Tim, another excellent starter video (I do love watching them even if I'm not getting that particular army). In this case, I have just realised that I have enough spare WoFun minis to start a small Saxon army and this has been a great help.

Great video, as always! It is a great way to get a Saxon army if you are on a tighter budget. The main difference between the Perry 1812-15 set and the Saxons of that period is that the musketeer regiments all had a sabre, the french didnt. I have the very same divison, but in metal myself, but still lots to paint though.

So, are there no other scales than 28mm? Also, the Saxons went from the early uniform straight into a 'Spencer' so similar to the Bardin double breasted, and Saxon grenadiers didn't wear epaulettes - only the Garde did. Calpe are probably the best Saxon figures available in 28mm.

After 8 battalions of early Spanish in mostly white, ( I really didn't want a whole table of dark blue, later Spanish, Portuguese, Vistula Polish & French) I think I'm done with white for awhile, as tempting as you've made these Saxons. I've been hoping to see the finished Guard Cuirassier since the first time you teased us with the unpainted figures like, . . 2 YEARS ago ? ! Don't tell me they're still languishing in your stack of shame !

If you want to paint an all white model, this is what I do with my Neapolitans. Spray the sprue white. Now I initially would wash the whole model down with a thinned wash of black, then dry brush white over that and then paint over anything that looked rough with a white paint pen (it gave a much smoother finish compared to the brush) Then I realised that i could just wash the model in Vallejo Pale Grey Wash and then continue with the other colours as I saw fit. It lightly darkens the recesses but leave the main body of of the clothing looking like a dull white, which I think looks good. Its not a perfect solution, but its a fast way to paint an all white model without struggling with it.

Gave up painting on the sprue some years ago. There’s always lugs to remove afterwards and bits of moulding flash, and when you stick on the arms, huge gaps remain that need filling. By the time that’s all done, I’ve usually damaged the paintwork with my fat fingers. Find it easier to assemble the figure and hot-glue it to a plastic bottle-top before priming and painting.

Great video, just as I'm working on a Portuguese division and planning a Bavarian one. Maybe an idea for a future video, but how would you do a Kingdom of Holland army ? Maybe the Dutch -German division in Spain. Or a Dutch-Belgian one for Waterloo. Take you're time, I got other armies to do.

Great video! the thing is just that there is one major difference between saxon fusiliers and french fusiliers: saxon fusilier carried a briquet, and because of that had a second shoulder strap like grenadiers and voltigeurs. also different shako plates, but this is just a minor difference. And one last thing, the ei in Leibgarde is pronounced like the ei in Leipzig.

Does anyone know anything about the greek volunteer battalions that served under Napoleon, the Russians or the British? I know that there are some but I struggle to find any information about them, especially about those that fought under the French.

Or one could just wait till piano wargames creates superb sculpts for saxons ;) (quick sidenote the warlord games spanish are closer to saxon uniforms(still they need heads with shakos, ofc) and imho the new austrian heavy cav from the perrys is a better way to build saxon cuirassiers, for the light cav the french chasseur a cheval are pretty close)

Whereas I just spent ~£850 over 3 months with my Tax Refund - that being said it's all Perry's 1809 models and I had to hit £200 per order for free shipping to Australia. I need a new suspension on my car every time I take it somewhere haha

Much prefer the early pattern Saxon Infantry standards, but an 1812/13 Saxon army seems much more useful in terms of historical scenarios. Hmm… dilemma.
