But that's because of cover tanks and such and how needed they are to take on big threats. And they're also specialized for either phsyical or magical damage. It's all about context there. In most games though, magical defense isn't a bad thing to do, since you're likely to find more powerful magic attackers in those games later on. Also, those guys sound like morons who need to GET OUT OF THE FIRE.

He had to run ALL the way towards Melty and tried to kill her *with his sword.* Wouldn't it be easier, and stealthier to use a crossbow?! That way, he'd be far away enough for Raphtalia and Filo to not see the attack coming, plus it would've made Naofumi sensing the danger and preventing it that much more badass. Fuuny Fact: She's not joking when she calls the other Hero's Naofumi's support, she genuinely doesn't think or realise they are meant to be legendary heroes. Originally (before B!tch screwed things up by convincing Trash to try getting all four Heroes) the Heroes were meant to be spread out amongst the countries of the world to combat each Nations wave assaults. As such, since Naofumi was so clearly ahead of the other three, she just assumed they were extras. It never occurred to her that the weak trio could have been Heroes at all, as far as she knows (and informs her side), the only Hero that Melomarc has is the Shield Hero.

What pisses me off the most is that the Bow hero treats the thanks like trash. Sword is understandable since they always have the highest atk and spears tend to either do decent damage or be a mix of physical and magical damage or even debuffs. But the bow? Considering they were levelling up after the conversation about the xp curve lessening at 70, I imagine Naofumi had at least doubled his level compared to their initial encounter. Then factor in the skills he learned from the three stooges, allowing him to unlock several more skills quickly, as well as modify, upgrade and reinforce all his equipment. And outside of being mortally weak to a certain shield, I'd argue Glass was still stronger than Naofumi, at least in terms of offensive power.
