This was the last race Richard Petty and Dale Inman won together as driver and crew chief.

The previous winners right before a commercial break is kinda cool, that would be a fun thing to bring back to modern broadcasts

The debut of Racecam. After two years of using their own in-car system CBS adopted the Racecam technology from Australia after Ken Squire witnessed it in action during the 1980 Hardie Ferodo 1000 at Bathurst.

I always loved the music and the video when CBS used to close their races during the early to mid 80's.

*INFORMATION before the 1981 DAYTONA 500 (2 of 31):* • NASCAR shortened but specially narrowed the cars down in a bid to increase safety on the pitlane and also action on short tracks. As they didn't change the minimum weight, this forced teams to have plenty of ballast which they could move around to improve handling. • A total of 8 of the best 12-15 drivers changed teams in something that ended up looking like a chain reaction triggered by Darrell Waltrip wanting to get out of the #88. • The January Riverside race had 1981 and pre-1981 cars. The new cars were instantly competitive but unrelated engine issues made the old gen win one last race. • After Terry Labonte, Richard Childress, Neil Bonnet and Ricky Rudd all had a realistic shot at the win, in the end it was Bobby Allison that got the win ahead of Labonte, Earnhardt (best 1981 car), Childress and Richard Petty, who drove the #42 in a bid to improve the owner points’ status of his son's car, who got to drive the #43 until engine troubles made him retire. • In the 7-car 50-mile Busch Clash in Daytona, Darrell Waltrip dominated and got to be 1st non-points race winner in the new cars. • Bobby Allison got the 3rd pole in a row in the Daytona 500 for #28 while Darrell Waltrip got 2nd. They both won their duels but not without trouble as less than 40 cars in total completed them! • Among the non-qualifiers there were at least 3 notable names: Indycar’s Tom Sneva, Rick Wilson and Lake Speed.

(3:01:50) Geoff Bodine may have been living in Mass. in 1981, but he & his brothers, Brett & Todd, are from Chemung NY. Geoff & Brett attended Waverly High School in Waverly NY, & are my father's ex-students. Where-as Todd attended HS in the Charlotte area, as he got a job working for Geoff's Nascar team.

everybody said, that the fords were shit in 1981/1982/1983, but for me,it looked like the Nr. 21 ford was fast.
@DanArnets14926 ай бұрын
#15 and #21 were fast since the 1970s, won many races despite being the only 2 against a sea of GM products, but teams hated Fords/Mercurys for whatever reason and you never saw more than ¿7? at any race

@DanArnets14926 ай бұрын
If you're talking about late in the race, it wasn't too weird for engines to lose a cylinder and teams just refusing to park it immediately

I don't know how anyone can watch the shit they trot out as nascar today and think it can even compare to this. They absolutely ruined nascar. All these rules, stages, wtf ever..i realize things move forward and i like things updating (halos, safer barriers) but those things don't affect competition. I try and watch todays version but its just like nascar lite or something. Its so homogenized.
