It's been a while and thanks for your immense patience. Maybe this video can almost celebrate 100 subscribers.
Anyways, I admit that I've tried to record this on a few weekends over the past few months but I just wasn't satisfied. In the end, I realized that this song encompasses all the struggle we encounter. Some tribulation tries us and we attempt to counter an undesired reality by toppling some part of the hindrance. Recording this cover was tough but it taught me to set realistic goals for myself.
About the arrangement:
There's no way to describe the raw power of the original song. It's epic enough on its own so all I did was extend the full version to make it more complete. Thus, I used this opportunity to compress the impact of a full rock-band concert into a solo piano piece.
Even though I've played Pianeet, Animenz, and Tehishter's songs before, this song is definitely in the top 10 hardest anisongs I've played since the difficulty is off-the-charts. I used a lot of jumping chords/octaves in both hands and included the fastest arpeggios. Not to mention the last 2 very unpianistic pages - which have pushed me to my current technical limit [then again, I don't have as much time to practice compared to pre-college years]. The other shenanigans considered with those technical difficulties, make this piece rewarding but cringe-worthy to play.
I've also included some dissonant harmonies to embody the internal conflict in Psycho-Pass. The "bridge" section of the arrangement is the eye of this hurricane and it's personally my favorite part of the song and the original.
My favorite technique to execute here was probably the left hand pseudo-glissando at 3:15. I notated it similar to how Prokofiev notated double note arpeggios in his 3rd piano concerto --- which some pianists approximate with glissandos.
Note: if you stuck it out to the end and looked carefully, you can see that my left thumb is injured, though not from piano.
For the next cover, I'm thinking something like Madoka.

+Theishter - Anime on Piano When I met you and Animenz for the first time at the Steinway Gallery nearly 2 years ago, never did I imagine that I would be making covers, much less having this much feedback. And I doubt things would be the same if hadn't discovered your sheets for Sword Art Online, Robotics;Notes, and Bakemonogatari. Therefore thank you, Ishter, for inspiring me to make covers.

Your audio sounds top notch, don't worry, it's been put to good use :) As for this arrangement, this is extraordinary! I love all the techniques and embellishments in it. It was really powerful, and I love that run at 3:15! The dissonance is really prominent in this performance. Keep up the great work!

This is absolutely phenomenal! I’m subscribed to most of the “big names” in anime piano (Animenz, Fonzi M, Theishter, etc.), but this cover stood out to me and is impressive beyond anything else I’ve seen on piano. I don’t know how I haven’t found your channel before, you’re amazing! (sorry for over-the-top praise, I’m a sucker for good music lol)

Thanks, and I mean all of us, including you the viewers/audience/our fans, are part of the future of anime piano! Without you, there'd be no sustainable community. And without my relatives, teachers, my friend MDZ, and both TheIshter and Animenz, I would not have developed the experience for piano and I would not have even known about this piano genre. So I'd like to thank them!

The use of leaps and the overwhelming number of notes beautifully recreate the tremendous mass of the orchestration of the original song on the piano... The quality is high and the atmosphere of that fascinating song is fully expressed, it's really great! Thank you very much!! @ChrisLuan
@ChrisLuan 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, so I'm 99% sure I have absolute pitch (or really really really good relative pitch). Immediately after hearing the start of a song, I can identify the key or tonality. When I was a kid, my teacher also tested this. My teacher played random chords in random registers while I blindfolded. Then, I'd have to go to the piano and replay the same chords/notes. Thanks! I try to keep things as interesting as possible. 4:02 is like the prayer to your personal god. It's the eye of the hurricane, the calm as the maelstrom surrounds you.

Damn man, that's some impressive piano playing right there. All these arpeggios, harmonies, dynamics and tempo control - everything is on point. If you become more consistent with you uploads (like at least 1 new video every month), I can see you reaching hundreds of thousands of subscribers in a matter of 2-3 years. I understand, that piano isn't your main activity right now, but I'll be looking forward to your next uploads anyway ^^ Good luck with your future endeavours!
@ChrisLuan
@ChrisLuan 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, recently I was thinking about how I could tone down the complexity of my arrangement style and/or do more sentimental songs. This way, I'd be able to be more consistent, like Ishter and Animenz since the #1 hindrance is the technical + mental difficulty. But I'm not sure how that'll work in the scope of academics and EC activities (volunteering etc.)... ...I say this because I recently arranged a relatively "slower" song but I had to spend a lot of time arranging with my piano and computer (I typically just arrange without a piano.) So either way, making a cover is a time consuming process, which is why I respect content creators who upload on a schedule. Thanks for sharing and empathizing. Good luck with yours too!

Where the hell have you been. Your change of tempo and arpeggio handling is fucking amazing. As good as some of the top mainstream anime pianists out there. This is some real skill and you deserve more subs. +1 from me :)

Actually, I've been quite sick with the flu / a respiratory infection so pretty much haven't practiced (and can't even record) in over a month. I originally had several covers planned before I move back into dorms in 2 weeks but now I'm not so sure I can pull them all off. Thanks for the "upvote", haha. I just want to showcase my diversity as an arranger and performer --- so this will be my "rock concert on a piano" cover for now, maybe until I cover something else at least as dynamic and powerful as this. =P

Comment décrire ce sentiment intense que vous me faites vivre en jouant ce morceau ...

Okay, without using a translator and with only my knowledge of French from high school (over 5 years ago since my last class)...I think this literally says "how do I describe this intense feeling that makes me live in playing this piece." I could be wrong for the literal and the actual meaning, but I'm glad that I'm able to inspire you and to instill such unquenchable passion !!! :3 EDIT: Please correct my French if I'm wrong! It's been a while, so I do apologize --- but I am eager to re-learn!!! French is such a beautiful language and I wish I had retained more of it from high school !

@ChrisLuan 8 жыл бұрын
Uh, was that supposed to be a suggestion for me or to fellow listeners who listen at max volume? Just out of curiosity, am I one of the few who listens to music at low volume? I personally dislike listening at med./high volumes, especially since the thumping bass and exhausting highs hurt my ears --- and this goes for using earphones (Shure SE215K) and headphones (ATH M50x). Though classical music is still a little more bearable than J-pop/etc. at volumes higher than "low."

Uh, I use Audio Technica M50x's. When I was looking for headphones several years back, I was told that either the 50x or 40x would be fine haha. For future reference, which headphones/monitors would you suggest? I probably need lessons on and more experience with audio mastering too. I only use compression and a limiter in Audacity currently.

Chris Luan (阮克理) The ath-m40x may fit your taste better as it is more neutral(m50x bass can cause you a headache sometimes). Also check out the ath-msr7 :) If you are serious about listening gear, you may want to check out for long periods of listening at home use, akg k712 (open back headphone)with a amp/DAC will be very comfortable and can separate instruments very well with high clarity. Amp/DAC is to decode music better and to amp the headphone better. Akg k712 cannot be used from phone properly. Recommend eBay to buy akg k712 ($250+) and amp/DAC(massdrop centrance dacport slim or schiit fulla 2 both $100+) :) instrumental separation will be superb on akg k712 with amp/DAC. ath-m40x is also a very good monitoring headphone if you don't want to spend so much money haha :) Your covers are really awesome, keep it up :)
