I moisturize my hair once a week using only 4 products: Water, leave in conditioner, a water-based cream, and good old Blue Magic hair grease (blue jar) lol. In my opinion, grease is the best way to seal in moisture. I've experienced less shedding and hair breakage and don't have to moisturize my hair everyday (thank goodness because I'm lazy lol)

Practically everyone recommends coconut oil for natural hair but if you notice your hair is dry after using it, it probably isn't for you. I've being natural for 6 months and it took me way too long to realise the coconut oil was causing my hair to feel dry. My hair prefers the thicker stuff like Shea butter and castor oil. Like I said a lot of KZbinrs love coconut oil but it's definitely not for everyone!

QUESTION: I haven't shampoo in a long time and I want to change back to using the mud wash because it helped a lot, but my hair is medium length, which makes it dificult to deal with. What would you recommend about the detox process at the beginning of using the terresentials mud wash? Or what other ways can I wash my scalp besides using baking soda (strong rumor that it dryes hair over the time) #Help
@Naptural85
@Naptural85 10 жыл бұрын
Hey OHichez ! With the mud wash, you don't need to do that detox process. I never did and was totally fine. You can also cleanse your scalp with conditioner. Just apply it like shampoo and massage it into your scalp. There are also "cleansing" conditioners but I suspect it' the same as a regular conditioner

I have verrry thick hair, but it hates heavy butters. It prefers something extremely light. So I made my own butter/cream that's very light, with cupuacu butter, Aloe Vera butter, coconut oil, castor oil, and babassu oil. If any of you out there have hair like mine, and you want to try it for yourself, go pick up those things online, make it and see if it works for you! :D

Hi 👋🏾 Just chiming in on your conversation... Water by itself may be drying to hair especially if it's hard water... calcium and minerals and overall gunk in our water... try distilled water... detox hair with bentonite and rhassoul clay mixtures enhanced with olive oil, grape seed oil ... I know you said it's your coworker but perhaps you can share these tips with her and see how it works for her. Hoping it helps.😍

It's not that natural hair is always dry, it's just that it need water everyday (or every other day). Our hair is actually like a plant. Would you say that a plant is naturally dry? No, but it's just that plants need water everyday (or every other day) in order to sustain themselves. They need to be watered regularly, or they will wither away. Same thing with out hair! It is a plant that needs water regularly.

I spent a couple of weeks with a curly, wrapped updo because I wasn't at home with my usual products and didn't really know what to do. I just sprayed water on it with a bottle everyday and sometimes applied Vaseline which I usually hate to use, and redid the twists and was good to go. After a few weeks of that, I washed my hair. Of course, the Vaseline took a few washes to remove. But when I got out of the shower and looked in the mirror, what a difference! I had always underestimated the power of just water and I had always been drawn away from Vaseline, I thought it was actually bad for your hair. But I guess that daily moisture and the occasional Vaseline to seal and not really over stressing my hair just made it... FANTASTICALLY moisturizerized. My hair feels thick and full and soft and just retains moisture like it never has. I will continue to moisturizerize and seal in conjunction with my new flexi rod regimen. I'm gonna be trying that out this week. But yea, my gosh, water is so good for your hair! Especially sealed. Who knew, lol.

i found out my hair was dry because my body was starved for nutrients. Had to change my diet as natural hair will clearly reflect what's going on in the body. It's important (even more so if you are very deficient) to nourish the hair from the inside and out. My focus is not my hair but my health but of course healthy hair reflects a healthy body.

I was using different oils for a couple of months, as oil-treatments and using them as leave-in-treatments, but I still felt my hair was dry (my hair is scandinavian, pretty straight, dry and has split ends) no matter how much oil I used! But then I tried this method, the moisture + sealant, and now I can actually feel and see a difference, and my hair has grown suprisingly much (since my ends aren't dry and don't break off as much now that my hair is moisturised). My hair can, of course, look a bit oily afterwards, because of my light/straight hairtexture, but I don't mind at all! :)

Maybe the oils you are using are too heavy for your hair. Try Jojoba oil. It is super light weight and still seals in moisture. I have super thick hair so I stopped using Jojoba because I need something much heavier such as castor oil and Shea butter.

And water is AMAZING! its my bf when I need some moisture. You really just need to take the time to brush it through your hair and spruce it in. But don't forget to moisture regularly and seal any water moisture.

This may not apply to everyone but I have faithfully moisturized my for m entire natural hair journey(2 years) and my hair was still dry brittle and breaking off at the ends as a result. Now what I discovered is that shampoo and conditioner matters to! I was using Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Shampoo or the Yucca and Baobab, V05 Coconut conditioner, and Tressemme Naturals Conditioner and after using those products my hair was dry. Moisturizing didn't really help much. So I switched to Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner and Pantene Cowash.....HUGE, HUGE difference in the moisture of my hair. Wish I'd have found this out sooner.

