You never know about some people. I worked with Gene (the bass player) for almost a year in the aviation business before I even realized he played a musical instrument. He just seemed like one of the regular guys around the hangar whom I used to joke with. He gave me a CD of the band one evening. I wasn't a fan of "Hick" music at that time so I kind of stashed the disc away for a while. But after a few weeks I finally put two and two together and realized the NBB was quite famous. And I also became a big fan of their music. They seemed to play it better than others... All that was in 1992. I still have and play that CD today in 2019.

Yes, they are awesome. used to hang out with Alan when I was trying to learn the fiddle. What a nice man, a truly gifted musician. I don't think I truly knew how good he was, we went to the Station Inn every Saturday night after it first opened, and it's still there. He introduced me to Kenny Baker and Bill and James Monroe and a whole lot more great musicians. Alas, I never became one, and settled into being an amateur ukulele player. Then I learned that Peter Rowan started on the ukulele.

I typed "Blue Train" into the search bar. I was looking for the John Coltraine recording. When this came up in the search results, I thought I'd give it a listen. I'm glad I did. Shawn R., Mo-Mutt Music (and lover of bluegrass music)
