Lyrics:
It ain't hard to tell, I excel, then prevail
The mic is contacted, I attract clientele
My mic check is life or death, breathin' a sniper's breath
I exhale the yellow smoke of buddha through righteous steps
Deep like The Shining, sparkle like a diamond
Sneak a Uzi on the island in my army jacket linin'
Hit the Earth like a comet-invasion!
Nas is like the Afrocentric Asian: half-man, half-amazin'
‘Cause in my physical I can express through song
Delete stress like Motrin, then extend strong
I drink Moët with Medusa, give her shotguns in Hell
From the spliff that I lift and inhale; it ain't hard to tell
The buddha monk's in your trunk, turn the bass up
Not stories by Aesop
Place your loot up, parties I shoot up
Nas, I analyze, drop a jew-el, inhale from the L
School a fool well, you feel it like Braille
It ain't hard to tell, I kick a skill, like Shaquille holds a pill
Vocabulary spills, I'm Ill plus Matic
I freak beats, slam it, like Iron Sheik
Jam like a TEC with correct techniques
So analyze me, surprise me, but can't magmatize me
Scannin' while you're plannin' ways to sabotage me
I leave 'em froze, like heroin in your nose
Nas will rock well; it ain't hard to tell
This rhythmatic explosion
Is what your frame of mind has chosen
I'll leave your brain stimulated, niggas is frozen
Speak with criminal slang, begin like a violin
End like Leviathan, it's deep? Well, let me try again
Wisdom be leakin' out my grapefruit, troop
I dominate break loops, givin' mics men-e-strual cycles
Street's disciple, I rock beats that's mega trifle
And groove even smoother than moves by Villanova
You're still a soldier, I'm like Sly Stone in Cobra
Packin' like a Rasta in the weed spot
Vocals will squeeze Glocks
MCs eavesdrop, though they need not to sneak
My poetry's deep, I never fell
Nas' raps should be locked in a cell; it ain't hard to tell

The pac, biggie, nas, snoop, dre, dmx, cube era will always be the golden age of hip hop and aside from maybe the early 2000s, no other era comes close. Even the early outkast, eminem, and jay z era can be put in there as well ngl

The problem with what you're saying, and by all accounts you are correct, but the problem is that hip hop is not set in stone. There is no orthodox way to rap, since we all believe the 90s had better rap music, which it did. But there are no laws governing how to make music. You can be a mumble rapper and illicit millions of screaming fans, because what was true back then is not true for today, and what is true today is not true for back then. Its like a river. Its always flowing, and its not frozen.

I feel you homie... I'm just a hardcore hip-hop die-hard. There's definitely a certain craft that goes into making these different types of hip-hop(trap, mumble, hyphee etc) but skill, wordplay, flow, story telling, DISTINCT STYLES, is what appeals to me. Time changes all things and hip-hop is no exception to the rule. I respect your opinion yo. VERY TRUE WHAT U SAID. Respect.

Damn Nas was young af in this video. This is why I hate it when people defend mumble rappers by giving that lame ass excuse "They're young just understand them" if Nas wrote most of Illmatic at 19 years old then that just proves age has nothing to do with it.
@Unknown-eh4ko
@Unknown-eh4ko 4 жыл бұрын
Fleezus Christ I feel like the reason behind this is because during Nas’s time and others growing up in the 90’s had to mature faster than the current generation. The reason the lyrics were more real is because it was a dangerous environment to grow up in and people who experienced it could rap about it to tell stories of their own lives. This generation has it much easier and aren’t in it to rap about the struggle or the tragedies of the streets. They’re in it for the money so they all sound the same and look the same. Face tattoos, colorful hair, repetitive mumbled lyrics. I was born in 2002 and I prefer this music over mumble rap anyday

That equals Illmatic, Doggystyle and the Chronic, reasonable doubt, all eyes on me, 36 chambers and ready to die, Harlem World being dropped..not to mention Eminem DMX Jada coming out towards the end of that span. And you cant compare today to then because every artist now is somewhat of a carbon copy of either Drake or Future ie: Designer...dam shame 10 new guys come out 5 sound like future 5 sound like Drake
