Great timing and inspiration guys! I pulled my FFS supercharged engine over a year ago and kinda hit a wall. Since then I’ve picked up a VVT motor and gear box and have been piling up parts… but haven’t really taken the leap . Plan is NA and eventually ITB. I had and sold a set of Jenvey’s for the old motor, drove the buyers car after the install but wasn’t impressed. Stock NA 1.8 motor though… that’s what corrupted me to the boost side… but I’m back because that isn’t what the miata excels at in my experience and that includes multiple other boosted Miata’s I’ve dealt with along the way. Looking forward to the results!

Thanks! A bit of work seems to go a long way in waking up the experience. Add a six speed and I think you’ll be very pleased.

How did you like the FFS kit? Have had my eye on it for a while.
@ricepony332 жыл бұрын
@@AGregariousPOS Really depends on what you are after. The powercards leave A LOT to be desired. Full throttle is okay but part throttle and tip in are terrible. Intake temps are very high, 220F + at full boost even with water/meth. You give up a good bit of power and mainly torque by having such high intake temps. The "ecool" is just an extra injector to fill in the lack of fuel that the stock injectors can't provide, the theory they project but have no evidence to back up, is that the fuel vaporizes... like a carb... and that cools down the intake charge. Best case, you get 30 degree drop, but in reality, as tested by FM, you get nothing because typically the fuel is injected before the supercharger. The distribution of said extra fuel is also questionable at higher boost levels, cylinder 4 has been known to pop on quite a few engines (also coolant reroute related). The actual blower mounting, belt, tensioner system is excellent however. It does work, it does make power, but you are pumping a lot of heat and a lot boost to make it. A properly intercooled hotside m45 with an ecu will make more and a hotside mp62 will make substantially more. Just for reference I've owned and helped tune a few UBER charger cars from FM with the big whipple blowers, that is a proper cold side setup. If you do supercharge the car, I honestly would recommend a Rotrex or an intercooled option if you value your engine, cats and TPS's. The FFS isn't a bad setup, it is just very limited and you have to be okay with that.

Great to hear you’re doing an ITB build, looking forward to it. It does feel a bit like 95% of the internet’s Miatas are turbocharged, and while there are obviously good reasons for that, there’s definitely more room for a few all-motor builds!
@NappMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Excited to see where it goes.
@6siks2 жыл бұрын
You also forgot LS and K series swaps. ITBs are fun as shit to play with, a tad tricky to tune, but literally like the same as compared to turbo tuning. But with ITBs, you need to be more precise than with non consensual induction set ups.

I feel like I’m at the same crossroads as you with my turbo Miata. I’m curious what the outcome will be and how it will compare to a K24Z3 swap done as cheap as possible.
@NappMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
After comparing notes with Stefan's NA build I believe the overall cost is a bit less for the BP but also will make a bit less power and a lot less torque. However, we expect the BP to be a bit more fun because high strung engines always feel a bit more exciting. Time will tell.
@mr.adventure5592 жыл бұрын
Will be paying attention to your build. Have you considered the Maruha Motorsports 87mm crankshaft from Bofi Racing? My plan is to use the 87mm crankshaft with 85mm pistons (equals 1976cc), exhintake cam, 1+mm valves, a bit of P&P and ME221 ECU. Almost forgot, the Hummelink-modifcation ITB kit.
@NappMotorsports2 жыл бұрын
We have considered that crankshaft but it came out a bit late for us to add to the engine. I might build another back up bottom end and include that crank.
@ricepony332 жыл бұрын
I'm looking into the Hummelink ITB kit myself. I had the original Jenvey kit from Rev9 which was just a pile of parts that didn't line up or work at all.
@biggboysouth2 жыл бұрын
Really looking forward to this, I am currently ITB but mine is a mild build in comparison (some head work, stock cams sadly) so seeing what a full 100% build is capable of will really be exciting. I’ve been on the fence about taking the build further so this will be informative.
