I had this once. But it happens to me because I am a undergraduated microbiologist and in one of my laboratory, the instructor did not gave us gloves to handle the samples and in one of them was the bacteria pseudomonas. My tumb got infected so I just cut the nail and rubbed with alcohol daily and it grew out. But I was so mad because it was their fault for not having the correct equipment for us to handle the samples.

I used to get the same thing from wearing press on nails!!! It uses to happen every once in a while when the part of the nail by the cuticle lifts off and water gets trapped underneath before the fake nail comes off. But I figured out that by putting a layer of top coat on your nail before applying the glue it prevents the green nail bacteria from forming. Game changer and simple to do with press on's!! ☺️ for gel nails like you said I think the best way to prevent that is to change nails every time you see the nail begin to grow out.

Just an FYI: the IBX is not a treatment for bacterial growth. It may help to repair the scratches and strengthen the nail as it grows out, but it does not treat bacterial infection like an antibiotic would. Once you removed the enhancements and expose the nail to air and let it dry out, the bacteria is already dead. The green stain remains and can be filed off or grown out, but its presence is not concerning and does not have to be removed or treated. Antibiotics would probably not be recommended by a doctor as it is not enough of a concern unless you are immunocompromised and/or it is a severe case.

I love your videos and the beautiful nails you create but as a fully trained tech myself and who also wishes to educate, I have to correct some things said in this video. It is not possible for nails to grow mold, mold is not a human pathogen and just simply can not grow on us. The problem with these nails is what we techs call a "greenie" which is a bacteria, the correct name is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as the bacteria grows, it's waste produces pigment which is the green colour we see, the bacteria itself is not visible to the naked eye. Yes, I know you did reference the "greenie" but sadly talking about mold etc, is only giving off false info to people which is obvious in the comment section. The "greenie" is nothing to be feared, it's just one of those things that happens and is easily treated. I do not mean any ill intent by what I have said, I just feel the correct info should be known.

No, this is a pseudomonas bacteria which only lives in a damp dark place, as soon as air hits it it's dead! We call this "Greenies" in the salon, all you need to do is cleanse the nail plate and rub alcohol on and let the green part of the nail grow!
@connie171717
@connie171717 4 жыл бұрын
@Andrilexia just a minor correction. Pseudomonas is actually an obligatory aerobe which means it needs oxygen in order to survive. So it doesn't get killed as air hits it. Fun but a little disgusting fact: pseudomonas was discovered because it caused a lot of troubles in hospitals. It likes to cling onto wet surfaces forming biofilms (colonies of different kinds of bacterias cooperating) and they were a pain in the butt to get rid of. So they covered all the surfaces with manure and let that sit for a week. The facultative anaerobes (bacterias that can live in environment with or without oxygen) in the manure practically "ate" all the oxygen so pseudomonas were left with none and died. 😀

Primer (and most nail product) is acidic enough to kill anything it touches. This is why you can use a bottle of polish on multiple clients with no concern of cross-contamination. The acetate and alcohol in most nail products is strong enough to kill most nail bacteria.

Use tea tree with coconut oil as a daily cuticle moisturizer, and don’t put on polish so the oil can penetrate. You won’t have to wait for it to grow out. The tincture will kill the spores overtime. Got foot fungus?, mix olive oil, tea tree, jojoba oil, and water and spray it in your shoes or socks until everything goes away. You shower at the gym? Lotion your feet with tea tree in coconut and Shea butter and you’ll never get athletes foot. But only use tea tree if you’re not allergic.

Nail bacteria and fungi is completely normal, even for people who don't do their nails! Most people will get some type of nail disease in their life at some point. No need to be scared of getting your nails done. Especially if you go in for your fills and removals regularly, there shouldn't be anywhere for bacteria to grow!

You can also get a fungus by going to a public pool, gym, etc. Everything in life carries some sort of risk. The important thing is knowing what the risk is, how big it is and then you can decide for yourself if you think it is worth taking this risk. I think the risk for this is minimal.

My nails have gotten much stronger after taking hair, skin and nail supplements. You should consider looking into those. They don’t have to be expensive. And you can also buy the main supplements separately (my lazy ass just bought one of those jelly supplements that have everything in one). It does take a few months before you start seeing results tho. But it really does work for my nails. My hair is also falling out a little less, but honestly I have not noticed much difference in my skin. So basically I am only taking them for my nails. Worth it.

Thank you!!! I have some sort of infection as well. I am a cosmetologist and I have never seen anything like this. I have consulted 2 MD’s and one dermatologist and they have no recommendations as my skin was also infected both appearing to be fungal based on what I read online. They said fungal infections are so rare that it wasn’t worth testing. 2 separate drs told me this including one I trusted explicitly. Dermatologist said hyper keratosis. It’s been a year and I still get tiny brown dots occurring on my hands and feet, what looks like athletes foot and similar skin on my hands as well as black fungi-looking micro fibers that are almost invisible to the naked eye. I’ve never needed glasses luckily and I can see them just fine but 50/50 consensus on whether or not I’m “just seeing dust trapped in the dry skin surrounding my nails [cuticles and nearby areas] or it’s related to my initially thin and seemingly still infected nails. They’re brittle, toenails are thick and separating from my nail beds. Anybody care to weigh in? I’ll try anything I’ll give any opinions a serious consideration at this point.

I injured a nail once and got an infection under the nail. After nail tech removing acrylic and cutting it back I used betadine to begin with kept it covered to protect the nail bed. As it gre out I kept getting a red spit half way down the nail. In the end I painted the nail with a 3 to 1 Apple Cider vinegar and water. I did this several times a day. It works. Both Betadine and the vinegar both have antibacterial and anti fungal properties. Leaving the nails unpainted etc. Yeah hard I know. I wear gloves as much as possible when in water. Doing vegies and so on. Use your hair dryer after a shower to dry underside of long nails. If your nails are a little sore after a new set or infill. Liquid betadine under and around the nail and cuticle overnight. If you see a bit of lifting I have a brush on nail glue that I stick it down with until I can get to the salon.
