Yes, a completely stupid concept, they could've done Boruto Kara Arc instead of Special Story, and called it Storm 5. The only explanation that I have, is that they really want to go big for Storm 5, like maybe going back to an open world format like Storm 1, and they needed this game as a stopgap for the 20th Anniversary celebration.

If you bought Storm 4 on release you have no reason not to buy this one. This is everything storm 4 had to offer on launch including all the 20-30 dollars worth of dlc characters that came later. You cant compare a Full 3 years of updates Storm 4 content wise to launch Connections. Storm 4 was $50 on launch (not including what that would be equivalent to today factoring inflation) not to mention Road to Boruto was a $20 dlc, and you had Gaara and Shikamaru's tale which were 10 bucks a piece and then finally you got TWO characters for $8. Overtime you paid upwards of 100 dollars for Storm 4 and the only reason you are getting bargain deals is due to value drop over time. Connections gives you every single DLC character you paid for in 4, while recapping the story in a much more digestible format (Storm 4 didnt do that) Then its also giving you a wholy new and unique Story that isnt adapted from the anime with its own new characters. On top of that you are getting at least 10 new characters, several new Team Ultimate Jutsu, a revamped Customization system, updated game mechanics while also having the crisp new gen graphics as well. Its well worth $60 as it is, and its going to get updates and DLC just like Storm 4 did as well if not even more.

My theory: Cyberconnect tests each system with a side Storm game (Generations, Revolution and now Connections) filled with old mechanics from the main series but had mini game/new fight mechanics to see how fans will like and hate things to improve the next game (Hell it's obvious now look at the surveys) then they focus on the main title 2 years later. PS3: Generations: February 23, 2012 Storm 3: March 5th, 2013 PS4: Revolution: September 11, 2014 Storm 4: February 4, 2016 And now we have Connections: November 17, 2023 so I see a Storm 5 coming 2025/26.

As someone who has played these games with my friends since Ultimate Ninja Storm 2... the flow of the combat in this game feels so broken, chakra recovers way to fast meaning there is no strategy to how you use the resource anymore, they've removed flick moves and rebranded them pretending they've done any work and in the process removed chakra shurikens. You get caught in a combo without substitutions once... You've lost the match to an infinitely looping combo, at least I had *Some* hope before. I wish instead of porting all the flick moves to be the second Jutsus they left it as is and just actually gave the characters second jutsus, even if it's recycled fireball jutsu or something along those lines that would've been better. And if they wanted to steal the chakra+shuriken input for second jutsus, couldn't they have just changed it to a hold input instead of removing it from the game. All they needed to do was take storm 4 and add more characters and story, instead they were actively reductive removing features and characters. They sparsely added new characters so they could sell the rest off in a predatory season pass... more than disappointed.

The audio mixing stuff I noticed immediately. The stereo panning and placement is completely different during the Ultimate Jutsu. In Storm 4 the Almighty Scream had Naruto and Sasuke hard panned to the sides to create a stereo distance, and in this they're both dead centre mono.

I think that issue persists since the very first Ultimate Ninja STORM (not as noticeable as in STORM 4, I believe), if I'm not mistaken, because I've always noticed (especially when playing without headphones) that the audio mixing is horrendous - sometimes it's too loud, other times it's too quiet, and every now and then the audio either gets cut, becomes mute or plays in the wrong speaker, I feel like. There's something extremely wrong about the audio mixing in this series - it's unbelievable no one ever bothered to fix it and kept releasing the same game with broken audio mixing over and over again.

History mode feels like something they planned to do fully in development, like they originally planned to have everything in there given from how the opening of the game is like (you can't even play half of those boss fights anyway) it's almost like they planned to have everything from the previous games into one but didn't have time and just kinda did a quick sideshow. The encyclopedia in the game is also impressive, including characters birthdays, height, what kinds of Justus does what and by who used them in the anime/manga.... Although some of it is missing like I don't see they have kakashi listed as a Justu user for shadow clones even though he clearly used it in the land of mist ark.....

