A lot of the information for this video came from the really interesting book "Rasputin: The Untold Story" and a lot of my butchered pronunciations were from the audiobook version. Go check it out! www.amazon.co.uk/Rasputin-Untold-Joseph-T-Fuhrmann/dp/1118172760 And that's not one of those affiliate links, I'm too lazy and computer illiterate to understand how to do that.

In Russian, the letter 'o' is very often pronounced 'a', especially when it's the first vowel of the word. So it's no surprise that Rosputin turned into Rasputin because that's very likely how it was always pronounced
@nonameuserua
@nonameuserua 11 ай бұрын
In central (western) dialect of russian yes, yet in Siberian old-believer one those letters were pronounced differently. The spelling must have been changed due to the official norm of writing the prefix ras/raz- with an A The name itself most likely derived from the word ‘rasputye’ (‘ras’ apart, ‘put’ way, ‘ye’ abstract suffix) parting of the ways. Can be a certain hamlet on a crossroad. But allegedly, his original name was Novykh (‘of the new ones’) and was changed due to the metaphorical meaning of ‘rasputye’ as debauchery

Setsuko Momoka The Soviets are a disgrace to Communism itself and if Marx seen what Lenin and Stalin had done he would look the other way because it was a scam,fraud,trick, Lenin and Stalin only used Communism for a way of power so they could feed their psychopathic minds by killing and killing did the fake Communism did not only did it have a total of 100 million deaths but most of it goes to citizens heck you are less likely to catch Smallpox and during the 1950s still Communism had killed more which is funny because you are shot more often than sick. Also how Lenin's Communist Belief is different than Marx's is because he added Fear and Isolation the two worst add-ons to a system that might work and what had it caused was hell Forever so if Lenin had followed Marx's ways Communism would have lived

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow Most people looked at him with terror and with fear But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear He could preach the bible like a preacher Full of ecstasy and fire But he also was the kind of teacher Women would desire Ra ra Rasputin Lover of the Russian queen There was a cat that really was gone Ra ra Rasputin Russia's greatest love machine It was a shame how he carried on He ruled the Russian land and never mind the czar But the cassock he danced really wunderbar In all affairs of state he was the man to please But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze For the queen he was no wheeler dealer Though she'd heard the things he'd done She believed he was a holy healer Who would heal her son Ra ra Rasputin Lover of the Russian queen There was a cat that really was gone Ra ra Rasputin Russia's greatest love machine It was a shame how he carried on But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger For power became known to more and more people The demands to do something about this outrageous Man became louder and louder This man's just got to go, declared his enemies But the ladies begged, don't you try to do it, please No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms Though he was a brute they just fell into his arms Then one night some men of higher standing Set a trap, they're not to blame Come to visit us they kept demanding And he really came Ra ra Rasputin Lover of the Russian queen They put some poison into his wine Ra ra Rasputin Russia's greatest love machine He drank it all and said, I feel fine Ra ra Rasputin Lover of the Russian queen They didn't quit, they wanted his head Ra ra Rasputin Russia's greatest love machine And so they shot him 'til he was dead Oh, those Russians

DiamondCreeper: I don't think it was a coincidence either...some say that it was his way of giving his post-mortem disapproval of Boney M.... but I disagree..... maybe he just wanted to snatch Bobby Farrell from the moral plane so as to allow him to perform 'Rasputin' in the afterlife .... perhaps in order to irritate Prince Yusupov??

Could you do a video like this about the Romanov Tsar dynasty? They were executed in 1918 after being exiled (as most of you know). But what some don't know is that a lot of the Romanov's extended family fled to Crimea. Are there any descendants of the Romanov alive today? Being a relative of the dynasty that ruled Russia for 300 years should be pretty cool.

In russian o's often are pronouced as a's. In some dialects more than in others. Similar to the great vowel change in English. So that explains the rosputin/rasputin thing.

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow Most people looked at him with terror and with fear But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear He could preach the bible like a preacher Full of ecstasy and fire But he also was the kind of teacher Women would desire

I can't find any source that says Rasputin went by Efimovich as Rasputin was considered a.. "burden" in the Russian Capital. I'm not sure I even heard the statement right, and Closed Captions didn't clear it up for me either, it says "a burden" but also I can hear "above him" and sometimes "a bourbon". Wikipedia states that Yefimovich is the name he takes in a Slavic tradition of incorporating your father's name as one of your names, called a patronymic. I have some sources claiming the name seems to be indicative of bad character, as it can mean "dissolute" and that's bad for some reason. I'd really like some clarification as this is a factoid I can't find at all and it seems that going by a patronym is for all intents and purposes consistent in the russian naming conventions of the time. Rasputin going by his family name for his notoriety seems rather unusual to me, as that's just one of his three names and is the one that applies to his whole family, but I guess it makes sense in the context of famous people (when I say Bush usually that means I'm talking about 'dubya', the former president of the U.S., Trump refers to the Don, "Drumpf", or a hearthstone player)

Unstressed 'o' in Russian is pronounced 'a'. This could account for the spelling mistake when his name was recorded outside of his home town.
