Narcissist : I Need to Warn the Next Victim

People we both knew alluded to his behavior. I didn't see it for myself. When he attacked me, I got out and stayed out and kept my mouth shut for my own safety. He returned often, and I played dead. I changed my number and went no contact. He finally stopped after years of returning, sitting outside my home. It's not my job to tell people what he is. They won't believe me anyway. He's a greater and knows what he's doing. He's very successful and manipulating and calculating. He will wait years to do what he wants to you,per his planning, and you never see it coming. He's a dangerous, very intelligent, successful man. I got out, kept my mouth shut, and moved on. HGs work helped immensly in dealing with the trauma of his machinations. Thank you, HG, from the bottom of my heart. ❤

I accidentally found my husband and his next victim in a clandestine meeting. I warned her with one sentence. ‘Do you think you are the first, do you? That was 32 years ago after 15 miserable years of marriage. She found out, years after she married him, and by the stricken look on her face, I knew she wouldn’t forget what I said. He went onto more marriages after her, he is a busy narcissist. What I have learned from HG I wish I had known when I was young.

I completely agree with your insightful analysis HG ❤, even though it would be nice if things were different. It is only when motivation arises - often through pain, betrayal, or repeated disappointments - that the veil is lifted, and the 'victim' chooses to see the truth. In other words: One must be motivated to see reality - and very few are...

You can’t warn anyone bc they don’t believe you. They have to find out themselves. I tried to warn a friend who thought the confusion was “exciting” only to realize she would be in a full blown nightmare a few years later when she was stuck in an abusive marriage now with kids.

Everyone in my family (both sides) knows about my brother and his behavior. We've all had to deal with his reign of terror in the past. Both of our parents and grandparents are gone. Uncles aunts and cousins do not contact him. I am no longer in contact with him because I don't want to be hoovered by him for any favors or for money. Even though he is in a convalescent home, he can't drive anymore, I don't want to take any chances with his volatile temper and demands.

They don't listen. They try to make it work no matter what's done and said. It took my friend 20 years to leave. I told her for well over a decade, she stayed anyway. Now she's free, Now divorcing him, finally.

Cognitive dissonance would probably take hold. It depends on the circumstances, but their emotional addiction would fight to stay with the narcissist most likely. "Change comes from within" as 'they' say.

It's absolutely evil how these people can fool people. I CERTAINLY be on guard if _anyone_ ever tried to stop me listening to someone giving a warning. *Run a mile.*
