Hey Nancy, I have watched so many of your videos since I passed the interview. I love, love, love your energy, your suggestions, your encouragement, and definitely your silly antics!!! My first mock class is Monday (1/30/17) morning. The lesson seems fairly simple so I'm not too worried about the "teaching" part. I need to get better at TPR and remember that it's okay to show my quirky personality even more than I typically do in the regular classroom because that's what makes online learning and teaching an amazing experience. I'm super excited about joining the VIPKID team! Keep on filming and keep on smiling. :D

Got the good news after my first mock class today that I was accepted as a VIPKid teacher! I so appreciate all your videos and the tips!! The best is that you really encourage taking the tips and then making them work for you, and I think that's what really helped me in my mock class! I am not coordinated at drawing teeth on the whiteboard for a reward system (lol) so my first adjustment was my very own reward system and my evaluator was a big fan - he said he might steal that one, so that made me happy :) I am a bit nervous to actually get started but so excited! I feel like this is a great fit for me and my family! It seems like VIPKid has a great teacher community support system and I know that will help me with the transition. Thanks again! This applies 95% to all online ESL Platforms with Chinese organizations. I am currently with BOXFiSH which is very new as of September when it went live. The niche BOXFiSH has and what makes it so unique is it is not PC based on either end. It is purely mobile app based, both teacher and student. You say 4:00 a.m. is your first class? Kaitlhyn! I suggest practicing the things mentioned in your MC1 feedback! The mentor has a good feel for your teaching ability and can help you here. The score is out of 44 and to pass your first Mock class you have to get 40 or above. To pass your second Mock class you have to get 38 or above. It is much more difficult to pass the first and look at this as great practice. Relax, go slow, use simple sentences, know the lesson plan, lots of TPR, smiling and high energy!!!! You got this!

Thanks Merluis! Great question. My older students love to share stories and are very engaged by the questions I will ask them to extend the lesson. I share pictures (on my phone) and have great conversations with them. They love to share their accomplishments, talents, and activities of the day. They also love learning about where I live and the activities that we do. We also have fun jokes that we will do (i.e. my student will act like his sound isn't working and just move his mouth to respond to my questions). Cracks me up! Others love to get into character for the role play slides and really sell the performance. We have fun with those. Your very reserved and quiet, advanced students often engage through a little show and tell. Ask them if they have an item that relates to the lesson and they usually love going to get it to show you (i.e. healthy food or sports equipment)! Hope this helps! Happy teaching!

I started putting in my bookings and reviewing all the "trial" information since that seems to be a LOT of what new teachers get first. Your videos are super helpful! Quick question.... I'm not active on fresh desk yet so I can't ask directly. Does VIPKID like/allow ManyCam? I've seen on KZbin that several use it but it seems to create some weird/distracting lines. Have you ever made a video of what your setup looks like? I know you've listed all your tech specs. Thanks!

Congrats!!! I have seen teachers using ManyCam and it seems awesome. I use a Macbook with the build in webcam and my microphone ear buds that came with my iphone. I also have the Longitech headphones that I will link. I use them as well, but love my earbuds! I'm so, so interested in signing on to VIPkid, but one thing has me hesitating. My son is 5, pretty self-sufficient, but sometimes just needs hugs/reassurance. During the morning peak hours (5-9 or 6-10, EST), I wouldn't have child care available for him. How strict is VIPKID with the possibility of a child being seen/heard occasionally (NOT often)? Of course, I would do my best to keep him from interrupting lessons, I'm just curious how other SAHMs do this without child care.

Lindsey! This is a concern for many! When I first started teaching before my daughter had a set sleeping schedule I would leave more gaps in my schedule to check on her. She also joined several classes either playing on the floor or sitting right on my lap (sometimes being seen on the screen and sometimes not depending on if it was a distraction) The students LOVE seeing your children! I would invite your son to say, "Hi" if he wakes up, give him a hug and if you need to say, "1 minute, I'll be right back" to your student that is fine. I don't frequently leave my classroom, unless I absolutely have to, but you will be just fine!!

The book me video was an option for teachers to do and send into VIPKID at the time. You create a short video on anything and then they post it on the website. Parents see it and then book you:) I would create a freshdesk ticket and ask if they are currently offering Book Me Videos and if so if they could send you more info on it! Best of luck!!
