I really get a sense that she's really matured over the last few years. More rounded. Her intelligence shines through in this interview.
I absolutely love Naomi. some may criticize her personality but I think that her personality fits the industry that she is in. The modeling industry is extremely racist and as a black model if you don't stand up for what you believe in and have a tough confidence then they will run all over you and replace you. Naomi is aware that she is the black token of the industry and she knew throughout her early modeling career that she could be replaced easily with another black model. Unlike the industry that's filled with hundreds of white models who look basic. There are some designers who will admit that they only one a small amount of blacks in their show which limits the rest of black models. And don't even get me started about how they steal black cultural designs while excluding black models.

The individual interviewing Naomi Campbell is Jonathan Rugman and he is one Channel 4's foreign affairs correspondents. Given his lack of awareness and insight into racism and the dynamics of racism in an international industry plus his willingness to dismiss, patronise and dredge up insulting stereotypes, I was curious about the quality of his other journalism. If you can be bothered to go to Channel 4, you'll see that, apart from being an annoying knob, he's a lightweight who usually makes very dull reports and is unable to offer much in the way of knowledge or analysis. I'm guessing that HE was angered (and intimidated) by Naomi Campbell's clarity, incisiveness and calm.

The interviewer was obviously asking questions intending to provoke her - she did an amazing job considering the horrible stuff he was firing at her, and I wholly agree that we need much more diversity in the fashion industry - as an English resident, I know there is now so much ethnic diversity within the UK - we need to echo this and represent all cultural backgrounds within fashion.

Speaking to the comment below, a designer who mixes races on the runway because its important to them is adding a whole layer of intelligence and aesthetics to their message . There are plenty of black models who are good enough, that's not the issue. Additionally, at Parsons more than half of our fashion models in drawing class are of African descent, there is naturally so much grace and movement in the body. Anyone who doesn't care whether their cast is diverse or not is sending a powerful message, which you don't hear if you don't care either. I hear it. I feel it. Speaking up helps open the eyes and ears, educating those who may not have been aware.

Donald McPherson you are wrong!!! The idea that there aren't that many beautiful women of color is a lie! It is all political. People want to appeal to a narrow audience. But it is whatever. Fashion was more fascinating in the 80s and 90s. Way more diversity even in sizes.

Naomi did her thang in this interview. The interviewer was trying to sensationalize this too much and get things off topic. Go Naomi for putting him in his place!

She is telling the truth! This is a a problem in the industry. Can you stop telling a black model who is successful that she is successful! Yes, she is right about this situation. Well done Naomi! 🙏🏾

Naomi Campbell is just trying to help the black community and I give here respect for that cause I know you guys would do the same for your race no matter where you come from...
@EmmyV20025 жыл бұрын
It's more like Naomi Campbell neglecting the black community. Befriending some awful, child rape and violence enabler and African dictator over some blood diamonds proves it.

Even the description kills me. "she believes", only her ? So are you not seeing colours ? She points out, she observes, she proves, she SPEAKS OUT !
