I love mezcal cocktails. One of my favorites plays a bit with the same ingredients. Its called candelarian i think from a bartender in berlin. 3cl mezcal, 2cl dutch (white) cacao, 2 cl aperol, 2,5 cl lemon juice and then topped with 1 cl soda water. Its kinda my go to drink in summer.

My husband and I spent some time in Oaxaca this summer touring Mezcal distilleries (small ones like family-owned and run in tiny villages) and tried several different kinds of Mezcal and even some Pechuga. We visited both some clay distilling and coper distilling and were able to get some bottles shipped home. We're making the Division Bell this evening! If you are ever interested in taking a trip to Oaxaca and want to visit small, unique paleques, I know an excellent tour guide! Also, I wonder what happens when you listen to the Division Bell while drinking the Division Bell...is that like watching Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon??🤔

So... I made the Division Bell with Campari (because I didn't have Aperol). OMG! I always thought a cocktail could have _either_ grapefruit for Campari, but in this one, the grapefruit _and_ Campari is DIVINE! And then the smokey evolution just builds on that foundation like a famous architect. Bravo, Anders.

I'm coming to this video a bit late and I haven't been a mezcal fan. My wife, who isn't a cocktail person, asked me what mezcal tastes like and I told her, "It tastes like a tire fire." So I wasn't sure. Brief digression: I've looked at plenty of other cocktail / bartender videos and yours is simply the best, at least for me. Your recipes just work. My very favorite drinks are the ones you've introduced to me. And I love your presentation. I don't know what I find more relaxing, sipping one of your cocktails or watching one of your videos. Anyway, long story long, now I'm enjoying mezcal. The Naked & Famous is my favorite of the two: The Chartreuse gives it a complexity... anyway, you get it. Thanks again for all the great cocktails, education, and entertainment!

Ha. What we do for a "smoky rose" (albeit we never quite officially named it that - but if we had...) is subbing a little applejack for mezcal in a jack rose. That's really good, too. Maybe 1:2 mezcal : applejack. Also a pretty pink

Love me a last word riff, particularly those made with rum. I'm definitely going to give this a go. Great video. I thought I made a cocktail myself once...turns out, negroni variations and last word variations have ALL been made before. I made a bianco negroni one night using luxardo bitter bianco, which had been on sale at total wine so I figured- "Why not give it a try?!"(excellent bitter liqueur btw, highly recommend to anyone reading this comment). As well as some London dry style gin(I used Dripping springs traditional, but I've used several since) and Martini and Rossi Bianco, which I love to drink on ice as an aperitivo, all in equal parts and garnished with an orange twist. Turns out, I was hardly the first person to do this. But I'll be damned if it isn't still one of my favorite cocktails to this day.

Hi Anders, your video arrived at the perfect time. I’ve been thinking about creating my own cocktail since you did the Final Ward and this video has inspired me to make my own riff on the Last Word. I call it the Last Nail a mash up of a Rusty Nail and a Last Word. It is equal parts, ¾ oz each, blended scotch (I used Isaly Mist 8 year), Drambuie, Luxardo Maraschino, and lemon juice. No garnish. I am curious to see if you or anyone in the comments has seen this riff or something similar. Also, if anyone tries it, I would be interested to hear what they think. I love your diagram explaining the connection of each of these drinks to the Last Word! (Could one include the Maximiliano Affair in this "family"? It seems to have a similar pedigree.) I came across this video while trying to decide which of them to make tonight... although I make my Naked and Famous with Strega since yellow Chartreuse is *impossible* to find right now. I think I'll be going with the Division Bell tonight, although a side-by-side flavor comparison would be a lot of fun - but not on a "school night." I am a big fan of Banhez mezcal, it has that sweet smokiness which I like. Side note: I used the Division Bell ratios for my own (?) riff on the Last Word, with Laird's straight apple brandy, Strega, Ramazzotti (I broke down and bought a bottle...), and lemon juice.

I'm obsessed with the Division Bell. I bought this mezcal out of curiosity. It hasn't been my flavor profile in the past, but I'm always looking to expand my horizons. I decided to try the Division Bell before the Naked & Famous because I didn't want to invest in Yellow Chartreuse all willy-nilly. (I guard my Green Chartreuse like a junkyard dog, only pulling it out to make The Last Words for people who will appreciate such a thing.) So, I made the The Division Bell, and it was an eye opener and an eye closer (I only have eyes for you, Division Bell!). My wife loves the Pegu Club, so I mix that for her. Then I make myself a Division Bell. They look remarkably similar in the glass, so to onlookers (our neighbor Dave), we look like we're on the same journey. But I have a delicious, smokey-sweet, complex and balanced elixir in my glass, and I'm grinning smugly like I've uncovered a secret. My wife has no interest in sharing in this secret, so more for me. I'm my own man, in this specific situation. Thanks for introducing this to me!

Hi Anders! I found your KZbin channel less than a year ago and I became an instant fan.. I've watched most of your videos, some of them several times, and you've been a great help while I take my firsts few steps into bartending, thanks for everything! You probably go thru a lot of messages, requests and suggestions, but hopefully this is a new one or a good one.. Last night I was working at the bar (in Vancouver, BC) and a customer asked if we had Malort, I instantly felt confused and ignorant, so I asked other bartenders only to get the same reaction from them. So I went back and apologized to the customer and he replied: "don't worry, it must be an American thing", which brought me to Google and eventually found out it's not only an American thing but a Chicago thing specifically. So all this story brings me to this question: How come you haven't done a video about Malort?

It's a "Bäsk" (Swedish word meaning "bitter" used to describe any bitter schnaps made with wormwood) The "Malört" in the name just means wormwood. So you can probably try with e.g. Absinthe if you can't get a Bäsk. (the letter "ä" is pronounced like the "e" in mezcal and "ö" is pronounced like the "i" in "bird")

My homebar lacks aperol and chartreuse, so I'm currently trying to kind of riff on these by using mezcal, campari, cherry heering and lime. Result is not bad actually, but I don't really have a point of reference and I'm still figuring out the ratio and how to get some herbs in there
@mistercarousel18722 жыл бұрын
Used an almost empty bottle of yellow chartreuse to decide by aroma which of my amari is most likely the best to split the campari with and landed on ramazotti, but now I think maybe the cherry heering is pointless and should be replaced with some syrup...
@mistercarousel18722 жыл бұрын
Okay, I'll have to stop now since I am getting a bit drunk lol, however, I think I might be on to something here: 30 ml of mezcal 15 ml of campari 7.5ml of ramazotti 7.5ml of passion fruit syrup 22.5ml of lime juice It's a weird mix and I'm sure the ratios need some improvement and will have to check side by side whether the syrup is really an improvement to the cherry heering, but I kinda like how you get hit with the fruity sweetness, then a bitterness with some herbs which then goes onto smoke that still retains the bitterness. It kind of has everything but the balance is still pretty off I feel like.
