I'm going to tell U, I've been natural since "06" & their wasn't much I knew about the care of Natural hair. I started going to a natural hair stylist & she was good, but she never wanted to let me know what she was putting N my hair & how I could do my own. Then the up keep of my hair started to get more expensive, because it was growing. So, I was on KZbin trying to find some1 that did there own hair & I came across your site. Watching U has helped so much its not even funny. My hair is healthier & longer & I know how to take care of it. I too the last couple of year tried store bought natural hair products. Right now my must have's R Shea Moistures Balancing Conditioner & my home made whipped Shea butter mixture & the home made hair & body oil. Thank U 4 the help U have provided to so many that needed the help. :-)

You're gorgeous. I saw the video with short hair. I'm amazed at how healthy and vibrant your hair is. Nice job. I made my own cream with Shea and my daughter recently cut her hair short but it's so kinky it's been a struggle. I will try your deep conditioner and daily moisture treatment and see how that works. I'm also going to try it on my locs. They seem dry and to be not growing. Thank you so much. This gives so much hope to us with kinky hair. This is why I loc'd my hair. And I love them. Farai🌸

Some butters aren't really shea butter but I did research on the ones I use. If I'm not mistaken Whitney orders hers online but I don't remember which site. Check out other youtubers they'll tell you were they get it from. I don't use coconut oil because I am a bit protein sensitive. A lot of people use it to seal in moisture.

Grapeseed oil is supposed to work well as a heat protectant. I've used it as I was flat ironing my hair myself and I didn't get any heat damage at all. Hair burns at around 450°. Grapeseed oil has a very high smoke point (~420°), which would allow you to use pretty high temperatures on your hair (if you really wanted to). I don't recommend high temperatures myself though.

When I straighten my hair I put a mixture of oils: olive, coconut, jojoba and shea butter. Then I use a heat protectant product like Rusk str8, Redken smooth or Chi products. Although these name brands can be expensive a little goes a long way and concentrate most of the product on the ends. Hope that helps! I've been using your yogurt idea as a deep conditioner. My hair has so much shine and moisture afterward. it's great! I always have yogurt on hand.

Tresemme thermal creations heat tamer is by far the best heat protectant! In the past I used silk elements heat protectant but it was too oily and my hair frizzed so much, I couldn't even straightened it. Tresemme heat protectant is water based and it gave my hair the best straightening. Days later I would spray tresemme (because I love the smell) and my hair remained luscious and straight. No frizz or damage. Its a miracle in a bottle haha

I use grape seed oil for my heat protectant. Also, I read an article saying that food items used as deep conditioners really have no positive effect on hair because the molecules are too large to penetrate the hair shaft. Have you ever heard that Whitney?

To get the "sudsiness" lol I like to mix a little sulfate free shampoo with the clay wash. This is super moisturizing and my hair gets super clean without being striped. Also, for heat protection I like to keep it simple and use grapeseed oil. It has a very high smoke point, it's super light, odorless, you can use it to seal in moisture and it's CHEAP. Argon oil works well too. It's a more expensive but it's natural and great for your hair.

