It would be good if you can do an interview involving parents of autistic children and adults from Kerala, including parents living overseas (maybe thru’ zoom platform) to increase awareness of general public. It would be good exchange of ideas and encouragement for parents of newly diagnosed kids.

@12:10 True! Our school had a deaf parent when my son was in high school. The school always made arrangements to accommodate that parent’s need. The sign language professional accompanied that parent to every class his son had signed up for. I never had that experience in elementary or middle school, and I was impressed when I noticed it for the first time.

Thank you Dhanya for bringing Vijayaraghavan sir to the show after the happiness project. Thank you for talking about hearing impairment , accessibility, autism and impairment in communication as this would definitely help to raise awareness. . Thank you Dhanya for probing about autism and this would definitely raise awareness and demolish the myths about autism. This would definitely reduce the challenges faced by professionals working with children and parents. I remember walking into a very famous hospital asking for rubella vaccination and was mocked by junior residents .This was early 2002. Yet, I insisted and got vaccinated after a lot of running around and begging at the pharmacy for medicine. Yes, Rubella vaccination is mandatory. Same for folic acid, it should be consumed as per the doctors advice and not at ones will

hey Dhanya..we need more personalities like this..celebrity interviews are everywhere in the social media. but such informative yet interesting videos are very rare. most of the time while we searching anything about disabilities and such things , videos are only done by the doctors in very polished and professional manner ,like a biology class. Such boring sessions are the major reasons people mostly unaware of it

Much appreciate the talk Dhanya.. However, just want to point out that there is a difference between highly autistic and high functioning autistic.. High functioning autistic are the ones who the guest is referring as missing the diagnosis because they have learned to mask their autism symptoms ..Highly autistic could be the ones who are not able function in the society independently…

My son has ASD and ADHD .He had infantile spasms as a baby and diagnosed with ASD at the age of 3. He called me 'Amma' for the first time at the age of 5.Now he talks non stop with his ADHD😂.He understands his needs. He is 14 now.I am proud to say he is doing really well. He has anxiety issues as well.Luckily we are living in a place where general public has a lot of awareness about Special needs. He attends main stream school but he doesn't have many friends. Hence local community SEN groups are very helpful to meet his social needs.I wish if our community could be more open to SEN children & accept them 'as how they are'. 'Normal' is just a term when it comes to people, every one has some sort of special needs. Some people can manage their needs because they are able some can't because they are less able.
