I also think “vulnerable narcissist” shares many traits with CPTSD and even borderline personality disorder because all these 3 on my opinion are responses and maladaptive coping mechanisms developed from childhood trauma. Likely the “grandiose” narcissists were over praised for who they were from a young age forming this “love” for them self. If you were always told how great you looked and great you were then it’s not surprising that you would develop high self esteem. And people like this make people feel very uncomfortable especially when they treat people like they are above them. It’s nice to see someone talk about narcissism without sounding like they’re inhuman. Not everyone who hurts people are narcissists. Many people who abuse people are not narcissists. Many people who are selfish at times are not narcissists. The term is way over used these days and almost who hurts someone is called a narcissist. If this wasn’t the case I think more people would maybe reach out for help with the else traits. But I believe people don’t because there is so much negativity around it which doesn’t help society as a whole

A lot of people who dealt with people with NPD and BPD say in fact that they now believe that Borderline isn't really a separate disorder but that all Cluster B disorders seem to be a spectrum of the same thing. As such, they claim that a lot of BPD cases are labeled "vulnerable narcissists".

I'd not put an equal sign between ego injury and vulnerability / low self esteem. All narcissists suffer ego injuries and their reactions to it will vary depending on the type of narcissism. Extraversion / neuroticism and high / low self esteem occur in different presentations of narcissism. But the core of narcissism is a broken ego (weak sense of self) which is very prone to ego injuries leading to all narcissistic presentations. I agree with the notion of not dehumanising narcissistic people, narcissism can have different grades and not everyone is directly a person from hell. However, this personality style not being liked happens for a reason as narcissists are mostly abusive, not always in visible ways (gaslighting). If I'd have the choice between interacting with a narcissist and a non-narcissist, I'd go for the non-narcissist as it would save me conflict and interpersonal difficulties. To handle narcissists you need to have strong personal boundaries and also a sense of manipulativeness in some instances to circumvent their manipulation and even then you must be prepared to fail. It's rarely a win situation for the amount of effort coming from your side. But everyone has a choice and what works for me may not necessarily work for you.

This makes me realize how silly the official term is... so your insecure and emotional and your a narcissist.... ok... who doesn't hide they're vulnerability, thats like a cultural standard, and patients with bipolar experience many of these behaviors too

This makes me think that out of all people I know the most narcisstic person is me, but that is illogical! If I was one, then I wouldn't admit it? Right?

How many of them actually try to get help ? More often than not they are court ordered into therapy .

Could also be to do with the fact that they are looked down on and there isn’t actually much help or compassion towards narcissists