Hello Whitney! Great Intro...so that's what that mini juggling clip was about yesterday on FB! It is so thoughtful of you to think about the people who go store bought, because I sure am one of em! I do not use the same products as you but let me tell you my friend, your TIPS, TRICKS and TECHNIQUES have helped transform my hair! Being a picky eater effects what's in my fridge, so no yogurt, avocado's, banana's or eggs have touch my hair yet, so I haven't tried any of your awesome looking hair DIY's! I went off the deep end and bought some honey, no one can touch my "hair honey" but I think it might be lightening my hair, so I've slowed down on that! On the other hand, thanks to you I did buy aloe vera juice as a rinse and the 1st time I used it straight, without the water, my scalp felt so clean, it was amazing! I've noticed shinier hair, but I also do ICE COLD water hair rinses, btw you, me and whoever else reads this, I over did it one time and got brain freeze! "YES" coconut oil is my favorite product, I will always use that! Oh yeah your homemade shea butter cream, I really, really want to try that I just need to use up my store bought butters first! I knew the flaxseed gel was coming! My first reaction to your flaxseed gel was "Eew, icky, yuck, yuck!" so I avoided it for a while, but after re-watching a few of your video's and noticing the amazing moisture, hold and curl definition I said " Hey, I've got to give this slime a try!" SO GLAD I DID! Flaxseed gel is my new friend, it has completely changed the way I thought my hair can look and feel! The shine and definition that was on my hair after using that stuff was AMAZING and the moisture was sealed into my hair for like 3 days! Now I'm a store "boughter-buyer" so I use SM Curling Souffle Hibiscus Coconut Flaxseed gel(I know that's long!) but think it still gives me great and similar results! Oh the boiling time changes the hold (learned something new!), thanks for that tip now I have to make my own because I have noticed since it's warmer outside I don't get the same hold as in the winter time, thank you ma'm! Control paste, check and Jane Carter Wrap Lotion, check, I'm throwing those onto my Hair-to-do and try list...when my edges get out of control I sometimes use Shima's Hairline Crème, it gives you a real soft natural looking hold. I've never roller set and I've got the flexi-rods and perm rods but I been looking into what setting lotion would be the best so I don't waste my time! You YT ladies could easily turn me into a product junkie but I'm not giving in! This is definitely a helpful video, some things I kinda forgot I wanted to try and you just refreshed my memory! 2 THUMBS UP for the video and for you FABULOUS hair you got going on! Thanks for sharing and have a GREAT day!

HEY! was wondering, how did you do your hair in this video? I know it's probably one of your regular twist outs, but did you do this on dry hair? Did you use one of your heating tools to stretch it first? All of your twist outs look good but this one in particular looks GREAT! Idk, it's just a very lightweight, natural, carefree flow to your hair in this video. I'd really like to know how you achieved this particular twist out (:

One thing that works for me in keeping my hair dry and frizz free is my hand crafted Shea butter. It isn't a cream its sort of a solid and a little goes a long way. I find in using this my braid outs stay fairly descent. The most that happens is the curls will soften and weigh down slightly but the hair stays soft and defined. I got it from whole foods and the brand is alaffia. Love your hair by the way. I cant wait to make my own hair ties I have 20 yds...lol.

You are stunning! And your hair is just as beautiful as ever. I've been trying to get my hands on the Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle conditioner. I need something with great slip and something that is creamy/thick. I've tried aubrey organics..hated it. Tresseme naturals..hated it. VO5..hated it. The only thing that was perfect was the Aussie Moist conditioner. Such great slip and sooooo creamy. But I *think* it has some cones in it that I heard weren't good? Idk! But yeah gonna try Trader Joes out for sure.

I've been using Creme of Nature perfect 7 with argan oil. It's a 7 n 1 leave in. I've been using it for about a month and I so far really like it. I wear mostly wash n go and I always diffuse my hair on low w/ medium heat to about 85-90 percent dry simply because I've noticed that for some reason in the Arizona heat if I let it air dry it's super frizzy.

This is great! I do a lot of DIY products, but like you say, you don't always have time to make your own!

For my roller sets I love the Creme of Nature Argan Oil, it's very moisturizing as it goes on and has a great hold when dry, no flakes and it smells amazing!!...although I'm not so sure about all of the ingredients

Gorgeous hair! Amazing how your hair looks like mine but responds to such light products, except for the Shea butter. I must have the ultimate coarse hair.

Have you thought about using refined coconut oil as a heat protectant? It has a high smoke point and since its an oil, as long as you do not OD on the stuff your hair should not revert. Also, it appeals to your more holistic sensibilities. Worth a try.

I love your videos. Wish you had a website so I could print out the recipes. I just started my journey and it has been a challenge. Thank you for explaining each product purpose. I was totally confused while shopping before watching this.

There's a brand of aloe vera called George's Aloe Vera that you don't have to refrigerate and keeps for a year or longer. It's a proprietary formula so they don't share what gives it such a long shelf life but it was recommended to me by an herbalist and I've heard many people rave about it. I can get it at health food stores on the ground but it's also available on amazon.
