'Belief' is different from 'faith'; the latter is believing without evidence. Anyone who professes a theory and expects others to accept has the onus of proving to the audience the rationale behind the theory. If one can't succeed in that one can't expect others to 'believe' them for the term 'belief' becomes meaningless; that's when faith crops up. People or old age is not necessarily the one to be respected; what instead is to be respected is the idea and the meaningful explanations. Old age is respected because usually old age and wisdom go hand in hand; however, it does not have to be necessarily the case. Asking for respect on counts other than merits is usually because there is no merit at all.
