As another has said, the woman speaking Jive was the quintessential mother on a late 1950s, early 1960s show, "Leave it to Beaver." She was the prototypical mother in White America. So, to have her speak Jive was an absolute shock and completely hilarious. Also, she tells the story that the two black men wrote most of the script for the Jive part. Since she didn't know how to speak Jive, the three of them went out for lunch or dinner and spent the time getting to know each other and teaching her Jive. She has very fond memories of the two young men.

YES! I love the humour of this film, so many good one-liners. Fun Fact: The white haired actor Leslie Nielsen, actually wanted to be in a serious role but the directors found his deadpan voice so funny that they cast him in comedies and just told him to "Try to act as serious as possible"

It wasn't so much that Leslie Nielson wanted to be in serious roles. He WAS cast in serious roles and was known as a serious actor up until this point. That was part of what was funny to people. There's so many dated and underlying jokes in this movie that Millennials and younger audiences can't possibly appreciate because of the time gap. Even more so if you are watching from another country. One example is the older woman who "speaks jive" to the black guys is Barbara Billingsley. The audience in 1980 would all know that she played June Cleaver in the 1950's T.V. show "Leave It To Beaver". She was the epitome of the white, suburban, nuclear family house wife who wore a dress and pearls just to vacuum the house and clean the kitchen. The notion that she, of all people, can speak JIVE just made the scene that much more hilarious.

Most of the young Airplane reactors have no clue who Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is or that the dive bar scene is a direct Saturday Night Fever parody. Yes, a lot of the humor is topical to the time it was made. At least 50% of the jokes fly right over the Millennial's heads. Same could be said for Blazing Saddles too. Barbara Billingsley is a good example of someone playing a completely different, shock role. It was absolutely hilarious at the time the film was made. Same could be said for Lloyd Bridges and Robert Stack; both of whom were serious, long-careered actors.

Yes in German it is called "Die unglaubliche Reise in einem verrückten Flugzeug". The translators sometimes think they can spice up a "bad" movie. The 2 Jive talking guys in german translation, have a bavarian dialect, which is somehow funny. Comparable with a very dirty alabama dialect from US or ch'ti in France.
