Glenn Roberts' nickname of "Fireball" actually comes from him being an incredible pitcher while playing softball.

The Tim Richmond story was a bit more complicated. He missed the first 11 races in 1987 for what was referred to as "Double Pneumonia." Although he did return for 8 races that year winning 2 of them, the reason for him missing the rest of that season was a bit more tricky. The weekend of the 1987 Michigan race, he was late to qualifying after being found taking a nap. That's when NASCAR's shenanigans started. They did the drug test thing & said he failed, but in actuality he tested positive for cold medications. In actuality, Tim was using this to fight aids, not wanting to use the actual medication. After NASCAR admitted that their drug test was flawed, they said they could allow Tim to come back *IF* he provided medical records. Knowing this would mean him having aids would be made public, Richmond gave up & never attempted to race again. It was only after his death in 1989 that him having aids was revealed.

@@dang5553 You really missed the point. The entirety of 2015 was a train wreck start to finish. It wasn't just the Kyle Busch stuff. That was just the icing on the cake. All NASCAR did in 2015 was stick it to real racing fans & flat out tell us that we don't matter. It was the absolute worst season in the modern era & it's not even close. If the off-track stuff of 2009 were even worse than they were, it would be the only year that could top it.

2015 was the 750 package. That was the only change from 14. 2014 had new points system are current one. I never saw a change. Being a Bill Elliott fan from 07-09 I didn’t watch that much of NASCAR

from what I remember fireball contracted pnumomia after the crash. about 2 or 3 weeks after the crash he had recovered very well up until the point he contracted it

15:46 Kinda interesting about the somewhat mutual relationship between NASCAR and college football. The attendance record for any college football game to this day is still the Battle at Bristol, a football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech that took place at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 10, 2016. Likewise, the LA Coliseum, where this season's clash race took place, is the home stadium of the USC Trojans, one of the biggest names in college football.

I think the NASCAR KZbinr thing is something to do with some network accusing a KZbinr of asking "unprofessional" questions at a presser at Las Vegas in 2017 or 2018. I'm not entirely sure, I just remember hearing something about it in one of SlapShoes' videos

14:19 I'll have to correct you right there. It was actually Martinsville Speedway where the plane was going up to. The plane carried key personnel, Hendrick's family, pilots, and even Tony Stewart's helicopter pilot, and crashed at Bull Mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.

I remember seeing my dad come up from the basement shower and standing there watching finding out about Dalrw SR. hair still wet and he started crying, also the only race ive ever been to was the Busch race where JR. raced the #3 wrangler car and happened win as well, obviously seen the 500 the following day.

I like Cars and Talladega Nights but Days Of Thunder is hands down my most favorite NASCAR movie because it shows how it is to be a new young driver just entering the cup series and takes places in one of NASCAR's most exiting eras. I even have a 1 64 scale diecast of Russ Wheeler's #18 Hardee's car and made a custom diecast of a throwback to that car that B.J. McLeod ran at Darlington in 2018

The wreck at the 1990 Pepsi 400 also led to a rule change. Hendrick cars qualified 1 and 2, but had to change engines, I believe because they were illegal. The cars could not get up to speed fast enough and caused the big wreck. Following that race, if a team changed the engine, they had to go to the rear of the field. Alan did his victory lap backwards as a way to celebrate with the fans. Sometimes, the Start & Park teams would go to races without an over the wall crew. Thad Moffit has competed in the truck series, and is also the grandson of Richard Petty. There is an ESPN 30 on 30 about Tim Richmond that is very good. My two favorite Smokey Yunick stories are the car with gas lines that were so long, after NASCAR pulled the gas tank he was able to drive the car back to the shop...without the tank. The other one, he shrunk a Chevelle down and it was barely noticeable and that led to NASCAR using templates. Bristol has had some crazy wrecks, one was Michael Waltrip, and another was Rusty Wallace. Rusty almost died, but was saved by pit reporter Dr. Jerry Punch.

The big thing with Smokey's Chevelle wasn't just that it was a slightly smaller scale. It *failed* inspection from NASCAR's Chevelle template, so he told them their template was wrong and to check a Chevelle in the parking lot. It was his Chevelle. That he planted. That was the same slightly smaller scale. Also, he used to put an inflated basketball in the fuel tank, so that when NASCAR measured his tank capacity, it was the "correct" amount. He'd then deflate and remove it, giving the car another gallon or so of fuel. When NASCAR regulated the size of the fuel tank in the car, he built a fuel line that was 11' long and 2" in diameter because there were no requirements for fuel lines. NASCAR then regulated fuel lines. Dr. Jerry Punch (he is a medical doctor with an MD, and worked as an emergency physician, so it's not a nickname) saved quite a few drivers and crew members in his time as the pit reporter.

Why is Kyle Busch the only driver where his total wins are used to compare him to other drivers. They don't count minor league wins in any other sport. If you sent a major league hitter down to the minors, his stats would skyrocket. It means nothing except Kyle got to drive top of the line equipment, mostly against lessor drivers and equipment. He's a great driver, he doesn't need misleading stats to prove that.

The people were more upset towards NASCAR regarding the Talladega rope, not Bubba Wallace. People got irate at Bubba Wallace when he appeared on the extremely controversial, offensive, & racist program called "The Don Lemon Show" multiple times that week. Only after quotes against certain fans & subsequent things Bubba has said since that are deemed racist did multiple people turn on Bubba, especially after NASCAR had never suspended him for his exposed racism (On top of Denny Hamlin for a completely different situation).

I'm just curious how many people out there actually like the staged racing. Just my opinion i think they should do away with it. Just go back to the way it was. They drop the green flag and the racing don't stop until the checkered flag. The only time the drivers should slow down is when there pitting or when there's a yellow flag.