In storm 4, I tried to manage the fact they completely removed the blood splashes in the gameplay and replaced them with unnecessary explosions and also the fact that the places that where went to be pure black, had tints of purple, like sasuke and itachi’s Amaterasu and Naruto’s Sixpaths mode truth seeker orbs. I wouldn't say the voice acting was delivered poorly, I'd say the voice direction was done with mediocrity as its goal. It seems to me as if the lines were dubbed without context so the actors didn't know what feel to give the lines, rather than the actors don't know how to act. Would say the combat from connections is improved ontop of 4 and you can tell they learnt alot from demon slayer. Biggest issue is you can't even invite a friend in connections !!

Even if this game turned out okay, I still wouldn't bother. I'm just tired of the Storm series. I wasn't a big fan of them originally but I did respect the games and their great story modes, but man can we please get something else? Shinobi Striker had the right idea I think, you know a Naruto Xenoverse type game but the focus on pvp and lack of content killed that game for me. I want to see a new Clash of Ninja, a return to the Ubisoft duology, an action RPG like DBZ Kakarot, or hell just something brand new like a 2D tag fighter. Just no more Storm please. Give us something new or refreshing and come back to Storm later.

Easy enough to where I got bored and just couldn't enjoy it. The only difficulty option I ever recall was just for free battle. Is that still the case with this game? Not exactly. See, they did switch it up a bit for STORM 4. The game has a slightly new art style/colour grading and a few added post-fx applied to the Cel shading effect, it's what I mean. You can notice what I'm saying if you put any STORM game prior to STORM 4 and compare them to STORM 4; every game prior to STORM 4 had its art style designed to match more or less how the anime looked at the time (Classic to First Arcs of Shippuden) - so it had less contrast and less saturated colours so that the characters would almost always appear darker and/or faded, whereas STORM 4 had an art style closer to what newer animes such as Boruto usually look like now - they have plenty of bloom/bright luminance effects, have higher contrast between dark/bright lighting and normally have less shadows/shading applied to the characters so that they look brighter and more "vivid." That's an improvement/change I expected to see in some way for this new release, too - and considering how long it took for this game to come out, I think it's the bare minimum to at least have the art style updated like STORM 4 did when it was released. Guess they're gonna wait for that until STORM 5 comes out, apparently, when they could've done it already. @kollie79

No crossplay, no rollback netcode (and this is gonna be live service, talk about an easy win), wall fighting and jutsu clashes from storm 1 still missing, instant awakening from storm 3 still missing (wouldve really benefited some of the garbage tier characters in this huge roster), same graphics since PS3 just slightly more particles (arguably worse than storm 1 somehow?). Putting the botched story aside, they literally did nothing to fundamentally change the game or combat. Not giving them the "win" of finally adding proper combo strings in their SIXTH release of the same fighting game franchise.

If the Naruto story is important, I would say get legacy. As someone who’s a huge Storm fan, I cannot see why Connections would have anything that the OG series doesn’t offer. But you’re a fan of Boruto and it’s cast (like I am), then I’d say go for it - just be warned that the Naruto history mode in connections is real low effort.

Yeah, the fact that this game didn't add the other genin from Boruto's class other than his team and a few villains is ridiculous. Plus the history mode didn't cover ANY of Boruto's story, not even the Road to Boruto story from Storm 4. Definitely returning my collectors edition now. It was an impulse buy thinking that it would have everything from the 1st 4 games put into 1. But seeing how bare bones it is, it's pathetic, 5-6 years production for what ? Ninja council was my first Naruto game and storm generations was my favourite growing up. I remember back when storm 3 was being announced and we all wanted customization offline and online so I’m happy that they put a ton of customization options in for characters but the story mode was very upsetting they could have just cut and pasted storm legacy into the game and also the “original story” but it feels so rushed even though there has been like what 7/8 years since storm 4?

What I'm liking from gameplay videos I've been seeing is that combo crafting is much more expansive. Being able to continue your combo when your opponent is in the crumple state or that more moves, such as throws, ninjutsus, etc. result in more ground bounces make me excited to revisit older characters. It always irked me that when I hit someone with Haku's ice ninjutsu and the opponent crumples, all I could do is throw shurikens or charge my chakra during that time (If I'm wrong about this detail, I'd like to know so that I could up my game). And thankfully, regaining chakra and subs are way faster in this version. The game seems much faster overall. That being said, on the surface, the lack of fresh content and the inconsistent quality of that content makes this $60 release feel like it has poor value. Most people aren't going to care about getting all the juices out of the mechanics to justify such a high price. Hell, for those who do care, it still seems like a hard sell.

