Departures is one of the ending songs I have never skipped while I was watching Guilty Crown because the voice of chelly from EGOIST and the heart warming mood of the song is a perfect way to close a series after each episode.
I also took a two month break before I started to arrange this song because I was in a musical slump for a long time and couldn't finish any arrangements I have been working on. But whenever I am listening to songs composed by ryo (supercell), my inspiration is slowly coming back again. I think I just have a special soft spot for his compositions.
This piano arrangement features some jazzy elements for the first time, because I have been recently improvising a lot with a friend, who is an active jazz pianist. But I still don't fully understand it yet, because Jazz is just so much different than the classical music I grew up with. I really admire pianists who can play both jazz and classical Music at the same time and it looks like I still have much to learn.
Departures also has an extended coda at the end, which is inspired by the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto no. 2. I also started practicing more Rachmaninoff piano pieces in my conservatory and I was fascinated by the exotic harmonies as well as his "endlessly" long melody lines in his compositions. The original "Departures" ended with a jazzy D13 chord but since I am too used to the structure of classical music, I tried to bring the song to a more "traditional" musical conclusion with a Emajor chord.
Last but not least: I have reached 900k subscribers!
Thank you so much for your support! Nine hundred thousand subscribers for a piano KZbin channel... it still feels like a dream to me. There are still so many pieces I want to arrange for the piano and I hope I can upload my next arrangements soon.
With that said, see you next time!

Read a Book DO IT!!! It's really fun, especially when the piece makes you feel a certain way other than annoyed (Bach invention 13). I'm not that good (I'm only a RCM level 5), but it's rewarding.

To anyone brave enough to decide to learn this piece, and happen not to have any teacher, here are my two cents advice so that you won't be eternally stuck. For Bar 30 to 36, or somewhere starting from 1:40 to 2:00, I highly recommend that you master the left hand part first before attempting to join both hands together. By 'master' I mean you can play it at full speed with the correct rhythm. For Bar 46, PLEASE, please, do not practice the sextuplets (6) by pressing each individual chords/notes inside slowly before gradually speeding up. You'll eventually hit a speed wall and find it impossible to play it at Animenz's speed. What I would recommend is that you practice them as triplets first, aka playing (F# A# F#) before moving to (F# A# E) rather than slowly pressing (F# A#) before (F#). Then, roll the chords. You'll find that it sounds pretty similar to how that sextuplets are being played at full speed. Now hold down (F# A#), release hold and immediately flick your wrist over to (F#). It should feel really similar to how you rolled the chords just now. There should also be minimal delay in between each steps. Flick your wrist back and hold down (F# A#) before flicking it back to (F#). Repeat once more and congrats, you just played one sextuplet! Now apply the same concept to the other sextuplets and you should be good to go. Otherwise, the rest of the piece is pretty straightforward. Good luck :)

It seems that your style has evolved once again with this transcription, the technique is much more subtle, and flows much better now compared to your old works. Same can be said for the musicality, it is much more lyrical, much more atmospheric, and simply much more emotional. The chord is also a breath of fresh air will Jazz improvisation throughout the transcription, making this a joy to listen to over and over again. TL;DR - This transcription is simply beautiful and imo one of the best transcriptions you've made in terms of lyrical flows and well placed technique. Great job Animenz, your arranging skill, which is already god-tier , is improving yet again with each new upload (It seems your music studies really help you ! :D) Can't wait for more~

OMG THIS IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL I'M SO GOING TO LEARN IT ASAP THANK YOUUU3 3 And welcome back, animenz!!! I was wondering where you've been but thankfully you're back again 8) With this song, I hope the 1M subscribers come sooner because this piece is srsly beautiful. Though the ending is different (as you said you improvised a little), it's still as sensational as the original which is superb? Amazing? Genius? Anyway, wish you luckS on your studies and remember that a lot of people still loves u

Mach weiter so! Vielleicht sieht man dich ja mal irgendwo in der Stadt beim Einkaufen. :D
