You managed to change my mind about Naomi, I always thought she wasn't a very nice person, but I was glad to hear about how she appreciated the work of the seamstresses etc. And of course I have to stress how amazing you are at guiding us through exhibitions and giving us so much of your fashion knowledge! ❤❤

Thank you very much Arietta! My father was an art dealer and always took me around exhibitions telling me the stories behind the paintings, so perhaps something has rubbed off! I imagine Naomi gets painted a certain way by the press, which doesn’t reflect all that she is. Being nice to seamstresses isn’t as good a story as clobbering an assistant with a phone!! Thank you very much for watching too ❤️❤️

Thank you so much for sharing with us! This looks like it was an incredible exhibit. I have always loved the work of John Singer Sargent, in particular "Madame X". Virginie Gauthreau was from one of my hometowns, New Orleans, LA.
@Samanthalovestosew
@Samanthalovestosew Ай бұрын
Oh I didn’t know she was from New Orleans! I do think she was an extraordinary beauty (no wonder she attracted jealousy!) The exhibition was actually better than I made it look! I did my best but it was quite crowded and people’s heads got in the way of the pictures. Even more frustratingly there were many more original dresses but they were behind such reflective glass it was impossible to film them. Still at least being able to capture a little of this extraordinary exhibition was better than nothing. Thank you so much for watching and appreciating 💐

Another lovely well-rounded, cheeky video but ooooh is Sargent my jam. The absolute grip ‘Morning Walk’ had on me as it hurled me into the historical fashion abyss 😂😂 would’ve spent hours viewing the paintings next to the extant garments, sounds like such neat exhibitions to see xx❤️❤️ Edit: I forgot to add.. I wear heels and platforms regularly, and I think the highest heels I have are 9 inches tall. Falling in heels higher than that would probably traumatize me !! Naomi really put in the work 😂
@Samanthalovestosew
@Samanthalovestosew Ай бұрын
Thank you very much for watching! I can imagine Sargent being hugely inspirational for historical sewing. You would have been in heaven looking at all the beaded and embroidered details at close quarters then. They were quite something. I couldn’t get over how many of the Worth gowns that Sargent painted his sitters in were still in existence and on display, and many like new. Sadly most were behind such reflective glass I had to ditch the footage … but there were many more! I applaud you wearing your platforms and high heels. I own some rather fab original 40s platforms but am rarely brave enough to wear them. Let alone with rubber tights that stick together … in front of a crowd 😂 Naomi was brave! Thank you again for your support xx❤️❤️

Thank you very much Lenore! It was a great treat and I have now collapsed in a heap of exhaustion 😆 I had my dad to stay. I drove him about on various culture trips, then back to London, crammed in all the exhibitions and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, then drove back again. Looking forward to some peaceful sewing! Xx 💗💐

These both sound like they were absolutely marvellous exhibitions! Naomi is such an iconic beauty and I really love hearing about the exhibition from you. It made me wish I could have gone! John Singer Sergeant is one of my favourite painters tbh...I wish I could paint half as beautifully (I suppose there was more pain in his paintings than I even knew lol). Lovely view all around Samantha, I really enjoyed it!

Thank you so much Michelle, I’m really pleased you enjoyed the exhibitions! I know what you mean about Singer Sargent - I always imagined a languid bohemian type not a sensitive and possessed type. So much energy went into creating those beautiful paintings and he clearly agonised over every detail. I was amazed at how many of the original dresses in his paintings still exist and in such amazing condition. Unfortunately many were encased in such highly reflective glass cases it wasn’t possible to capture them on video. So pleased you enjoyed watching what I did film and thank you for your support 💗💐

Thank you very much Rowan! It was a bit different for me wasn’t it?! I dithered about doing it but I came out buzzing from both exhibitions so I wanted to attempt to share them. (Will be going back to business as usual now though 😆) I crammed both exhibitions and Hampton Court Flower Show into a couple of days after chauffeuring my dad around Exmoor then driving him back to London. Since then I’ve driven back here again and the dogs and I aren’t planning on going anywhere for some time to come … it’ll be paws up on the sofa! I’m recovering from all that frenetic activity and the dogs are recovering from the shock of me going out and leaving them home alone! 😆 🐾🐾 💕

That was so incredibly fascinating. I really wish Toronto had more exhibitions like this. But I'm really glad that I get to see it through your eyes! I also loved hearing your views about Naomi Campbell. As one of the many crazy things I've done in my life, I have worked runway shows. In the back with the models helping them dress and all that stuff. And I felt for them. Their lives were not all glamour. It was getting to a designer's at 3 a.m. for a fitting. Having to work 20 hour days. They would be beyond exhausted, but still go. I can understand what they're having tantrums. Thank you for another amazing video! ❤❤❤

That’s amazing that you worked on catwalk shows! Yes, I read interviews with Naomi talking about how some models had complete crack ups with exhaustion after doing show after show in one country after another. If we even think how exhausting air travel is! The exhibitions were amazing, in both there was such a buzz of energy that comes from seeing creativity and originality. If I wasn’t so tired from all the travelling I’ve been doing (which isn’t much compared to a model’s life!) I’d be buzzing with new ideas myself! 😆 Thank you so much for watching and supporting me ❤️❤️❤️

Samantha I was a little surprised by your video content this week. I enjoyed it very much. Your knowledge is wide ranging and it was good to hear you discuss modern fashion icons. I am a fan of Vivienne Westwood. I remember when I first saw her, she was on the Terry Wogan tv show, she was mocked and laughed at. People thought she was weird and didn't understand her. I am always one to support a perceived underdog. I support unique and different. I bought a pair of Vivienne Westwood trousers from a model a few years ago. He had worn them on the catwalk but they never went into production. He was the same 34 inch waist as me but at 6ft 3inches he was taller than me and suffice to say had longer legs. Whenever I wear the trousers I have to roll the legs up 🤣🙈 but I don't think Vivenne would mind? Samantha I like you for similar reasons I liked Vivienne. You are not mainstream, you stick to your guns and know your own mind.

Thank you very much Ian - I am delighted to be in the same category as Vivienne Westwood! I too remember people laughing at her and her clothes. Of course close up the construction is extraordinarily skilful. People make fun of visionaries like her and always have. They fear the truly original. How wonderful that you own a pair of Vivienne Westwood trousers. I think she would love that you add your own touch by rolling them up. I realised that this is not my usual content and didn’t expect many views but they were two very special exhibitions. There was a buzz in the rooms because somehow people knew that they were in the presence of something amazing. I remember the same impact among all the dresses at the Frida Kahlo exhibition. And there she was (in a photo) in all her colourful embroidered traditional clothes in New York among pastel-clad Jackie Kennedy lookalikes. It takes courage and I like that you also want to celebrate these brave and original artists. 💐
