And there already was a Romanian version by the time of release. And it would probably be better. I've heard of a version of Wikipedia in a rare language by someone who doesn't speak it. It was terrible, but it influenced the actual language Although I have thought of doing something similar. It would be a short novel (probably in several parts) and it wouldn't be a translation. I'd also need a volunteer as an editor or a similar job. I've already written several very short texts in German this way. I searched for each word and grammatical construct I needed on the internet and hoped it was similar enough to English. Here's an example of something written this way: Und es gibt eine schon existiert rumänische Version Aber ich bin eingefallen, ich würde machen etwas ähnliches

The Chinese Lyrics are from 紅樓夢 (Dream of the Red Chamber), perhaps the greatest literary work in Chinese history. Specifically, it is the poem that is read when Daiyu, one of the characters, thinks that flowers when they fall from the tree are buried in the ground which is the cleanest way to do so. She writes this poem comparing the flowers to herself. This poem is very difficult to translate into English without losing their spirit but if you know Chinese you know how fucking fire these are. I'll try my best: 草木清明花清素,花素不與泥塵苟。 The grass and the wood, pure and bright; the flower clean and plain, not careless with the dirt and earth. 荷囊軟錦花容繡,艷骨清奇氣自留。 Little bags made of silk, soft and splendid, embroidered with gorgeous flowers; the flower keeps its virtue to itself, showing its beautiful bone and pure soul. ==== 如今正待爾死時,儂為捻土不忍棄。 Now, waiting for your death, you pinch the ground and refuse to give up. 待到儂身殞落日,葬儂何處人不知 。 Until the day that your body falls (to your death), where you are buried, no one knows. === 夢回昨宵閑庭外,庭外悲歌復又來。 I dream/think back to last night, in the empty yard, the songs of sorrow come again and again. 風刀霜劍摧花敗,紅落香消與鳥埋。 The knife of wind and the sword of sleet destroy the flower, the red flower's fall destroys its fragrance and buries it with the birds. *(someone help with what exactly this refers to) I tried my best! It's very literary and so well written. It’s written in Classical Chinese so translators can’t really handle it. I hope my English translation helps you understand but it certainly does not do it justice. But this is a poem by perhaps the greatest literary author in Chinese history so, of course it's good. There are so many layers to this and the ways it interacts with the other themes and characters in the story you can literally write a thesis on this (people have - it's very famous!) I may make mistakes my Classical Chinese isn't the best (though not awful either) and this is just very difficult regardless. Thanks to @曹希君 for helping out in the replies.

It’s really hard to translate Classical Chinese into English, and I think you did a great job! Maybe I can help with some references. 荷囊軟錦花容繡,艷骨清奇氣自留 can be: Little bags made of silk, soft and splendid, embroidered with gorgeous flowers; the flower keeps its virtue to itself, showing its beautiful bone and pure soul. 荷囊 is a kind of tiny bag to contain small things such as coins, usually made of silk, so I think this part is to describe a well decorated bag with a flower pattern on it, and the pattern remains the flower’s characteristics and moral symbol, which emphasizes how strong and virtuous the flower is. -- 待到儂身殞落日 can be: Until the day your body falling to death I think in the context, 待到 is closer to “until”, and 日 is closer to “day”. -- 夢回昨宵閑庭外,庭外悲歌復又來 can be: I dream back to last night, in an empty yard; the songs of sorrow from the outside comes over and over again. 閑庭refers to a yard that is clean or empty, with no people nor animals within (few sounds may be allowed in some case, like a drop of water or bird chirping), and usually used as a rhetoric to depict a world of silence, comfort or loneliness (in this case is loneliness). -- And in the last part, I think 紅 in 紅落香消與鳥埋 is referred to the color of the flower, representing the flower itself, so the last part is to picture a withered red flower buried with dead bird (or the author actually buried them). -- I can tell the difficulty after all my reference done. Hope they help :) BTW, your works are really impressive. If anything missed, it’s totally free to discuss.

fun fact: its easier to sing a new language than speak it. Cause its memorising a set text and pronunciation going along a melody instead of generating speech on its own. Same reason why many people loose accents when they start to sing. @XYZXiaoyuan Жыл бұрын
It's not like that. The poem that the lyrics are adapted from is only just under four hundred years old, and at that time, the pronunciation and grammar of the Chinese language were already quite similar to today's. If you read novels from that era, they are actually not difficult to understand. When Chinese people talk about "ancient pronunciation," they usually refer to the pronunciation from a thousand years ago. However, Chinese people have a habit of using ancient words when writing, such as the phrase "前功尽弃" (Waste all the previous efforts), which was created by a historian two thousand years ago but still frequently appears in modern Chinese. @chickenwingsyum

@@kiboma4209 The issue with the lyrics that he had in the song were not because of grammar. His lyrics were from a poem (as already mentioned in this comment thread) and even though it's still relatively modern, poetic and ancient Chinese is very idiomatic and a few words in Chinese can convey sentences of meaning in other languages, and still miss certain nuances and idiosyncrasies. There's some comments somewhere here where people have attempted to make a translation, to which you can likely understand why the translation was omitted in the video.

