Actually I found out about NaNo a couple of months ago and I thought it would be a really cool challenge. And then I saw this video and I was like "What?". So as I start watching the video I thought to myself "maybe next year" and then you go ahead and start reading the comments xD I felt so bad, because I was already making the same excuse and you know what? I'm gonna do it. For the first time, I'm gonna go for it and just have an awesome time :D Good luck Kristina and good luck everyone else who is participating ;)

This was me. "Next year"... "next year"....."-sigh- Next year. Definitely"--for THREE years in the row it was "next year". So this year...first day..I started writing. Got 300 words into and just..I couldn't. I wasn't feeling it (and this is a story I want to write SOOO bad, I guess I just didn't want to do it for nano), but day 6...I was like "NO! I said I was going to do nano" and, super randomly. A concept popped into my head and I ran with it. Now, day 13 (well, 14, but I haven't gone to bed and haven't written for this day yet), 1 week after I started, I'm 37k in. I don't have to say "next year" anymore!! I mean, I do, because I'm planning to do Camp Nano and then NaNo next year, again! I mean, if I keep this pace up (8k yesterday!!!!!!), I should be done by hopefully Monday or Tuesday (with nano, not the novel. That's gonna be at least 70k for 1st draft, probably) depending on whether or not I'm off on Sunday! And, even better, I'm in love with what I'm writing...I haven't written in 2+ years. I just...didn't feel like I could do it anymore. I was waiting for inspiration to strike. I said "screw it" come day 6 and just... *wrote* (granted, I practically restarted the novel on day 8 cause I hated my first 6k so much but now I love it!) So I highly recommend people stop going "next year"--because, if there's one way to not do it, it's to promise to do it next year, though I understand if you missed it that time around. Just...when it comes around, even if starting late, just *do* it. So worth it. So very worth it.

This is hilarious! I really hope someone who made one of those comments sees this. I've done nanowrimo before and had a really awesome time and even managed to inspire someone to start writing their own novel. Whether or not anyone reads it doesn't matter to this person - they just really seem to enjoy planning and writing and thinking of new plot points. It's really awesome to watch! (Even better than participating, for me personally.)

The mounting stress is astounding. Though, maybe it isn't stress, maybe it's anticipation? I'm nervous about the time constraints of my day-to-day getting in the way of my goal. That said, I've been planning this novel for years, and everyone that I know is cognizant of this. My largest issue is transferring what I write into my pc. I have books upon books upon books of written work ready, but my own handwriting is so bad that even I can't understand my own notes at times. But, I have no excuses left. In four days,my book will begin. The pressure is killing me

I've been doing NaNo since 2007, and I'm definitely doing it this year! This is the first year I've been at a loss for what to write, as I normally know what novel I'll be writing months in advance. I finally decided about a week ago to write a prequel novel for my 2008 win, as I'm trying to edit that 2008 novel right now and I don't want to pull myself out of that universe. The prequel is going to focus on the villain, and how she became evil--which will help to make her more than the cardboard cutout of evil.

In early 2013, I heard about NaNoWriMo and signed up without realising that by November 2013, I was going to be in my last year of school. Thanks to coursework and exams, I only got to a little over 2,000 words. However, this year, although I am currently in my first year of college, I don't have much work so I decided I will definitely take part this year. I always forget when it is because I get busy and distracted and no one in the physical world around me takes part so it's usually the end of the month before I realise and then I've missed it but I was determined to make 2014 the year I remember and so far I haven't forgotten. I first found out about NaNo in 2005, and even though I have a terrible win record, I kept trying every year. However, this is the first year I actually won't be participating. =( It was a hard decision to make, but I got my first full-time job this year, and I feel I have less free time than ever, so even though I like writing, I don't want it to take up most of it. I feel I'd be biting more than I can chew, and I don't want to set myself up for failure -- which is funny, because I've failed at it so many times in the past, but the thing about all those years is that I actually believed I could win! It wouldn't be the same if I didn't believe in myself from the start. I'm still looking forward to November because one of my best friends is participating, so rest assured I'll be cheering for him, and for everyone who's doing it! =D

I've done NaNo before, but never made the 50,000 word target. Now this year I've been writing something that I'm really proud of and I want to use this time to get as much of it done as possible. This will be 9 years since I first attempted NaNoWriMo (and completed it). My freshman English teacher got a friend of mine and I hooked on this, it was always a competition. We did it every year (even upped the word count goal to 70,000 the last year of high school and the year after). However in 2011 I was in another country with no computer so I didn't complete it (I did hand write 26,000 words though)and that year kind of deterred me. But I'm gonna do it this year!

I'm a big proponent of starting with nothing. October prewriting is great, and I'm actually getting some of that done this year, but if you are sitting there thinking "I don't have a plot at all. There's no way I can prewrite everything in time." In past years I've started on Halloween with nothing and won. So you can do it too.

I'm currently studying abroad in England (I'm from Australia) and I've been travelling a lot (I went to USA and met you and Joe at VidCon!) and have a bunch of trips planned in November with a lot of long train rides, so I think that instead of writing a fictional novel, I'm going to write like reflections and recounts of the travelling I've done so far, since at the moment I've just been texting mum with updates and it'd be nice to have 50,000 words worth of memories to look back on in a few years :)

So, I'll be participating in my 3rd year of NaNo this November. I do Camp NaNo inbetween and no goals are usually around the 10k-20k mark. I have reached my camp goals, but so far I have not reached the 50k goal. It's sort of depressing, but I want to WIN so badly this year, but I fear that I wont because I haven't had any time to do any pre-planning for my novel and my ideas are only half formed. I almost never pre-plan my novel beyond a sort of vague conception of what I think I might want to happen. I kind of set up the scene and let the characters run. And, you know, trip and fall flat on their faces and sometimes pick themselves up again. If you have an hour or so to talk through your idea with a friend, that helps a LOT to get a more solidified idea in your mind even if you don't want to do extensive outlining first!

I'm so torned! I love writing small stories, I've attempted to write longer ones but I always end up getting bored of my own story and forgetting about it. I think NANOWRIMO is a great idea 'cause it kind of forces you to keep going, which is something I really need. (procrastinating!!!) A very good friend of mine wants to do NANOWRIMO this year, with me, but I'm in my last year of highschool, exams are coming up, I got lot's of big assignments I need to finish this month... I just don't want it to get it in the way of my schoolwork since it's my last year and I want to fully give myself to writing that novel. But, next year around this time I'll be busy with other things, so then I might never do it... Ah! Really need to think this through. Love the idea though :)
