Something different today and we head to the Land of the Pharaohs to look at the life of the father of modern Egypt, Mohammed Ali Pasha and the world in which he lived.
It might originally look like something that's not your bag, but give it a go, he's a fascinating dude!
Either way, thanks for checking it out, and I'll see you in the next one!

@@NapoleonicWargamingalbanians with fustanella:) Ali Pasha's family was before a catholic Albanian Family with european roots. The History of Albanians is amazing. Such a big Nation, that survive the Roman Empire, byzantin Empire, later Ottoman Empire. And now the Albanians are spitted in four Religions but united in one language. This is very important to say. As much as Pasha's we had under Ottoman Empire, we creat also Pops like Pop Clemens Albani, or Pyrrus from Epirus and later the most famous warrior in Europe at the middle age Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu aka ATHLETA CHRISTI. Don't matter which Religion the fought for them self, for their language and their familys. 90/100 "Greek" Revolutioner are Arvanitas/Albanian 🤙

Well done Tim. Looking forward to the Ottoman video and will put in a request for you to cover the Cossacks and the Russo-Ottoman war(s) (there's so many!). It must have been a strange feeling for Napleon's mamelukes knowing they might be the last surviving men of a centuries old institution. I also thought the Bashi-Bazooks were later but there is a set in 1/72 made by Strelets(?) or maybe Orion, not 100%.

Fantastic video Tim. I know your in the NHS but you should really see if you could volunteer teach History somewher or maybe a book (Illustrated with minis, of course) on the period. I had recently read (most of) a great tome on Napoleon's Egyption campaign so was familiar with the geography & the factions involved but your excitement really brought home the color, thrilling strategems and horrific acts of the political class of the period. It was entralling. I can't see ever getting to the point of building an army suitable to napoleonic Ottomans but I'll look forward to your production in any case. Oh, wanted to let you know how helpful your sessions of painting figures still on the sprue has been to me. I've knocked out 3 regiments of British foot in (for me) no time. I'd love to see a video on techniques of glueiing together plastic figures without glueing the parts to your fingers or your fingers together, or creating blobby messes of shoulder attachments, that have to be cleared up later. Thanks so much for your work, it brightens my world. You may sleep a little easier knowing the big orange baby monster is on his way out of US government, I won't sleep well, till mid January but things are looking up.

Thanks for the kind words dude! Yeah, my Ottomans are just something a little different, they're very much a background project! Not sure about a book, I'm not academically rigorous enough, I just like the juicy bits! Glad to hear you're bashing out the minis, not some the gluing of the elite shoulders myself yet, but I do have some to do so I'll let you know! My initial thought would be to get some super glue on a bit of scrap card and use a cocktail stick to put it on the mini (not the shoulder pad) then drop the pad on before pressing down with the tip of a knife. Not sure if that would work, but I think that's what I'd try first

I always though the Pasha was ethnic Albanian but after some research, it's not entirely clear. He was born in Kavala, Macedonia in modern day Greece. His mother came from Nusretli, a town near Kavala. Some say his mother was ethnic Albanian. His father was from Kavala but I've seen some attribute their origin to Konya, in modern day Turkey with Kurdish roots. His perception as an Albanian stemmed from his association with the Albanian contingent which he led in Egypt, though he identified himself as Turkish and he spoke Turkish, understandably as he was an Ottoman administrative.

Banastre Tarleton only had one child, an illegitimate daughter, who died young and without heir, he was quite the rake so likely had others (though likewise there was the possibility he was infertile given that he had a young lover followed by a young wife and despite an avowed love for women never sired a child with either of them, I doubt there was any lack of trying) but that was the only acknowledged one, I have also never heard such a rumour despite knowing several Tarletons from the main branch and his exploits and life being a topic of pride and interest to them (and I don't think they are the sort to much care of scandal, to put it lightly, so it likely would have been mentioned if the case). There was likely another Tarleton or some with a similar name or someone who looked a bit like him who died and no one off in Egypt bothered to send of a letter to Tarleton to see if it was his son and not ensign Carleton who happened to be wearing green and a tarleton hat.

Alexander’s mother Olympia what is a Malucia, which was a tribe of Greeks from the region of Epirus. Epirus had multiple groups within it, including Illyrians, and others. Pyrrhus was from Epirus and not Albania. Around Roman times you had resettlement of areas that had the population due to illness and parts of Greece needed repopulation, but even before that may be about 900 years before that during Roman time, they had settled Illyrians in parts of Greece to help balance out local skirmishes. in any case, the deep populated areas later, or in Greece, and in Albania, where the Byzantine emperors transported people from other parts of the empire. For example, the town of Himara in Albanian had been re-populated with Anatolian Greeks and others, while Albanians, or moving south forward into Greek areas and later many went to Italy during the ottoman conquest. Greeks and Albanian share the same background, and both seem to have the same roots from the Paliobalkan group. So many ancient figures are confused between Greek and Albanian. Regardless, those historical figures were Greek.

@@NapoleonicWargaming Are you kidding? First of all, he didn't become the ruler of Ancient Egypt. And the ancient Egyptians were completely "Hellenized" during the diadochi wars after Alexander the Great who among Olympia and Pyrrhus of Epirus you called Albanian! Rome and last the Arabian conquests from which almost no modern Egyptian carry similar DNA to. So how was the ruler of the older nation on earth? The nation is a very different thing than a country or a region. The Hebrew nation isn't just the borders of Israel and the Greek nation isn't just the current borders of Greece. He was the ruler of the Muslim Arab client-state of the Ottoman Empire. Albanians are a mix of ottoman settlers or Muslimified local Greek & Slavs (Roman citizens), you can potentially call him Albanian but calling Pyrrhus, Alexander the Great and his mother like that is an insult to history. Where did you even gather all of this information? Where are the references? For a 4 page paper at my university, I did recently, used 25 references (Around 13-15 minutes) and you talk for 54 minutes without a single one and start with disinformation like this? What am I even going to give you to read now? www.goodreads.com/book/show/7034694-pyrrhus Pyrrhus? www.amazon.com/Alexander-Great-Philip-Freeman/dp/1416592814 Alexander the Great? There are many books about the Greeks of Epirus who were forced to migrate to Greece by the Turk-Albanians before and during the Greek revolutionary war but are in Greek. There is MUCH information about Pasha's time in Greek literature, we Greeks even admire him for what he did. He was waiting for the Greek revolt to happen to make his own but it happened the other way around and because the ottomans were busy with Ali Pasha the modern Greek state was able to happen. Many of the Greek revolutionaries grew up by and fought in his army. He recruited "Kleftes" irregular bandits that later came to be the only army of the revolutionary state of Greece. So in his way made the revolution happen. I don't know about foreign literature about this and there's much Albanian propaganda to worry about.

@tkcem4438 I don't know about that, but yes Atatirk was definitely Turkish. I detail his young life in tge video, he was the son of an Albanian tobacco merchant. Tge Ottoman Empire kept pretty good tecords so his early life is well attested. The Egyptians certainly say he was Albanian too, and I don't think they would be part of a great cover up of Ali Pasha's heritage. www.egypttoursportal.com/muhammad-ali-pasha/
