it's actually pretty nice to find an authortube channel run by a beginner writer with a full time job. most writers on yt seem to have already written dozens of books (none published though) and are able to pump out 2k words+ on a daily basis. as someone who's only ever written short stories and who does not have that much free time, i'm looking forward to watching your journey :)

Love this video. I really enjoy using Scrivener. The digital notecards are my friends. Campfire Writing Software is also really neat. I use it when I'm writing away from home or on my phone. I'm excited to see your writing journey and where it takes you, happy writing and good luck!

cheering you on! its fun to see someone sort of just starting their journey. Writing is certainly a trial and error, lots of testing things out. I'm only now (after writing for like 15 years--turning 30 in a few months!) figuring out what works to me & have decided to buckle down and start concentrating on original fiction (I've written over 200 fanfictions which is GREAT to hone my skills... not so great if I ever want to publish something). I'm still in the "I need to finish an entire draft & revisions" part of my journey myself haha. decided to use nano to do world building and probably planning, depending on how long the world building takes My tip is honestly to just test things out. Like how you said you didn't think the "no editing" rule a lot of ppl go for during nano/first drafts is something you're not sure about. I think you have a good plan as far as that goes! But don't be afraid to test things out because there are a thousand and one ways to get to a destination. For instance, for me, scrivener is always overwhelming. It has amazing tools I know I'd find useful, but i get so bogged down by all the choices that I've finally said that I'm a simple girlie and have created my own writing and plotting format for google docs (sort of how like character sheets just don't do it for me but for some people they're EVERYTHING). You never know what might or might not work for you until you try something out!
@briellewrites Жыл бұрын
this is such great advice!!! thank you. that's definitely the approach i'll try to take into this month. I have a feeling character sheets will just be a sort of after-the-fact thing for me: a place to track details that i learn through the drafting process, not somewhere where i actually brainstorm who the characters are. best of luck with your worldbuilding during NaNo!! let me know how your project goes :)

Hey if you want something more worldbuilding focused you should try campfire! It makes building a fictional world so much easier 😊
