This was a Grammy winning top 10 US Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1964. It was covered in 1975 by Kiki Dee. Nancy Wilson was one of the best loved jazz vocalists of the 60s and 70s who recorded on Capitol Records. She recorded over 60 albums before her death in 2018. Another big hit US Top 10 hit was Face it Girl, It's Over which was featured in a Tom Cruise movie. She was known for her sultry laid back style and recorded many excellent covers of contemporary hits as well as original material. Check out more clips on You Tube and check out some of her albums- she had such a unique distinctive singing style.

I knew one woman when I was a teenager that was a world class whistler! She was my best friend's mom and she used to put on a John Phillip Sousa record and whistle all the piccolo parts ... while vacuuming! She turned the music loud enough to be heard over the vacuum, then she'd start the vacuum and started whistling along and her whistle soared over the music and the vacuum! Since I can't whistle to save my life, I was duly impressed. My friend just shrugged her shoulders and said, "That? My mom always does that when she vacuums."

Nancy Sue Wilson (February 20, 1937 - December 13, 2018) was an American singer whose career spanned over five decades, from the mid-1950s until her retirement in the early 2010s. She was especially notable for her single "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" and her version of the standard "Guess Who I Saw Today". Wilson recorded more than 70 albums and won three Grammy Awards for her work. During her performing career, Wilson was labeled a singer of blues, jazz, R&B, pop, and soul; a "consummate actress"; and "the complete entertainer". The title she preferred, however, was "song stylist".[1] She received many nicknames including "Sweet Nancy", "The Baby", "Fancy Miss Nancy" and "The Girl With the Honey-Coated Voice".[2]

Nancy Wilson was an unknown talent to me when this song was receiving airplay. Listening to her inventive tempo , the stop and start again style and the distinctive jerkiness of her phrasing is the mark of a expert singer. Her background was in Jazz singing, and you can hear that in her bouncy playfulness on this recording. This was a Stand-Out performance!

This is when song stylists studied their craft. Raw talent needs to be honed and formed. Not just makeup, hair and dancers. Smoke and mirrors. She was one of the few last to start singing in nightclubs and on the shoulders of other greats, Sarah, carmine and Dinah. You had to prove you belonged and could hang. Nancy was able to hold her own. These girls today need to do their homework. Many are smoke and mirrors and we are at fault for not demanding more. We are being sold short and they are being cheated.

The bassist’s fingers look like Ron Carter. As a bassist, I always look at the hands, which are as distinctive as a person’s face. Individual sound is also distinctive, but this song does not feature the bass stretching out. I’ m not able to discern the cat by that criteria. Maybe someone else knows, for certain.
