I wasn’t curing the layers long enough. Now I know it is that the two different brands aren’t adhering to each other due to their chemical difference.

Hi I just wanted to thank you once again for all your education! I did my very first client (not family or friends) and kept in mind everything I learned in your videos and even did that shimmy you do with the base when applying and she had very short nails so I applied at the edge just as you showed on the video with the brush turned the opposite way! I was sooooo nervous and got even more nervous because I was taking a little but long and one of the polishes shrugged a little but I remembered what you said I Out just keep going and I was able to fix it in the second coat and top coat. Outcome was great! I messaged her and her gel was still on and looking great going on to to second week when I messaged her and she was happy! I can’t thank you enough for all these tips and videos that you post. BTW I’m looking for like a multipurpose gel that I can use as either base or top but can encapsulate with it and possibly add gems or something like that. Any recommendations?

Who would‘ve thought one could do a video of 32 min. with base coat only? I was surprised at first but I enjoyed every second of it!💖And you‘re totally right, this is a topic that’s mostly underrated. I still have one question though: I always thought the inhibition layer serves as adhesion for the next layer ? I understand the issue of mixing different products but if I wipe the inhibition layer off, don’t I definitely need to buff the base coat for the next layer to be able to adhere? I feel there’s still a lot of insecurities as far as for this wiping off aspect. Thanks so much for teaching us and you look very pretty with this hair do 💕
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 6 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. If you are working with fresh layers the gel will usually adhere even without a tacky layer. Obviously depends on the brand, but for the most part no you don't have to buff everything. Just make sure it's clean and dry. If it were top coat that is shiny and smooth I would say yes buff it, but base into color I have never had it peel with the brands I use.
@Natara
@Natara 6 жыл бұрын
The Nail Hub just a little confused here are you saying that wiping off the inhibition layer is key but the buffing is optional?
@sarahsknails6328
@sarahsknails6328 6 жыл бұрын
Natara neither nor. Wiping off the inhibition layer is not necessarily key at all, in fact if you wanna go on with a color of the same brand, then just leave it on. Liz just said that if you‘re using a different brand of base and then another brand of color (with leaving on the inhibition layer of the base) it may cause problems because the products have different chemical formulas and are not meant to work together. So if you wanna do so, just wipe off the tacky layer and there shouldn’t be any issues. Basically she is just trying to clarify and make out any steps of the service that could lead to liftings or other problems. I personally haven‘t had any issues with mixing though but that‘s only my experience. Hope that helped 😅

You can definitely use protein bond if/when needed, but I find a lot of nail techs overuse it. If you keep it simple it's usually much easier to get things to last. Plus 99% of your clients will be on the same process and then you can adapt and add other products for "problem" clients if needed.

You just clarified a couple of issues I was a bit confused about. Like I see a lot of KZbin nail techs apply dehydrator then primer then base coat and then go directly on top of it with color. Now I dunno if some may cut out the part where you cleanse the inhibition layer before the next product but I've seen many that literally show when the take the nail outta the lamp after base coat and without cleansing apply the next prosuct and It doesn't be same brand either. It has been a one of those confusing issues for me. Thank you so much Baby girl! I absolutely adore and appreciate you Almost forgot a question... When mixing your own cleanser, what's the acetone and alcohol ratio?

I kinda figured we wouldn't be able to learn this in school, in fact I have a feeling we only get the bare bones knowledge when it comes to application, they may want us to focus more on the health of clients and safety issues. I start in September.

The most sensible and easy to understand video here. Simple clear facts. No fuss and preening - just good information. Can I use this gel basecoat under acrylic nails?

Thank you so much for your informative video. I’m not professional but want to be able to give myself as good a gel manicure as possible. I feel like I’m able to follow and really learn a lot of things from you and also figure out where I’m going wrong. 😘

Your videos are truly wonderful! I love how every moment is informative. Funny thing though - I’m British by birth and I thought you were talking about “wedding” layers in one session … I’m like maybe brides just like a base coat layer on the day? Turns out it’s “wetting”. Silly me haha

Incredible video. I’m so glad you are taking the time to help us out! Honestly no one teaches these techniques when you first go into cosmetology. I have the kokoist base and builder gel. Do I apply it like you did the first nail? Do I need the kokoist color and top coat preferably to complete the service?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 6 жыл бұрын
Yes apply just like I showed. And it is best to stick with one system throughout the service, or you could cleanse and buff the builder gel layer and proceed with something else. As long as there's no tacky layer it should be fine.