My hair is very curly, kinky when dry and the wash and go just doesn't work for me, but that's probably because I don't keep it trimmed - I have yet to find some one who just wants to cut it all off. Is it possible, that you some people don't need to moisturize everyday? Because I feel like I can go 2-3 days and my hair will be fine. When I tried to do that(mosturize every day), my hair would end up frizzing up and feeling more drier than normal? I have to use shea butter and flax seed gel to seal in my moisture and I am 3C. I guess ill give it whirl again!
@ariamonsoon7510

I completely agree. I don't moisturize my hair every single day because it will frizz up and get weighed down. I have low porosity hair and I don't need to moisturize everyday because my hair retains moisture well for 2-3 days. So if you don't need to moisturize your hair every day, then I wouldn't do it because then you could risk over moisturizing your hair, which is bad :)

Hey JaySymonLee Just keep doing whatever's working for you! I put "daily" in quotations because I used to do the water and butter application daily, but found it unnecessary after awhile. Now I only use it as needed! Some weeks it's daily, so weeks it's every other day, sometimes it's once a week! Just depends on the weather and my activity, so do what's right for you!

+naarahformusic Try leaving it in a bun / ponytail, then getting an applicator bottle / dropper and a spray bottle of water. Use the water to spray your hair and the bun and use the dropper to get on the inside. Run it through your scalp (in the direction the hair is going) and then squeeze some inside of your bun. i just came up with that lol. I had to visualize it. Maybe that will help?

I don't fully agree with the idea of "coilier hair, heavier sealant". Or maybe I'm just the excption to the rule. My hair is somewhere around 4b/c but I also have low porosity hair and even with a dime-size amount of shea butter, it still feels greasy and weighed down. The one sealant I have seen that seals in the moisture and does not weigh my hair down is Avocado Oil.

I know what you mean. My hair is multi-textured - with 2c, 3c and 4a - and has low porosity. Although my curl pattern is tight, if anything remotely dense touches my hair, all I get is crunchy, hard hair without any curl pattern. I've been natural since last year August, and I'm yet to find anything that moisturises my hair well, and complements my curls.

She suggested that coilier textures may want to start at the heavier oils and then work your way down as appropriate. I have low porosity 4b/c hair. I started off with shea butter but had to be very light with it in order to use. I cannot use coconut oil or castor oil at all but I have had better success with jojoba butter and avocado butter used lightly to seal. Also my steamer is my best friend!!

How do you moisturize your hair without making it feel greasy/oily from the oil sealant? I do a braid out on my hair every night after I moisturize and seal. But after I take it out the next day, it's always greasy when I touch it and stays that way allllll day. How do I get my hair to be moisturized without the greasiness!

+Chelsea B You would end up having to find a different oil. Idk what oil you use, but if you don't already, try OLIVE OIL (EXTRA VIRGIN) It's probably the lightest oil. I notice that when I mix it with water that I don't get that nasty goopy feeling, it's so light and smooth. It doesn't make me feel like I can't touch anything afterwards. Use just olive oil and water and you'll be good. My hair is suuuuuuper dry but I've been doing the greenhouse method with nothing but water and olive oil and when I take off the cap and my hair dries, my hair feels so moist (of course when I touch it I get oil on my hands lol). But it feels really good.

Thank you! I live in Mass as well. As you know we had a horrific winter. I feel kinda dumb now. Clearly the dry air is drying my hair out and I need to put it back daily. The olive oil wasn't working in the back of head where my curls are tighter. My BFF made me 3 jars of Shea butter mix so I'm good to go!

Hey naptural85 I have been natural for 3years and I have tried everything the protective styling,moisturizing, deep conditioning, and co washing and protein treatment. Nothing seems to be working, my hair is only 6inch, 7, 8 and in layers and I am just fed up with it no growth and it's always breaking off and my hair is very pourous.

Yup i just started doing this method too! I mix water and aloe vera juice together, section my hair and spray it on thoroughly. Then I seal with my Camile Rose almond jai twisting butter along with adding castor oil to the ends of my hair. I'll repeat this every other day until wash day.

Please help me understand this natural hair thing. I am in information overload & I'm confused. Love your videos :)

I want to thank you so much for this video. I went natural in 2016.. hair fell out. Now in 20/20. I never heard anyone EXPLAIN in detail like you just did. My hair has been dry for so long and I never kept it moisturized daily. I always let it get dessert dry. I will do as you suggested. My sister kept telling me to stop using perm. Now that I'm natural it feels good. 😊

Thank you soooo much for your helpful tutorials. It had helped me greatly to be natural and free. My hair texture is like a 4b/4c. I went from being told I have centrifugal alopecia and that it is progressive to the 3 bald patches growing in healthy, thick and strong. To God be glory. I wore 2 wigs from November-June. I did the big chop in November. I've been taking hairfinity, biotin 5000mg, zinc, vitamin D3 2000mg & fish oil. My external regimen for my hair has included aloe vera juice & water along with your mixture of recommended oils and shea butter. I also cowash sometimes twice a week because I run and work out now. Thank you for helping a sista to understand and appreciate that our hair needs tender loving care like you would do with a plant or any other living being. Most importantly. ..I thank God. You are a an asset. Appreciatively, Dlivnlife

How do I know if a sealant is working for me? I have dense, mostly 4A/4B hair but my hairs are very fine so I'm never really sure if I should go towards the heavier oils & conditioners or the lighter oils & conditioners. I've found that a deep conditioner that's light but not too light is better for my hair. I've been natural for 3 years now and I feel like I still can't figure this out. PLEASE HELP.!

Personally, if I just mist my hair with water daily, my ends would clump up and be gummy. So I use a water-base product to lightly mist my hair daily and seal with (non-virgin) coconut oil. Caster oil and shea butter are typically too dense/heavy for my hair type which is the coarser 3/4 type. Thanks for the video.
