I work at a newly built high school. Not only are they locked, but they employ security to patrol the grounds, and the classroom blocks have motion sensors triggering LOUD AF ALARMS. So, it sounds like TV nowadays is trying to give more aspiring directors a chance, leading to a mess of disparate plots and inconsistent writing. No surprise: Anime has done this sort of thing before, where multiple directors will get to do parts of an animation, but they'll have a theme to use as a guideline. For instance? The movie Memories. Or Robot Carnival.