@lukeelliott2483 Жыл бұрын
It's the poetic musings of a girl on the nature of flowers and spring, as part of one of the great literary works of china 红楼梦. This sadly means that it has less to do with the original lyrics of Bad Apple, but is nonetheless still as understandable as say Macbeth's soliloquy. The version present here is modified to fit the "form" of Bad Apple, but nonetheless the lyrics tell the same story as the original (2:02): "flowers bloom with admired purity and fragrance, but who is there to mourn it's loss? It's unfitting for such beauty to suffer fate in muddy puddles, and the fallen petals (here metaphored as resplendent bones, treating them as the remains of flowers) yet retain their pleasant scent." In the original text, she's actually saddened to tears by this and resolves to fix this by giving the petals a proper burial, hence the name given to this set of lyrics, 葬花 (flower burial). At 4:15 she continues with a more depressive thought: "Today, I am here to place your body to rest. Who knows when my time will come? When it is my time to pass, who will be there to bury me?" To preface this, she was actually made fun of for trying to bury the petals, but she sees in her self sharing the fate of these petals, being a beautiful girl in upper society who is doomed to eventually lose her youth and beauty. Finally, at 4:29 we actually backtrack a bit in the source material, she remembers "last night in the courtyard, I heard a melancholic tune echoing". In the original text she wonders if this is the soul of either flowers or birds, noting that birds can't voice their worries and flowers must remain shyly blushed. She wishes to also gain wings and join the petals carried by wind and thus avoiding a tainted fate. Picking back up on the lyrics, (trad.) 風刀霜劍摧花敗 describes the methods which destroy flowers, being the blades of wind and swords of frost. In the original text, this is followed up with "should any tender flowers and delicate buds survive, nought but a strong gust leaves them nowhere to be found. Despite their admired beauty, does anyone wonder where the now missing petals have gone?" She does however envy the flowers: despite the death of today's flowers they shall reappear next spring, yet she does not know which faces will remain present in her noble house. Finally, 紅落香消與鳥埋 describes that as the flower's red (color) fades and its fragrance diminishes, it is buried with the birds. I've loosely interpreted this as both the passive and active aspects of life reunite once more in death, but this may also simply be an observation that what she is doing is no different than burying a bird. TL;DR yea you're right this is a paragraph fuck me (edit) I've found a version of the original poem turned to song in the 1987 film version of 红楼梦: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKS4imRjqaxgZ8k

For anyone wondering, these are the chinese lyrics: 1. At ~ 2:00 草木清明花清素 花素不與泥塵苟 荷囊軟錦花容繡 艷骨清奇氣自留 2. At ~ 4:15 如今正待爾死時 儂為捻土不忍棄 待到儂身殞落日 葬儂何處人不知 3. At ~ 4:30 夢回昨宵閑庭外 庭外悲歌復又來 風刀霜劍摧花敗 紅落香消與鳥埋 But they REALLY are on another plane of existence, you can try and plug it into some translator or even try translating it yourself with a dictionary but it's really not fully translatable, not by me anyway. No i dzięki Avl za to, że coś wrzuciłeś :)
@ryuthedokkebi Жыл бұрын
This is not Mandarin Chinese, this is actually Classical Chinese pronounced in Mandarin reading. This would be the difference between Italian and Latin (Ecclesiastical reading), and their big gap is the fact that Classical Chinese is perhaps one of the linguistically productive languages humanity has ever produced (highest amount of actual information being conveyed vs smallest amount of sound-meaning units) due to how the language came into being, and as this is in large part accomplished by assuming a large amount of prior knowledge of specific corpus of the language, it's incredibly difficult to translate into most other languages that cannot reference them at a linguistic level. This kind of phenomenon of confusing Mandarin Chinese with Classical Chinese (Mandarin readings) happens because Mandarin Chinese language speakers consider Classical Chinese as the most formal end of the Chinese language register-spectrum.
@taimunozhan Жыл бұрын
Nowadays Classical Chinese is read using the contemporary pronunciations in Mandarin (or some other modern Chinese language), which could be compared to the way Latin used to be read with the spelling-pronunciation of various European languages (including Italian, whose regional reading served as the basis of the Ecclesiastical pronunciation). I wonder what those lyrics would sound like in a reconstructed pronunciation (kind of like the Classical pronunciation for Latin, which reads CÍVIS as KEE-wiss rather than as CHEE-vees), although I'm afraid some rhymes might be broken there. In Middle Chinese (Tang dinasty, I think? I got this from Wiktionary) the first stanza would be tsʰɑuX muk tsʰieŋ miæŋ hua tsʰieŋ suoH hua suoH pɨut jɨʌX nei ɖiɪn kəuX ɦɑ nɑŋ ȵiuenX kiɪmX hua jɨoŋ sɨuH jiemH kuət tsʰieŋ gie kʰɨiH dziɪH lɨu
@WuHaoyu-Nolan Жыл бұрын
These lyrics are more like ancient poetry,which is characterized by end rhythm. This is another funny fact: we have to translate the Chinese poetry into modern Mandarin in our Yuwen classes(you can understand it as Chinese class),because we can't even fully understand this sort of literary form as native speakers. There is an old saying in China"only meaning can be conveyed,but not words." I think it can be used in a lot of languages,like "sisu" in Finnish, we can understand these words or sentences by learning related languages. (Sorry for my poor writing)
@eirinyagokoro2648 Жыл бұрын
Avlönskt say that he can't translate the Chinese because it is not what Chinese say today, these are in fact '文言文' (I just call them unnecessary complex poems of the past) and just to turn it into Morden Chinese is difficult enough(you literally HAVE to guess what the writer means), and border line impossible to directly translate it into English;and translate this to English via Morden Chinese is also not viable because the sentence got expend and (more or less) be too long to fit in the song.

