@@yanaquinn3248 When I go to sleep at night I turn the sound on in the app and I keep my screen open so I can quickly glance at the phone if I need to see him. You can have the sound on and the screen locked and still hear everything though - just keep your phone plugged in so it won't die! And I don't have my sound up all the way, I think the sound is pretty loud so I keep it around 40% volume!

Can the floor stand be placed on the short side of the crib instead of being centered on the wide side? Our crib is against the wall where we have a huge name sign so we cant place it there. One question: I know you said you use the sleep sack now, but what did you use when you were swaddling Eden? Did you place him in his swaddle inside the sleep sack? Or did you just not use the breathing monitoring until he was out of the swaddle? I feel like I've spent so much of my pregnancy hearing about how you want zipper pjs for those middle of the night changes, and so it seems burdensome to me to think of having to take him out of the sleep sack and then out of the pajamas or swaddle too. That being said, I appreciate this video so much. I had the Nanit on my registry and then saw it was on sale today but all the bad reviews really scared me off. I think it is important to remember that sometimes products just don't work well for some people and that's true for EVERY monitor. I also really appreciate that this is your honest review and you weren't gifted the product. I honestly can't trust reviews 100% if the person was given the product for free or are being sponsored. We didn't use the breathing monitor when he was first born, just the camera itself. I would check on him all the time, placing my hand on his chest to make sure he was breathing since we couldn't use the breathing monitor. We swaddled him until about 3-4 months I think and we just used the Swaddle Me velcro swaddles. We bought the breathing bands (that go under the armpit) not realizing that he would actually prefer to be swaddled/not realizing they even had the breathing swaddles. For our next we will probably try the Nanit swaddles because I love the breathing wear! It's all so personal depending on what your baby likes and what works for your lifestyle! Having a velcro swaddle that's easy to use on top of pajamas to us was not an issue at all for middle of the night changes.

I had two questions: 1) how loud is the alert if the breathing monitor doesn’t detect movement? If my phone is on but I’m not using it or currently on the app, will I hear it? 2) if I want to keep the camera and sounds on at night like you mentioned, does that mean all other phone notifications (ie text messages etc) can go through as well? To your first question I would say it’s pretty loud, like an amber alert if you have those notifications on your phone. And you don’t have to be on your phone to hear it. When I had a false alarm because I left the monitoring on but left the breathing wear in the crib alone, my phone was down the hall and I heard it! And at night I still get all other notifications, like texts calls or my morning alarm, with the monitor open on my screen!

We didn't use the breathing monitor portion at all when he was still in swaddles. Nanit hadn't come out with their breathing wear swaddles yet so we just used our plain ones and then started the breathing monitor when he was able to use their sleepsacks.

Yes! We have blackout curtains as well so it is very dark in his room. The camera uses infrared lights so it picks up good detail in a very dark room without lighting anything up!

With our son, we didn't use the breathing monitoring while he wore a swaddle. With our daughter, we bought their breathing wear swaddles and used those! They were great, similar design to other velcro swaddles!

I can see about 80% of our nursery when it’s not zoomed into full screen. The way ours is set up I can see the rocking chair and edge of the change pad table, but it doesn’t show the full room

Thanks! If you use the breathing wear like the swaddles or sleep sack you can definitely skip the owlet in my opinion. I will say I didn’t use the breathing wear when my son was a newborn because we didn’t buy their swaddles, we waited until he was older and used the sleep sacks. But we’ve used the Nanit as our baby monitor since the beginning and even without the breathing wear we love it!

Yes! My husband and I each have it on our phones and you can personalize your profile (i.e. it knows I'm mom and he's dad). You can also set up a limited profile for babysitters/grandparents to view the baby but they won't get all the same insights I believe.

We purchased it for our premature twins so the swaddle is a good call although I don’t know if the app can handle two swaddles at once for one camera (sleeping together at first). I have a major concern you may be able to resolve. We tested it yesterday while the babies are still at the hospital and noticed that it picks up the sound of the whole flat when someone speaks in the corridor or living room and not just from a close distance which makes it impossible to use really. Do you know if we are setting something incorrectly?