I hate having to constantly chase my opponent only for them substitute and keep running away. There is nothing to force the opponent to engage with you until they feel like it. Substitute needs a MUCH longer cool down for spamming it. But I dunno, these complaints don't matter. The devs don't give a sh- about people's opinions

I like the auto recovery in general for the sake of improving the flow of things, but yeah subs need to take a hit. And maybe for the chakra back dash to consume more chakra or travel a shorter distance. Constantly feels like I’m playing that one friend who recommends Hyrule Temple every time and just runs away when it comes down to 1v1, and their game plan is to simply wear down your patience. In general, these changes to gameplay are the most drastic the series has probably ever taken and I appreciate that. The Boruto story mode was also way more high quality than I thought it would be. A filler thing got me to feel something which is strange. Very slow first half, though.

Customization going as far as letting you chose your hair, skin tone, sex, voice, clothes as well as Justus that you unlock the more you play from leveling up your character. Yea, I've been saying this is basically a cash grab. Like in history mode, the most disappointing one ever, they cut out SO MANY boss battles in all the Storm games. Like, Kakashi Vs Zabuza was one, Naruto Vs Sasuke from Storm 3, 4th Tail Vs Orochimaru, Kages Vs Madara etc. Plus, if they have time freaking add the opening scene with the Kages and Madara(and no lie...new scene for that split sec) why NOT put it in the boss? Kakashi Vs Obito in Storm 4 should've been an ACTUAL boss fight but didn't even make it in connections either. Yet, they had the audacity to put a new scene of them fighting in the opening smh. Special story i was hoping for a QTE with Naruto and Sasuke but nope. Failed QTE isn't there as well and it's like a truly 💩 mode and laziness. Online(gameplay which i do like) is like their only saving grace smh

I haven't played a Naruto game since Storm 3. I didn't like Storm 3 that much due to a lot of characters missing, which they did get eventually in other games. But also the story had an aprupt ending, due to the anime/manga still ongoing. Storm 2 was really the last Naruto game i felt was a satisfying experience. What i'd like to see is a proper story mode. Where you walk around the areas, do side missions, mini-games, etc. Similar to Ultimate Ninja 3, Storm 1, Broken Bonds, Rise of Ninja, something along those lines. If possible from the beginning of Naruto till end of Shippuden. I don't care about Boruto but if they add in Boruto content, that'd be cool too! Some characters i feel are still missing, that i'd like they added in. Kurenai, Anko, Shizune. They were in the Ultimate Ninja games, so i think they should return in the Storm games. Also would like Zetsu, Spiral Zetzu, Kinkaku and Mangetsu. Zetsu is the only akatsuki member still not in the game and Spiral Zetsu was pretty op in the war. Kinkaku could fight alongside Ginkaku, we don't really need both since Ginkaku only used wordplay. Mangetsu could take place for all the swordsman, since he can use all their weapons. Then it'd feel like we've got all the important fights in the war arc covered. Could maybe add in Kurotsuchi and Chojiro as well, considering they become kage later and Darui is already playable. I can think of many more characters like team Dosu and so on. But these would be the most essential imo.

Like The White Fang, Fugaku Uchiha, Mito Uzumaki, Team Killer Bee, Pakura and Gari, etc. While not that important storywise, they could have great movesets in the games. Shisui was a character people barely knew about, until he was added in the games. Now he's one of the most popular.

@@beastvicious8672 Alot of those have literally never been seen fighting. We did get Indra and Ashura at launch though and they have always been hype because of the filler. People loved Shisui before the games even introducef him thanks to the Itachi Backstory. Theres dozens of featless characters they *could* add but they never really add characters into the storm games unless they are either relevant important characters or fan favorites that at least got some screen time in filler on top of some cannon scenes of them. Which perfectly describes Shisui, Indra and Ashuras inclusion. The only other character they realistically need to add is Toneri, since Storm 4 never added them despite having The Last Naruto and Sasuke as their own characters in the game Reasonably after Toneri, its Story mode specific characters like Merz and Nanashi and then they basically have to pick from the Boruto era catalog UNLESS they pick some other Shippuden Movies to make content from. Which is what I personally hope they do because Blood Prison has a bunch of dope characters and obviously Menma Hiruko and Shinno could be cool as well. But they arent cannon so idk if theyd even bother.

