I’m a 67 year old woman and love music. My collection goes back to the 40’s. From 78s, 33s, 45s and CDs. I love beautiful music and there is so much. The young people today are just starting to discover it. I grew up Henry Mancini, Montovani, Percy Faith and singers to numerous to mention. I hope that you will take the time to discover this beautiful world, even if you don’t do any reaction videos. Remember music videos didn’t become popular till the 60s.Bless you

The better part of Nancy's repertoire is considered jazz, though she considered herself a song stylist. This song won a Grammy for Best R&B Recording, Female in 1965.

I was 14 years old and saw her perform live in a small venue. I'd won a twist contest and the prize was a night out at a local nightclub for Teen Night. I fell in love with her, jazz and jazz vocalists there and then. It really impacted my life. I get chills no matter how often I hear her sing this. I'm 77 now. Also she was so beautiful and looked like angel on the stage. 🎶♥️ Thank you for loving her too.

OhMyGod! Charlie, you are the first reactor who I've seen play this Nancy Wilson. I say "this" because lots of reactors play the Nancy Wilson from "Heart". My mum loved Nancy Wilson, so I grew up in the 60s and 70s listening to her. She did so much amazing music. Her phrasing is amazing and the things she does with her voice...just Brilliant! My very favorite song of hers is "Miss Otis Regrets."

I had the amazing opportunity to see Nancy Wilson in a small intimate club in Boston, Mass in the late 1990's. It is one of the top 3 musical experiences that changed my world forever. The whole room was awed by her incredible talent. When she sings a song, you almost never want to hear anyone else sing it again. She can put her stamp on a song that most singers will never be able to do.

Fantastic talent. She was all over the various TV variety shows in the 1960's when I was too young to appreciate her. Many of those performances are on YT. The original, released, version of this song was done in a faster, more heavily orchestrated and produced form than this performance. I really love that recording, as well as this performance. Ms. Wilson would change it up, depending on the venue. And, it reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hard to watch her without crying, ever. Saw her multiple times. One time I was in the front row of a small club and had to cover my face for the whole set because I was balling my eyes out - truth and beauty personified. Got to meet her and there was actually a possibility for me to produce her next record. I told her that she touched the deepest most sacred part of my sole and gave me a hug... can you believe that? My date who was with me couldn't believe that happened either. Sarah, Ella, Carmen and Nancy in that order.

My most favorite song of all the songs in all the world is Someone To Watch Over Me (written by brothers, George & Ira Gershwin in 1926 - arguably the most prolific songwriting team of the first half of the 20th century) and my most favorite version of that beautiful song is sung by Nancy on that album. Back when love songs sounded like an intimate dance in the kitchen at 2 am...so good. One thing that really fascinates me about older LIVE performances too is they didn't have a mic in their face. I've not researched how they would accomplish LIVE TV performances in the 60s. I'm interested to know though.

A top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964, it failed to chart in the UK where it was covered by Kiki Dee. Kiki covered it for a 2nd time in 1974 giving it a rock treatment. Thisversion was a UK Top 40 hit for Kiki. Nancy had one more Billboard Hot 100 crossover hit in 1969 with Face it Girl It's Over. She was an exceptional vocal stylist who would cut 3 or 4 albums a year for Capitol throughout the 60s and continued to record right up until her death a couple of years ago. She has an impressive back catalogue. There are lots of clips of her performing live available on YT.

So glad you've gotten to NW and exposed your audience to her. She's always been on my favorites list. (Oddly, this is one of my least favorite songs of hers, though this performance is IMHO a cut above the version I'm most familiar with.) Aside from her flawless voice, she was probably the most in-tune with the lyrics of a song of all the singers of her genre. Every song was like a story for her. You were SO right to say that the best way to great singing is to CHOOSE A GREAT SONG, then "lock into it." and "Take people somewhere by going there yourself." There are so many awful songs out there today that even great singers like Nancy and Dinah and Ella and Sarah (We can talk about the men another time.) couldn't make great despite their superhuman abilities. So today's singers (of all levels of talent), and their handlers, try to use glitz, and noise, and sexy costumes, and wild gyrations, and backup singers, and smoke and lighting effects, and especially, LOUD music and voices, to stir up excitement as a substitute for good music. To me, one woman standing onstage alone (Nancy often performed concerts with the musicians in the background or in the pit), putting her heart and soul into a fine song, is way more exciting than all that other stuff.

I respect your opinion but I wholeheartedly disagree. Some of the best musicians to have ever lived are alive right now. You just won't find them listening to the radio. In fact, the mainstream is about the smallest percentage of all today's artists imaginable

Isn’t this incredible!? However they do make em like this still. They just don’t get the recognition they deserve. Give Morgan James a try. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omLCnq14mceqm7csi=UtSao4j89-BRbjqS Also Haley Reinhart Emma Smith I bring these performers up, not to compare to past greats, but to bring attention to current great artists.
