Watching this good and fun HBG gameplay and feeling freshly upset about the weird push and pull regression guns keep going through since fifth gen started... Like, I'm so happy that Sunbreak brought back crouching fire for HBG, but there's genuinely no reason for it to have been gone for World/Iceborne/Rise Basegame in the first place. There's equally no reason for us to be losing it *again* in Wilds. Genuinely why does it feel like the World team hates the idea of the two bowgun types having more nuance to them than 'one is small and does less damage but walks faster, one is big and slow but hurts more'. LBG getting that dedicated Rapid Fire Mode is... okay, but I really really hope the way it's gonna work in the full game is 'different guns have different rapid fire compatibilities with different ammos' like it's goddamned supposed to be, and not 'this mechanic is for Normal 2 and nothing else :)'. I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but as far as I remember, fucking basegame World literally only had like two LBGs in the entire game that even had Rapid Fire as a mechanic on them, and both of them were just 3 shots of Rapid Normal 2, so who knows.

I think everyone agrees that World Bowguns were ‘confused’. Crouching Fire has always been about finding a large enough opening so you can shoot long enough to flinch the monster. I think the Wilds HBG offset attack echoes that function really well by requiring a really long wind up where you can’t move but a guaranteed flinch should you land it. It also uses meter and requires you to be in the special ammo mode. Infact a major differentiator between the two in Wilds is that HBG has both a Clash and an Offset Attack whereas LBG has neither. Also LBG rapid fire is now significantly different from HBG rapid fire as the firing speeds and therefore commitment is different. I think balancing and ammo variety is whats gonna end up making/breaking the bowguns in Wilds but I do think the new HBG tools are just as interesting as SBs version of crouching fire. Lastly we haven’t had Rapid Fire HBG since Tri and I always love when a design team revisits an old concept.

Oh, the deviation was SUPER obvious. I was thinking, why are they aiming at Teostra's wing, but the hits are going to the face? Uni-directional deviation is annoying at worst, bi-directional deviation is an exercise in self-torture for normal ammo.
