It is the great tragedy of Debbie that she never realized that the Addams would've adored every one of her psychopathic tendencies. She earned her spot in their graveyard. She just did the one thing the Addams could never tolerate. Betrayal of family. The Addams genuinely love each other, and Debbie only loves herself. Her murderous tendencies aren't the problem, it's her selfishness.
@geeebuttersnap24332 жыл бұрын

Christina Ricci basically is responsible for how the character is now portrayed and remembered. The original was not nearly as cold and sarcastic. But everyone loves Ricci's version so much more that it has supplanted the original entirely. Impressive. Fun Fact - Pubert was the original name that Charles Addams wanted to name Pugsley when he was tasked to name the characters for the TV series. But in the 1960's it was too crude for television to have a child named that, so it was rejected by the producers and Pubert became Pugsley. So, to honor that late Charles Addams in Addams Family Values they name the new Addams baby Pubert.

Ricci's Wednesday (11-13 years old) is much older than Lisa Loring's Wednesday (6-8 years old) which allowed her to be colder and more sarcastic. It's not really a fair comparison. From what I understand, Ricci's Wednesday was more of a return to the original Wednesday from the comic strip. After Debbie 'meets' Thing she says, "I'm good with my hands." The first one may or may NOT be superior, but the over-the-top dramatic comedy of Raul Julia takes them both to a level no one else ever could. Gone far too soon, RIP Raul!

You couldn't call what Pubert did murder or manslaughter, he was simply saving his family from a killer. It was reasonable force.

I can’t believe they used a sharpie to draw a mustache on that little bean😂 I watched this movie for the first time with my Dad years ago, after the movie ended the craziest thing happened, our TV died and we had to buy a new one a few days later, our first flatscreen HDTV.

I saw this movie before seeing Fiddler on the Roof, so I was extremely surprised when Sunrise, Sunset played because I had thought that the organ song played during the wedding was an original song from Addams Family Values. I wish there was a full version of the song played on organ.

The ironic thing is that the Addams Family, particularly Morticia, were ready to accept and welcome Debbie. If she had just been straight up and honest from the get go, she'd have been living high on the hog!

35:24 - when the children playing the Chippewas burned the set down, and put the camp counsellors on the spit (😆), almost everyone in the cinema where I went to see this cheered and then laughed their faces off. A great childhood memory! And yes, therapists do cite Gomez and Morticia as an example of a healthy couple, for good reason!

😂 the Adams family's original concept is the opposite of the american sitcom family's so naturally the mother and father love eachother

Overthinking the Addams Family: If "normal" sibling rivalry includes actually trying to murder each other, what could Gomez have said or done that actually drove Fester away in the first movie?

Didn't he explain it was because he went after both Flora&Flauna even if he didn't love them(and they were presumably into Fester originally)?

I will always treasure this movie just for Wednesday roasting Gary's script: "Your work is puerile and under-dramatized. You lack any sense of structure, character, and the Aristotelian unities."

this is the last one in this canon with this cast . All the other Addams Family films both the older and Newer will show the characters with a different cast. there is a 70s movie and 2 2020 films and one more from the 90s with a new cast

If you want more (and in my opinion the best) Addams Family, I recommend looking for the 1960s TV-series "The Addams Family" - many of the jokes in the first movie, and the general concept, even their theme song, was derived from that series. There's also a cartoon series by the same name, which is worth checking out - since cartoons can get away with far more outrageous stunts and over-the-top craziness than you can do in live action, even with CGI.
@johnsensebe31532 жыл бұрын
The origin of the concept was actually a series of cartoons in the _New Yorker_ magazine created by Charles Addams. The characters in the cartoon didn't have names, so when it was adapted for television the studio worked with Addams to come up with names for them all. I think it's a testament to everyone involved in the films that the Addamses therein are markedly different from the TV versions, yet are still clearly the characters from Addams' original work.
