Me, but I think this race will be as exciting as a typical Dover race, meaning 267 laps of follow the leader and maybe a decent race late because of a final restart. This track is probably more boring than Kentucky Speedway as you could only run about 2 wide and it never produced a ton of passing as I recall.

I used to love watching qualifying for the spring race here. It was always cold (Usually in the 30's) as they did qualifying in the morning day of show (usually the Saturday before Easter if my memory serves me correctly). Lots of spins and guys hustling wicked loose cars. Made for some entertaining morning action!

Nashville makes sense for NASCAR. Of all the major markets, it is one which embraces stock car racing, given its rich heritage with the Fairgrounds Speedway, Marty Robbins, The Marlins, Bobby Hamilton (RIP), Darrell Waltrip, just to name a few. One concern could be changing demographics. I was near the Superspeedway a couple of weeks ago, in Murfreesboro. Nashville and Middle Tennessee has changed so much from the first time I went there 30 years ago and is still growing! Many areas that were farm land or rural communities now have major retail, industry, 4-lane highways and housing developments. Being an East Tennessee feller, it felt like I was in another state!

It's not often I can watch these abandoned speedway videos and say there's going to be racing back but nashville wanted racing again and boy are they getting it!

They are ridiculous (people saying the intro is too long). The intro did the job an intro was supposed to do. It had me hooked. I thought this was the best video you've ever made. The quality and editing was precise. Couldn't have asked for a better video done on the history of the once great Nashville Superspeedway. I still remember watching KB destroy that guitar and I was mad for that. Fantastic production Danny!

The opening could be trimmed down. For instance the pickup truck pulling to a stop and sitting there dragged. People don't have the attention span these days. If you want evidence, check out the original "Nutty Professor" with Jerry Lewis. It sits on a joke forever. Sesame Street made us all A.D.D. In editing and production the term is called "kill your babies." People take a lot of effort shooting and fall in love with their footage. Sometimes an editor can help cut the "wheat from the chaff."

Oh boy! This track has produced some of the most memorable moments among me & my racing friends. Both Busch races in 2004 come to mind with 3 of us arguing with each other after all our guys wrecked along with Robby Gordon, & with Michael Waltrip being handed a win... Then in the following Busch race, one favorite of 1 friend ran out of fuel giving a top favorite of another friend the win. Then we had "The jaw-drop of the century" after the 2006 Truck race... Literally all 6 of us had our jaws on the floor after that race! The payback of 2008 was also a good one (See the 2008 Michigan Truck race for reference). The craziest non finish moment we ever had was Joe Nemechek's flip where we saw the aftermath, most of us let out a collective "whoa", then freaked out when we saw the 87 & realized it was one of my guys... This track is so unique & so fun. I really wish NASCAR would come back to it!

One of the biggest mistakes made by NASCAR was taking away standalone tracks away from Trucks and Xfinity. I always enjoyed how those schedules were diverse from what Cup ran. Now it's the same copy and paste schedule with a couple of standalone races. Nashville was always fun (even when the series was leech infested) it was one of my favorites at the time. One of my favorite memories was when Ricky Stenhouse flipped down the frontstretch in 2009 or 2010. It sure is sad visiting abandoned or shut down race tracks. I've been to North Wilkesboro many years ago and while it was neat to see a part of NASCAR history, it was also sad to see the place rotting away.... and for nothing. Still could hold local events, or even used as a historical site, but sits there falling apart. Great video Danny, some of your best work yet!

I went here for an NNS (now Xfinity) race sometime in the early 2010’s. It was great! I met Steve Wallace (I think, it was car #66 for sure) and he gave me a lug nut off his car. Pretty sure I still have it. From what I remember it was a great day!

You're right DannyBtalks. I'm from Indiana and I'm a longtime nascar fan. When I heard Nashville SuperSpeedway would have a Cup series date in 2021, I was happy to hear those words, "NASCAR returns to NASHVILLE". I watched the Final races here on ESPN. The First Xfinity Race I ever watched. I hope to go there for my first NASCAR Cup Series race. So thanks DannyBTalks for having made this video. It reminded me of a race I'll never forget. Music City is getting a race. I will be glad.

I have been in hiatus with nascar for several years now and just starting to come back to start watching again and Wow, this tells me how much I lost in touch with the sport and their other series. I wasn't aware Nashville closed down! This really sucks and sad to see. Those guitars that legendary artist (rip) Sam Bass made were awesome pieces that made winning the races there unique. I have to say you did a great job with the info! Keep up the good work. Perhaps down the road you can do the rise and TOTAL failure of Chicago Motor Speedway. That track right there was a joke in itself. Since I lived in the Chicagoland area, I saw trouble happening even before they broke ground with this track...

Being from the middle TN area, Nashville was my live first NASCAR race. The 2005 truck race was an instant classic, looked like it was going to storm all day until right at the end, and a great battle with Bodine and Skinner, which ultimately led to my favorite driver at the time, Johnny Benson, winning the race. Saw him win again in 08 and Carl Edwards dominate two June/July Busch/NW races in 06 and the final race in 2011. Personally, I think if the track's concrete aged as well as Dover like they thought it would, we could be talking future in the sport. It ended up being one groove til the end though. With NASCAR talking about coming back, this track is 100% a missed opportunity being closed. It has newer facilities than most tracks being discussed about adding to the schedule, and ample parking without being smushed in a metro area like the fairgrounds, as much as I love the fairgrounds. It needed to have a different surface to have more passing, especially at the end in 2010/11.

It's amazing how many memorable moments this track created over a relatively short time in operation. Yet, it went out with a whimper instead of a bang. I hope that NASCAR does end up returning to Nashville in some way, shape or form at some point. At this point, with all the hype and seemingly all the effort that has gone into it, it would probably be seen as a pretty big bust if they didn't. Also, I loved the intro, dude. It dragged on a bit long, but it really helps to soak in how special the track was.

I'm from Nashville and grew up watching the Fairground races - met countless drivers and country music stars there. The Superspeedway was amazing. Fast, fan-friendly, cheap tickets, Indy and NASCAR. In my view, the problem was advertising. I could go to a race and know it was going on - but never see an ad or commercial for the race weekend on local media. I'm a NASCAR journalist so I knew a race weekend was coming. But if I asked friends, family etc - nobody had a clue NASCAR was coming to town. Plus, the schedule was always on a holiday weekend where the Cup Series was off. So, MRN radio hosts would talk for a week about "NASCAR" being off... while the other NASCAR Series or Indy or ARCA was racing there. A great place for racing - I loved covering races there and working on some of my racing books at the track.

I miss track days on my motorcycle at Nashville Superspeedway. It wasn't a particularly great track to ride like a Barber, but screaming down the front stretch on the banking at 150mph+ on my 600rr was an out of this world feeling. Plus we got to use the garages there, so the facilities were 1st class for track days.

I know IndyCar isn't your expertise, so I have to say a couple of the name pronunciations admittedly made me laugh, so I'll help: Buddy Lasier's name is pronounced "Buddy La-zeer" (Not La-si-err) Gil de Ferran's name is pronounced "Jill Dii-fair-ren" (Not Gille Day Fur-raan... which was totally hilarious to me)