Characters like these would be great additions for fighting games. You're wrong on Shisui. He got into the Storm games before they animated the Itachi flashback he was in. Which was filler btw. The only reason they made the filler, was to hype up Shisui for the Storm game that he was gonna debut in. I'd read the manga and Shisui only appeared in one panel, before his trailer came out. He wasn't even a character before this. Right, Indra and Ashura was filler more or less. Neither Shisui, Indra or Ashura are important or anywhere near fan favorite characters. But they make great additions in the games. Especially becouse now we get the chance to see them in action. They've all become more popular after being added in the games. That's the point. The Storm games has plenty characters that we barely saw fight. Like: Shisui, Indra, Ashura, Iruka, Kushina, Rin and Karin. So it hasn't stopped them before. If they can add these characters, then they should also be able to add the ones i suggested. Here's my reasoning for their additions: Zetsu is an essential character, i still have no idea why he's not in the games. Also the Spiral Zetsu was extremely strong when he used Yamato's body. They could easily add in both these characters. Mangetsu like i said, would be the perfect representation of the 7 swordsman. It'd probably be a stretch to add all of them as playable. Mangetsu was almost made to be a fighting game character, to fill in for them. Kinkaku would be the only one missing among the war arc fights, that we actually watched. His brother Ginkaku could be in the combos and maybe a special attack. They added Darui so idk why they didn't just add Kinkaku as well. Kurotsuchi and Chojiro like i said become kage later. If they've got Darui in the game, surely these 2 would make sense to add as well. They've got unique abilities and we never really got justification for them becoming kage in the series. So a game could make up for that, by showing what they're capable of. Kurenai, Anko and Shizune were in previous games. Only ones still missing from the Storm games. Feels odd to have all the sensei's except Kurenai. Anko is also someone everyone likes and agrees was wasted. The games could give her some recognition, that many people want. If they were feeling generous, we could finally see her curse mark form. If the other 2 got added, Shizune is the only one left from the old games. So might as well add her. Team Dosu was a big part of the forest of death and in the preliminaries. Some people like them as much as the sound 4. Atleast Dosu and Zaku. They've definitely got enough to make a moveset on. Kin doesn't have much but it's like with Rin and Karin. If these characters can be playable, then it shouldn't be an issue to give Kin a moveset too. Team Killer Bee also had a good introduction. We were given the expectation they'd be like a new team Gaara. A team with the same age and from another village, that our cast would interact with. But this didn't really happen. Omoi is the only one we really saw fight. Kamui and Samui missed out. Kamui is also one of the parents of the Boruto cast, so she's important in a way. It'd be interesting to see these 3 actually given a moveset. Pretty sure many would like to have them in the game. Pakura and Gari has some of the coolest kekkei genkai. Sure they're not interesting characters. But like with Mangetsu, it's like they were made to be in a fighting game. They'd both be very unique within the roster. Sakumo/The White Fang, is one of the most popular characters that people want to see more of. There's been a poll on which character people want a side story on. He was among the most highly rated. No character would be more hype for a Storm game than him. Fugaku Uchiha (Sasuke's dad) was the leader of the Uchiha and had a mangekyou sharingan. Since the Uchiha are basically the sayians of the Naruto series and guaranteed to be fan favorites. It'd make sense to add him. I'd argue he makes much more sense than Shisui's addition. Lastly Mito Uzumaki. She's got so much going for her. The first hokage's wife. An Uzumaki, which we rarely see. A jinchuuriki of the 9-tails. She's got the strength of Tsunade and Sakura. It's crazy that we never got to see more of her in the series.

