I liked the "is the USB class compliant" question, and I can already hear a Mark Tinley rant in my head regarding the answer: "it needs its own driver." But wait...."they're not at the moment, but who knows?"

Wow that mixer at first was like eh.....but now it's genius for Acid or French House live sets. Load up an impulse with a Linn drum and add your favorite 303 vst and OMG live sets just got exciting. I might get it when I get my tax money lol.
@kassie2k49 жыл бұрын
looks nice but I think it's really a shame that these parameter changes like the filter etc are not recorded, I think they should be recorded in the sequencer just like the Korg volcas can do, and maybe you could go in and do step based sudden jumps if you wanted to as well, and play the whole thing back, preferably also recording all of that stuff as midi data back on the pc into the daw as well so you could just play it out like a synthesizer but it's just doing the mixing and effects instead of generating sounds

Does using the AIRA USB host input still allow you to use the individual usb outs of the TR-8? For example, if I plug the TR-8 into the MX-1, will the computer still allow me to select the TR-8 as my audio interface (thus allowing the individual instrument channels) or will I then have to unplug the TR-8 from the MX-1 and plug it directly into the computer?
@TerminalMeltd0wn9 жыл бұрын
yeah i was gonna say the same but slightly different,obviously i use the tr-8 asio for my sequencer and use all the usb/audio outs for more control of timbre's of the tr-8.... but if this mx-1 becomes a universal asio for the aria range for audio over usb and still shows all the tr-8 audio/usb outputs and then routes the mx-1 usb channel as it's usb master mix then its a win..

Nice review.. Nick - I may have missed it but when you bring in an AIRA device via USB (like an MC101) do the channels split out on to separate mixer channels? Or do they just appear as a single stereo channel? Thanks!

@joebrewer45292 жыл бұрын
My question for the mixer is if you have four different hour link devices connected to those ports. Does the audio IO and midi IO work on each device where you can save have something meeting in through a device back into routed through the hourly for to whatever destination you want to make it? Same for the audio.
@REOvolt9 жыл бұрын
I think it's I great and original approach for live musicians, but i'm wondering about midi timing, since USB isn't the most stable solution. The other thing I'm wondering about is the latency when sending audio channels back and forth to your DAW mixing with analog channels. To my knowledge it will be impossible to get sub millisecond audio sync, unless there is some kind of latency compensation (as seen in DAW's).

Hi do you know if you can Midi Map the faders and mute button whist in Ableton Live mode? If the MX-1 is set to Ext > Ableton live mode but the track faders and their mute (disarm track) buttons do not correspond with my DAW. I have updated the MX-1 to v1.05 but the solo, sends, record, solo and play button only seems to work. thanks

:O ...wow... too complicated? ...hmm... i think, its more of a challange to keep the whole liveset under control... but, if u manage it, it must sound awesome :D my setup with this mixer would be: Tr-8 per usb TB-303 on input 1 (mono) TB-303 on input 2 (mono) waldorf Q on input 3/4 sampler on input 5/6 (Y-Cable need) Distortion on AUX Send/Return (chinchadapter need) ...but does make it sense not to use just a classic mixer for this setup?... hmm... the performancegain is quite nice i mean... for a livesetup.. ...thinking...

Oh yeah it's WELL easy to use. It's so sodding confusing. Had one a week, hardly does anything the guy says. It really doesn't intergrate with Ableton. The control surface setting selects channels, that's it!! One of the most complicated pieces I've owned.

I think this is great if you use laptop, samplers, and/or even more synths at once and on stage, but if you don't, is a waste of money. In my case, for example, I only need 5 channels, and basic reverb, so I'm happy with my little yamaha. Still, considering all the possibilities, this could be a nice tool for killer sets in the right hands.

a real shame is the lag of inputs, only 4 mono-jacks, one mini-stereo-jack, but therefor 4 usb-ports, but only usable for aira products... that it's also an audio interface tops it off a little bit, but that brings me to one clue, you can only get the amounts of channels full by using a computer or owning other Aira products, but you could never fill it with all the synths and grooveboxes you already have at home.... so what ? a 11 channel mixer with only 4 mono, 1 stereo input ? and that for 599 € ? well,... in my eyes useless.... (maybe as audio interface, but as mixer no)

Personally I have no interest in machines that re-hash sounds from the 80s & 90s. Electronic music culture prides itself on being stylistically forward thinking - it seems there's only a handful of non modular companies that cater for this such as Elektron. The Aira series seems to rely on pretty colours and lights, retro sounds we are all so familiar with (for me, totally bored with) and childish, glitchy, beat repeat/stutter effects for cheesey overcooked dance build ups. It seems like Roland are wasting their history and expertise by playing it too safe, leaving them stuck in the past - or at least catering for a demographic that is.

It's probably just a sign you're not the target consumer if you don't feel that way when you see it. I don't mean that as a jab, I completely respect all different styles and methodologies.
