If anyone who produces this channel reads this, could you upload the 1987 and 1988 Firecracker races, too? They are two of my all-time favorites. Thank you!!!

This is a great video, excellent quality. The bad part is that it's so short, and that it's an ABC production. Could you post versions of these 1980's ABC races in the future that show the entire live satellite feed?

**POINTS STANDINGS and WINS before the 1986 FIRECRACKER 400 (15 of 29):** #3 Dale Earnhardt (2252pts with 3 wins, GM) #11 Darrell Waltrip (-251 with 1 win, GM) #9 Bill Elliott (-335 with 1 win, Ford) #22 Bobby Allison (-342 with 1 win, GM) #25 Tim Richmond (-387 with 1 win, GM) #27 Rusty Wallace (-396 with 1 win, GM) #15 Ricky Rudd (-444 with 1 win, Ford) #33 Harry Gant (-464, GM) #44 Terry Labonte (-499 with 1 win, GM) #5 Geoff Bodine (-551 with 2 wins, GM) Neil Bonnet (GM #12) was 16th because of 5 crashes and 3 mechanical DNFs. The best rookie of 1985, Ken Schrader (Ford #90) was 15th after having only finished cleanly in half of the races. Meanwhile, Kyle Petty (Ford #7) won the Richmond 400 and looked to be a championship contender for a couple of months while Morgan Shepherd surprised all when he won the Atlanta 500. Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus the rookie of the year before and whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Yes, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In Daytona's case, the earlier race is the Daytona 500 while the Independence Day one is the Firecracker 400.

Decent video quality on this one. Did NASCAR not have the equivalent of NFL Films? There should be 4K versions of many of these races. If there isn't, that's a shame.

NO. There was no equivalent in auto racing to what Ed Sabol did with NFL Films. Dick Wallen and Bud Lindemann were about as close as it got. The ABC vaults probably have the deepest well of auto racing coverage. "Wide World of Sports" would feature select USAC and NASCAR events from around the mid 60's. ABC also had a "Championship Auto Racing" segment which I believe started around 1968.

@@HODIUSDUDE Thank you! I wasn't knocking anybody. I just knew the NFL had real movie footage of everything. I bet NASCAR wishes they did too. I sure do.

Exactly that aerocoupe which was nuthing more than aero dynamic Band-Aid to cover up a pisss pour design by gm should never been allowed on track. All jus to catch one man in number 9

Nascar wrote the rule book to heavily favor the chevys. Its the only reason they won anything.

@@brianbooher7318That "piss poor design" dominated in 1981, 82, 83 and 84. The "Ford's" didn't dominate in 1985. Just Bill Elliott. I guess Dan and Ernie suck as car and engine builders if they couldn't build anything that could dominate those "band aid" GM cars. Ford fans STILL live in 1985 and haven't gotten over it in 40 years

The Wide World of Sports broken coverage of the Firecracker 400 was terrible. The announcers also were not easy to listen to. Richard Petty’s 200th win in the 84 race had the misfortune of being on Wide World of Sports. Never seen a full broadcast of that race.