I’m between the Nanit with the sleep band vs the Owlet with the sock. So for a newborn/infant if they are swaddled, you can put the breathing band around? I’m assuming the same with the owlet sock.

They don't recommend you put the band around another swaddle on baby. But Nanit does sell their own swaddles that have the breathing wear in them you could use. We haven't tried them, but plan to use them for baby no. 2!

We bought the camera first and then bought the breathing wear a few months later so you can purchase them separately. But they do work together - in other words you need the Nanit camera to use their breathing wear and then you monitor everything in their app.

@@mehreen4eva I used a camera monitor when he was in a bassinet in our room so I definitely recommend something just for peace of mind. If you don't want a camera and just want some type of monitor my friend used Snuza which is a little clip you place on their diaper and it monitors their belly moving/breathing and sounds an alarm when it stops. But you can't keep using that when they're old enough to roll over. I like Nanit because it can be used from newborn up until toddler if needed.

Nanit recommends having one camera centered above the crib, so for twins it would be best to install two cameras in the room above each crib. While I can see most of the room from one camera, it would only be able to track one baby through the breathing wear at a time.

Yes! The baby has to be wearing some sort of their breathing wear, either a band, swaddle or sleep sack. It uses the pattern on the clothing to track breaths per minute.

If you use the travel stand, you can position the camera anyway you want in the room to keep an eye on them. But using it like this means you may not be able to get accurate breathing monitoring if that is important to you - it needs to be positioned over the baby with a clear view of the breathing band, which typically won't happen if it's more upright to view the whole room.

I think it depends on how much light is in the room that the camera can pick up! As the sun moves around our room I notice it going from color to the black and white which is what it shows when it’s darker

The only problem I see with this and other baby monitors is where the data (video and analytics) is stored. I read Nanit's statement about their security and they mentioned that all your data from the app is stored in an AWS S3 bucket (Amazon cloud storage). Now they claim that this alone is good security and this is what worries me. I work in cybersec and I can assure everyone that this is an empty statement. It also worries me that you are able to access your app and camera without being on the local network (wifi) because that basically means that your account credentials are your only line of security. It's usually better for IoT devices that this isn't a possibility. Do you know if the app supports 2 factor authentication? If it doesn't it would be a real deal breaker since the functionality with all the analytics sound amazing.

If you lose your internet connection but are still connected on the same WiFi it will still work! It goes into a local view only setting but as long as the phone and camera are on the same network it will still work without connection to the internet

It can get pretty loud but you can adjust it. The Nanit Pro does a great job of cancelling out the noise from the sound machine when you're listening to the monitor, but if you use the original Nanit camera, the sound is very loud through my phone because it's playing through the camera where it's picking up the noise. The Pro is able to cancel out that noise somehow though so I can still hear my baby through the night with the sound machine on.

We have always been able to use the breathing monitor with our travel stand! We usually bring a tripod with us to mount it to since you have to have a good angle on it. But we've also just placed it on a dresser or bookshelf next to the bassinet and have had no issues!

You have to buy two monitors. And I don’t think you can view both at once, you have to switch between cameras on the app

Thanks for such a great review! Do you know if they can wear the band in the snoo? Do you think it’s worth getting the one that comes with the band and sleep sack or just the camera/wall mount?

I don't know if the breathing wear will work in the Snoo - I don't have one but I think they have a built in swaddle that would cover the band and the movement might throw off the readings. I love having the breathing wear sleep sacks! My son is 13 months old now and sleeps in one each night - very comforting for a mom with a wild sleeper who likes sleeping on his tummy!

@@courtneybean5293 He is in the large! I think it's 12-24 months. We didn't start using the breathing wear with him until he was in his own room which was round 5 months! Before that we just used the camera alone but I would have loved to have the smaller sacks or bands for under his arms

I was a little confused, do you have to keep the app open on your phone to get monitoring alerts? Or does it alert you even if your phone is locked like normal?

Also does it monitor heart rate as well? Or just breathing/movement?

@@karizzo It monitors breaths per minute, so not heart rate. And you can get notifications when the phone is locked - I usually just keep the app open on my phone at night while I sleep so I can quickly glance over, but during the day I have it locked and it will notify me if there is sound/motion detected or if his breathing stopped.
