Viva le france :D Since the victory points help represents supply and communication routes, it's safe to say that the depleted allied force is now cut off, and now French reserves will soon be surrounding the region. Great analysis of the napoleonic tactics :D I love it when a battle in NTW3 can resemble the tactics of a younger napoleon, or at least at the height of his genius, at Austerlitz. The the way the french left a small force on their right to guard a town, reminds me of how the french held sokolnitz, during the battle of austerlitz, to draw much of the main allied army away from the pratzen heights ;o Oh and I like to compare the French Imperial Guard to kriegsmen in the Warhammer 40k universe xD it's a blessing to them that they can fight a desperate battle and possibly sacrifice their lives.

The Spartans were the smallest contingent of the approximately 2100 defenders at Thermopylae. Cool example of choke points, but 1400 Thespians think that battle had little to do with the Spartans other than it was a Spartan that betrayed them all.

@broadbandislife2 жыл бұрын
@@hyperion3145 Speaking of Thebes and Thermopylae, the contignent thereof that perished there was evidently the lump sum of anti-Persian sentiment in the city because afterwards they joined the invaders quite enthusiastically. @@Inquisitor_Vex The usual English rendition is "any hussar who isn't dead by thirty is a blackguard" AFAIK. Note that Lasalle himself lived until 34 (he fell at Wagram in 1809) but the quip neatly encapsulates the daredevil ethos - or at least image - actively cultivated by hussars.

@@broadbandislife my dad is a huge Napoleonic buff. He’s told me a bunch of stories like this. Either he’s read it in a book somewhere or I’m getting this guy muddled with someone else. If I remember rightly, he had a few shot out in the morning and by afternoon, we was leading another regiment who were heavy cav as opposed to the light cav he was leading earlier. So he ended up storming ahead and getting shot himself. (Posted an excerpt from Wikipedia that covers his death. I couldn’t see anything about him losing horses but I’m guessing that if he’s complaining they hadn’t fought then he probably didn’t lose that many, if any.)

I agree Apollo ;o about that point around 32:15, that the Russians might have been able to send a large force to try and take the victory point lol but I guess they couldn't decide how many to leave behind to hold the french at the other town. Maybe they were thinking that the french force would just maneuver around the smaller russian holding force, who might have too few numbers to cover a long distance/long flank ;o and then being stretched like that might have just made it easier for the french to wipe most of it out, on their way to the victory point..
