Wow! A vegan recipe just in time for my 4 week plant based diet 😁 I didn’t get time to make the beef and veg stew for my parents last week so I made it today and told them I’d take it to them tomorrow. However, there was a problem,. My husband couldn’t stop eating it so the whole lot is gone and my husband is now fast asleep on the sofa snoring loudly while I watch you make bread and leek and potato soup. I made it in my slow cooker on the high setting and left it all day while we were out. The smell was lovely when we got home and it was delicious. I didn’t need to thicken it because it was lovely and thick with veg already. So it’s this soup tomorrow 😋 thanks.
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
Haha, well it’s good to know it was so yummy he couldn’t stop eating it! Well done! You’ll just have to make another batch for your parents and not tell your husband 😉 Both the bread and the soup are really easy to make, we have them both quite often - especially the bread while out cruising!

My leek and potato soup is made a little different. I use 3 leeks and 3 potatoes. I boil my leeks and potatoes in chicken stock until tender. Then puree them and put back in pot. Add a pint of heavy whipping cream. Cook on low fire for few minutes then salt and pepper to taste. Everyone I share it with asked for more. It's good hot or cold. You know that it's vichyssoise. Like your show. Crain Blanchard.

Great vlog. I just finished making bread and soup. Soup was split pea, modelled on Dutch Ertwen soup. with onion, leek and carrot, plus sliced keilbasa instead of a ham bone. Have a leek left over, so will make your soup next. Loved that dough boy thingy. I use a bread machine ($10 from a thrift store) so it only rises once, and I suspect the second rise would be beneficial. The macjhne makes OK bread, but the texture of yours looked much more interesting., and the crust sounded much better. Maybe I'll use the machine to mix and knead the dough, then remove and proof in a bowl, than bake in the oven.Any suggestions?
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
Love homemade bread! So easy to make too. We’ve never used a bread maker before, but I’d imagine the oven would help with giving the bread the crusty texture on the outside. Would be worth a try mixing in the machine and then cooking in the oven.

Lovely recipe... Learning a lot from thee twain. Was mighty surprised.. but you make it look easier than Jamie Oliver...and the recipes work too. ( and you have a smaller film crew and dishwashing support unit !) We specially loved the glib...cool dude. . nonchalant look away technique of...I can chop veggies without even looking. Scary! FYI : Made your great beefy stew at the weekend and twas brill. Just whizzed the veggies from this recipe, but my hand zapper is evidently not up the speed or power of yours. It's German and not Ausie so that's probably why. Took an age...but got there. So... What were you previous "day jobs" then...we thought you were just travelling master chefs. Ta for the tasty treats..and..well.. "Hubby and Mrs cookery" is such great fun...not seen since Fanny & Johnny Craddock of the 1960s ... very good telly...ta!
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
Very pleased to hear that they are easy to follow and tasty too! He’s very good at chopping veggies without looking - lots of practice! We both worked in a hotel reception for just under two years most recently, but before that, we were both chefs in kitchens - it’s hard work though, so we were quite happy to transition to the relatively “cushy” job of receptionists. Thanks a lot for the kind words, it’s very nice to hear that you are enjoying the videos - motivates us to keep making them as they are quite time consuming! 😊

So, half a drizzle is a driz. Sounds like a top measure. Gordon, Jamie, Michel.......take note. 1 driz = 2 drops, 1drizl = 3 drops, 1 drizzle = any measure of water you deem necessary. What could possibly go wrong. Seriously guys, lovely P&L soup with fresh bread. What's not to like. I think that 1/2 teaspoon of sugar or honey (disolved in water) would greatly improve your bread. I make a fresh loaf every second day. An electric carving knife is a godsend for fresh soft bread.