Ilocano: Uray awan ti panaggarawko, agur-uray ti kababalinko, iti kada oras Isu a diak ammo no kasano ti lubong Saan nga agbaliw ti kababalinko Indonesia: Inikah mimpi, tidak ada yang nyata Sudah tidak berguna, kau tahu perasaanku Tapi ku sudah lelah terus merasa sedih Apakah lebih baik? Hej från Finland! You've now sang this song in all the languages that I speak. You really take care to learn the proper pronunciation as well, and while I can't truly confirm the accuracy of your Swedish, as I live in Finland and speak a different dialect, I appreciate you including Finland when showing where Swedish is spoken. You clearly love the very idea of language and speech, you wouldn't have made a conlang if you didn't. As a thanks, I can give some funny trivia about the differences between Finnish-Swedish (Finlandssvenska: Finland's Swedish) and Swedish (Rikssvenska: Kingdom's Swedish): "Att paja en hund" in Finnish-Swedish translates to "To pet a dog" but in Swedish it instead translates to "To break a dog" which has caused some understandable confusion. This is the example everyone uses when talking about the differences in the dialects, at least on the Finnish side.

YOUR GREEK PRONUNCIATION WAS AMAZING!!!! Greek is an impossible accent to achieve from a foreigner's perspective, coming from a greek myself. Great stuff!

As a native Swedish speaker you absolutely nailed the Swedish parts! You easily managed the pronunciation of different words and phonemes that usually take most Swedish learners a while to learn (while singing, no less)! Alldeles strålande!

I second this. Only slight discrepancies in annunciation give it away, but it’s already so much better than most.

He nailed both "u" and "sj", the hardest phonemes.

As a full-blooded Filipino who's a native speaker of Tagalog, this made me cry. It made me cry in the sense that even though there weren't many tagalog parts here, I can say that you nailed all pronunciations, down to the syllable. Bravo! 👏

I think the craziest part of this cover is how effortlessly he makes the different languages flow together

As a Chinese speaker, I feel the urge to explain the Chinese lyrics. First of all these lyrics have nothing to do with the original bad apple lyrics. They come from an adaptation that borrowed the melody, and none of the lyrics, of the original bad apple. In that adaptation, the lyrics were written in classical Chinese (i.e., the Chinese in classical literature), which is very different from vernacular Chinese. I'll try to translate them (just a heads-up, I'm not that good in classical Chinese so take my translation with a grain of salt. Also, thanks @sumi6815 for the timestamps) 2:03: Grasses and woods are clear and bright; while flowers are simple but elegant The elegant flower does not mingle together with mud and dust The soft and silky lotus buds foreshadow the beauty of the flower The bewitching character (of the flower??), while looking fresh and marvellous, keeps its own integrity 4:15: I am now waiting for your death You just won't give up because you still want to pinch dust into a string (????) Till the day of the demise of your body Nobody won't know where would you be buried 4:29: In my dream, I had a flashback of yesterday night, outside of the leisurely courtyards On the outside of the courtyards, the sorrowful songs make their return Winds, sabres, frosts and swords (symbolism for adversity) devastate the flower The red falls and the fragrance disappears (symbolism for the death of smth. or sb. beautiful) and buries with the bird Well, hopefully, I didn't confuse y'all further! 😛 And here's a Chinese cover of the actual lyrics: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3zIoZ6tebKXi5Y Edit: More context: in classical Chinese there's a lot of symbolism and metaphors, which is one of the reasons why it's so hard to understand. For instance, the lotus flower often symbolizes integrity, beauty and perseverance.

Como um Brasileiro, como esse cara pode cantar português tão perfeitamente?

Dude, you nailed the Vietnamese pronunciation. I'll be frank, it's not perfect, but it's entirely understandable. Pronunciation is what held back many Vietnamese foreign learners but you just handled it like a piece of cake.

It’s not a surprise to anyone that you can somehow sound like a native but I have to compliment you for this. Your Swedish is excellent. It is very hard to hide a foreign accent but you manage to do so. I tried to find anything out of place in your pronounciation but it was hard! Your Å’s do sound a little too close to A which is the only critique I’d give you. Overall. Well done! I was so excited when I got to hear you speak my language. 🇸🇪 Du förtjänar definitivt en prenumeration från mig nu!
