Just how (un)safe is AirDrop?

Researchers say they reported what they consider to be a privacy hole to Apple in 2019, but never heard back. They worked on a fix anyway.

very interesting... thanks for the explanation! Also is there any information on whether this is private? Can I airdrop say a screenshot from my phone to my macbook and be sure that the only data that is being exchanged is the screenshot and nothing else, because I suspect that data will be sent to apple and also don't trust that no metadata form my macbook gets revealed to my phone. I say this because I am much more privacy conscious and strict on my laptop and don't want to compromise anything. Thanks in advance!