There's only one thing I want to complain about this game. The reward money after doing missions are so freaking low man. Usually, the Storm series are so generous in terms of reward money like thousands of Ryo. Now, with Storm Connections, they gave you like one hundred Ryo or something like that. You can only get many Ryo if you play online. Even I did not play online. The character's costume and accessories are so freaking pricey as well. In the end, I rather play Storm 4 than Storm Connection.

to be fair i saw something today apparently multiple actors from the english cast said they were told very limited info and was just given a sheet to read off. The Naruto english actor responded to a few tweets with clips of the game and she said she didn't know where the voice lines were coming from since she didn't record it that way. It sounds like they either spoke lines in small portions that got clipped together or they maybe used an AI i wouldnt' be surprised if they used an AI to hash together what they needed from previous games or re rcorded the lines and used AI to clip them together where they needed them

See what I don’t understand is there was always an in between game for the major ones, there was an inbetween game for 2-3 and 3-4 but all these games would come out 2 years apart from eachother and they rushed this SO much like they had no time. But they really did. Storm 4 came out in 2016 and shinobi striker in 2018. They had 5-7 years to make a quality game and said nope fuck that. And why did they wait so long is my question. Maybe they wanted to be able to tell more of the Boruto series since Boruto is over now. But even then. They could’ve easily put more work into this and just chose not to. Which baffles me. @@verticalgeorgiegeorge117 also, I got this game only for the improved gameplay and mechanics, the game is way better than any other storm, This game's whole focus was gameplay and not the story, they improved it vastly, remember you can now combo a grab into air combo into Justus into a ult, pick up combos, health resets every round, different Justus use different amounts of chakra, so no more spamming, NETCODE is way better, no lag at all for me and my friends, but here some pros and cons PROS: - The game feels faster and more polished, combat feels more flowy and combos are not as awkward to get off as now everyone has 2 Justus instead of tilts. - All the new characters are really good and fun to play. - Existing characters have been subtly changed to fit the new 2 Justus style but some characters have been changed, like Hashirma and feel way stronger. CONS: - Online menus are stupid - NO CROSS PLAY They said they're gonna fix the online and add more modes post launch

I dropped this game series after they turned the Substitutions into a resource rather than an equivalent to a Perfect Parry. It killed the combat's vibe because it removed the element of surprise not knowing when your opponent would use the Substitution just like how the ninjas fought in the show. Now you just bait your opponent into spending their Substitutions before you commit to a full combo and it's just not the same for me anymore.

let's be honest, the history mode is trash, and special story mode is pretty good but definitely not good enough to cover up the ugliness which is this game. Since you don't know anything about Boruto...I'd like to say something from someone actually caught up to the newest plot. Despite people's hatred, the cannon story of Boruto is actually great. The enemy are not jokes, on par or even stronger than Kaguya, the tension is high, the mystery surrounding the new evil organization is interesting, the fights are superb(even having some of the most choreographic battle), it really does feel like a continuation of the shinobi world. That is why I'm not VERY IMPRESSED that CC2 didn't include the real story of Boruto. We have almost all the characters involved in at least another very important arc of Boruto (Kara arc), why didn't they just do that!? Are they holding the real deal for Storm 5??? Because if that's the reason...and judging by how this game perform on steam...I really don't think there would be a storm 5 anymore....

Keep up the good work watching your videos gave me that nostalgia from when I was playing the Nintendo 64 or the PS2 in that era back in the day shit. I heard about this game glad you gave the review now I'll probably save me my money.👊🏼💯

This is how it should’ve went. For history mode: 1- Combine all previous story modes into one big conclusive Mode. 2- Add original game cutscenes to previous events(mostly storm 1 and first quarter of storm 4). 3- Cut the free roam. Now for original story: 1- Cut the fat. 2- have free roam similar to storm 1. Online mode: 1- Have private lobbies. 2- Add tournament mode. 3- Add endless mode, and let us decide whether to spectate or not. 4- Allow us to deny/accept Casual/Ranked matches while playing other modes. Finally local: 1- Add a 4 player battle mode( they’ve done something similar to it Revolution back in 2014 ). ---- What a disappointment.

Even worse thing is there is no friendly match. What kind of modern arena fighter games in 2023 doesn't even have a feature for players to fight with their own friends in a match !?
