Love your channel and what your doing Sir!! Could you tell me what does Nakamichi mean when they say N-power, versus peak?
@Memiselphi
@Memiselphi 3 күн бұрын
@@tonyhampton9170 nominal is the actual rating, that the subwoofer can take on a consistent basis, vs max power is just an inflated number that the speaker will not survive, if it saw that type of power. You may be able to give a 3 second burst of the (max) power to the subwoofer, and the sub supposed to be able to survive that small burst of power, but I wouldn’t trust their max power ratings. Most companies just put large numbers on their products as a marketing ploy to sale merchandise.

Careful bro. Those BHD watt meters don't read dynamic bursts property. You are actually pushing more than twice what it says on the kick. Those things only do well with test tones and long bass notes.

@@Memiselphi Yeah. HiFi Vector did a really great 5 way test video a couple weeks ago. Turns out the SMD tools are the only 2 that are fast enough to catch dynamic bursts. The others are great with test tones but they just aren't fast enough.
@SnubBarracuda
@SnubBarracuda 6 күн бұрын
At the extreme there is even a point where the non SMD meters are reading 14 watts while SMD meters show 600 watts during dynamic tests.
@AudioGuyBrian
@AudioGuyBrian 6 күн бұрын
Thanks for trying but man, you have totally wrong testing gear. Watch some videos on how to test woofers from the Car Audio side of things. They use single tone power amp dyno's that put exactly what you want for watts RMS into the speaker and can tell when it starts causing clipping at various exact frequencies like 20hz, 40hz, 80hz and 120hz. They are specialized tools and 100% accurate.
@Memiselphi
@Memiselphi 6 күн бұрын
I disagree. Im doing the tests exactly how (I) want to perform these tests. I’m not a dyno channel. I’m not trying to be like everyone else. Im trying to show what the average consumer can expect from these amps in a real world environment, not necessarily from a perfect environment of resistive loads, and test tone power. The majority of consumers listen to music, not test tones, so that’s my specific aim in my testing style. Thanks for the suggestion, but that’s not my aim.
@AudioGuyBrian
@AudioGuyBrian 5 күн бұрын
@@Memiselphi Ok, I can understand you not wanting to drop the kind of cash a speaker testing Dyno costs, but music alone is a horrible way to measure speaker specs. Especially when it comes to lower dynamic or higher dynamic range music types. Playing a compressed low DR song will give entirely different results than an un-compressed high dynamic range test source. And, Verifying their subs can withstand 600 Watts RMS and peaks of 3,600 is just impossible using music alone. 600 Watts from a dyno for 1 minute, and a short test of bass tone peaks for 20 or 60 milliseconds at 3,600 watts to represent peak handling in watts is the only way to go.
@Memiselphi
@Memiselphi 5 күн бұрын
@@AudioGuyBrian I didn’t aim to see if it takes 3600 watts peak. Did you watch the video? Majority of the real world uses music, not test tones. I literally said, I’m not a dyno channel and the primary people who would run subs would run them like me in this video, not a specialist, aimed at pushing the boundaries of the sub or finding the subs max power. That’s simply not what I’m doing here. The average consumer buys subs, buys an amp, have a shop install it, and hopes it last. It’s not that complex for the average person.
@AudioGuyBrian
@AudioGuyBrian 5 күн бұрын
@@Memiselphi Well, I have several large high-powered large commercial room systems with several 2,000 and 5,000 watt RMS power amps and many speakers connected to them, so I am looking for speaker drivers that can handle thousands of sustained watts of music without bottoming out or blowing which can damage my amps. So when Nakamichi sticks a LIE on their box saying their speaker supports 3,600 watts they better damn well support it or they will be paying for the amp repairs my gear will need because their B.S. caused damage to my system. Have a nice day.
