Run ning web apps off the cloud is the future and with Safari supporting desktop mode it makes it a compelling device for those needing to use spreadsheets or word docs. I try not to have Google apps installed from the app store as for obvious reasons Google does not support them that well. The advantage of the extra RAM in the M1 will help me as I have quite a lot of PWA's. Thanks for the insight!

One way to work around this and use the desktop version with the apps installed is use private browsing, although that could be a problem if you use a lot of auto fill searches and passwords, etc.

Dude I'm watching this in 2023 and Google docs still sketchy on some very basic tasks on ipad. Copy or cut in docs works some of the time sometimes docs freezes -- really frustrating. It's like Google created the app, dropped it into the app store and forgot about it. I never thought I would go back to the web portal, but that's what I have to do. It's also a mess trying to attach files using the Gmail app! Do I have to witch to browser Gmail too??? Thanks for the video.

yeah it works pretty well, espcecially through safari. but please keep in mind that google suite apps DO NOT support apple pencil at all...

This solution would’ve been perfect, but with iPad OS 17, there’s a pop up on the bottom of Safari and Google Chrome, asking the user if they want to switch to the app. Both buttons are unclickable and it’s mad annoying! Thank you for your elegant solution

Hi! I'm planning on getting an iPad Pro for work which mostly requires typing documents. The G suite isn't free, while individual apps like google sheets, docs, etc can be used for free, is that correct? Also, can the individual google apps be used offline? Another thing, does highlighting cells (by sliding) on google sheets work with a bluetooth mouse like it normally does on a PC? Or does a bluetooth mouse work the same on PC and iPad Pro? If you’re like me and use the iPad as a tablet (no keyboard and mouse) the apps may be better for you because they’re touch optimized, whereas the web versions are mouse optimized.

What do you think is the best secondary browser besides safari on the iPad? One that has desktop-class browsing, cursor support and a download manager. The use case would be if I want to use safari for my personal account, but want to use the other app for a work account.

There is no better browser than Safari because all of them use the WebKit Safari engine, and Safari is the only one allowed to use the latest version of it.

For the sheet in Safari. Are you able to scroll using mouse or trackpad? Current iteration in IpadOS 14 the scrolling can only be done using finger touch

Pre-iPadOS 15, if you try to scroll using the Magic Keyboard in Sheets (two-finger gesture), it won’t work. You have to drag the scroll bar, which is annoying. Is that fixed with the updated Safari?

I have ordered a new iPad Pro 12,9" 512 GB 5G because as a med student I need one portable device to take with me in order to study, take notes and draw. I use a lot Microsoft Word, and this year I will have to deliver some heavy papers and thesis that involve using a lot of features of the application, such as bibliography and so on. I am worried that the Office applications in iPadOS may be too limited for my requirements. Do you know if there is any way of getting the full Microsoft Word application running on iPadOS??

Thanks for asking! So there’s no way to bring the “desktop” version of word onto ipados. But the word app is more than fine, there are add ons that allow you to create bibliographies as well

Don’t keep your hopes up on Microsoft updating the apps as they feel the same since iOS 13. What you can do however is download a Remote Desktop app and connect to your desktop or laptop at home with your IPad Pro. Chrome seems to work with a keyboard, I also use Jump Desktop. Microsoft also has an official Remote Desktop app but I haven’t used it.

Chrome on ios/ipadOS isn’t real chrome. Apple only allows webkit which means the ipad chrome isn’t chromium. Chrome also doesn’t default as a desktop browser
